Podcasts: The Verdict

the power of 666  said about 5 years ago  or at  12:42PM on Monday, June 26 2006 in industry

When I first started hearing about Podcasts, I thought they were a gimmick destined for the forgotten tech bin of the freedom of info via technology. It was going to be all kids yelling into mic's to hear their own voice, which is mainly is. I think getting them into itunes has legitimised them for alot of people outside of the nerdier groups, but but have they become a part of your entertainment/info routine?

Wow, look at my boringly legit Monday topic!

i really want to find some podcasts of literary types reading classics. do they exist?

temporarybenbutler  said about 5 years ago:

Yes, I listen to the BBC World Service via podcast. They do a great 15-minute news/current affairs roundup called World Service Select.

I think it's numbers, not size that matters. 30 trillion tits in a bathtub.

Danny Bos  said about 5 years ago:

A good intro and easy to follow guide to podcasting is available here. I have a new respect for the technology.

Stuff You Should Know

In Our Time

Both very interesting and educational.

nyx  said about 8 months ago:

I listen to a podcast called ''The History of Rome'' almost exclusively to put me to sleep because the guy who narrates it has such a steady, soothing voice. I wonder if I am absorbing Roman history in my sleep.

Probably not.

Now THATs what I call a verdict!

temporarybenbutler  said about 8 months ago:

I listened that one with Patience from the Grates earlier this morning based on the recommendation of m&n.

Thanks for nothing, internet message board. It was all the worst, most self-indulgent parts of community radio crammed into one pathetic package.

At one stage Patience and the alleged comedian co-host spent five minutes talking about how much KFC they eat.

I stopped listening shortly thereafter.

SPOD  said about 8 months ago:

I think it's high time you went Permanent.

anonymous  said about 8 months ago:

I've never listened to a pod cast, are they like radio without the cool things like ads for franks tiles to break up the monotony?

temporarybenbutler  said about 8 months ago:

Frank Walker, National Tiiiiiles.

anonymous  said about 8 months ago:

maybe should just do a podcast of ads

''hello hello!''

gabbo  said about 8 months ago:

i lost all my podcasts when i moved my itunes media folder. where'd they go? now i just listen to old ones i skipped because they were out of date. did you know America now has a black President?

Lozenge  said about 8 months ago:

Podcasts seem kinda dated already no? I guess they're useful, and entertaining but somehow the format seems dead in the water. What's next?

Lozenge  said about 8 months ago:

I prolly should just listen to better podcasts.

untold/animals  said about 8 months ago:

Paper Radio — Radiolab-inspired production of Australian/New Zealand stories and non-fic.
