jonty  said about 5 years ago  or at  3:47PM on Friday, October 13 2006 in events

is he any good? brilliant? should i go see him at the spiegel?

all i've of him so far is a beatles cover, pretty snazzy.

what are some good tracks or an album to check out?

BurtBacharach  said about 5 years ago:

check out Soft Boys (his first band) first....

voidster  said about 5 years ago:

Go and see him

Buy the Soft Boys Can of Bees, Invisible Hits and Underwater Moonlight

he has a lot of solo stuff...try I often dream of trains or uncorrected personality traits (this is a good compo)

go and see him and ask him to do 8 miles high, dominoes or astronomy domine

he's fucking fab

I am so excited Burt.

jonty  said about 5 years ago:

will do when i get home.

just listening to random songs now, i like his voice. very english.

now to find someone to accompany me... although i should know better than to blow all my (minimal) funds on gigs. stupid long overdue freelance pay cheque.

voidster  said about 5 years ago:

i wish he was coming to brisbane...i had to give my ticket for the sydney show away because i am bloody stuck up here

i have seen him a few times over the years but am annoyed at missing him this time round

blow that money on a ticket jonty - it will be well worth it

BurtBacharach  said about 5 years ago:

...me too will.

ask him to do Visions of Johanna too.

jonty  said about 5 years ago:

ok i'm pretty excited about this now. thanks!

williammiller  said about 5 years ago:

And his band will be very good. It's the 3 best guys from the Minus 5.

thenewmeatloaf  said about 5 years ago:

Especially for Voidy, here's the set list from the Adelaide show (thanks Mike):

If you were a priest
Sally was a legend
Ole! Tarantula
Queen of eyes
Adventure rocket ship
NY Doll
I often dream of trains
Vibrating
Bird's head
????
Beautiful queen
Somewhere apart
Creeped out
Madonna of the wasps
(A man's gotta know his limitations) Briggs
Driving aloud (radio storm)
[short break, encore]
Oh shit! [Minus 5]
Cigarettes, coffee & booze [Minus 5]
Give it to the Soft Boys
Acid bird
Eight miles high
I wanna destroy you

Free gig tomorrow lunchtime in melbourne.

can someone please record this and post it to Dime? thx.

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

Melbourne Uni:

Robyn Hitchcock and The Minus 3 + BBQ
Live music: 1–2pm, Tuesday 17 October, North Court, Union House. Cult legend Robyn Hitchcock has worked with the likes of Gillian Welch, while Scott McCaughey (leader of The Minus 3) plays on REM’s albums and has collaborated with Wilco. If you haven't worked it out already, this will be a five-star gig.

questionmark  said about 5 years ago:

insanely jealous

thenewmeatloaf  said about 5 years ago:

ah, the unknown song on the setlist was Flesh Number One (Beatle Dennis)

and there's a recording of an acoustic show they did in Tokyo last week up on Dime, and the Minus 5 played Reigning Sound's Timebomb Highschool! Fark, what I wouldn't have given to see that! They also played on a harbour cruise with Glenn Tilbrook......sorry, I'm salivating.

williammiller  said about 5 years ago:

exciting. cannot wait

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

so, err, today, 1pm, free, melbourne uni.

anyone going?

temporarybenbutler  said about 5 years ago:

I'll see you there.

likewise! i'm now extra angry at the dude who smashed my car last week, as i would have hung around and harassed them after the show...

he was quite hypnotic.. i wish i could look that cool looking that grumpy.

russiancaravan  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah, I was totally exhausted and could barely keep my eyes open during the encore or the drive home but once I was tucked up in bed I regretted not sticking around.

hyperfuzz  said about 3 years ago:

that's probably why he was grumpy... he saw you gazing at him through his long silver locks and got excited, but then saw you yawning and knew that you wouldn't be sticking around after the show...

...or maybe he just looks like that. this is as close as he comes to smiling.

russiancaravan  said about 3 years ago:

Hahaha! My favourite is his smirk during R.E.M's performance of 'Happy Furry Monsters' on Sesame Street. He still can't bring himself to go for the grin.

hyperfuzz  said about 3 years ago:

that clip is so sad... stipe is reaching out to the monsters to be happy, but who is reaching out to peter?

Fielding Mellish  said about 3 years ago:

I Chickened out on the Peter Buck Meeting.

Kez  said about 3 years ago:

I LOVE Robyn. I was standing behind a couple who kept touching their heads together in front of me (chatting or just nuzzling or something) which blocked my view every couple of seconds and was VERY annoying, so I moved to a different spot where unfortunately I couldn't keep a constant eye on Peter or Bill. But I love Robyn and he's the most important to see.

Fielding Mellish  said about 3 years ago:

Yeah, but He wasnt in REM.

hyperfuzz  said about 3 years ago:

i think he might have been in ministry though.

thenewmeatloaf  said about 3 years ago:

Clips from Corner show up here

more to come, apparently.

hyperfuzz  said about 2 years ago:

''i often dream of trains'' is so fucking good.

Fielding Mellish  said about 2 years ago:

That's correct.
