Anyone here equipped with any info or insight on USA visas. I'm thinking of heading over there to further pursue my musical career.
Any advice appreciated - anecdotal or not
cheers
performers need to be
a) notable b) have booked gigs
that philtripp guy was really good at this sort of advice. he doesn't post here anymore though.
musical career?
yeah phil's got great advice, check the latest issue of the AMID there's ten or so pages up the back with Phil's advice on how to succeed in the music biz
but right now i'm looking for USA visa advice. i wanna stay for a while
and i'm not noteable and i dont have any gigs booked
drug or assault convictions are frowned upon apparently.

haha ''succeed in the music biz''
lucky i don't have any convictions
your not notable, you have no gigs booked and on top of that you have no convictions, geez eastside, you better get yourself busy mate.
There is a green card lottery that you can enter. Google it...
Hetroasfuck won a green card but didn't end up going.
even DUI can be a problem
you're a wise man crackwhore, ever considered a career in clinical psychology????
i always appreciate your advice
we really need to catch up and i'll fill you in devo
thirsty??
ok so DUI is a problem it seems. can anyone answer this - i've got a drink driving charge from a few years back and the website 'advises' that a visa be applied for. this would ordinarily just be a transit visa as we've got an 18 hour stopover at LAX. i could call and get charged $11 dollars or $2.75 a minute to get an answer that should be free. i'm not going to take any chances with them but just want to get the facts straight. do i really need to fork out $150 and go for an interview for a stopover because i have a drink driving charge?
it's 6:15pm in LA now.
cool ta. i'll set my watch. but i'm talkign about december
that's Ok. I wear two watch's. 1 is my melbourne watch and my other is my LA watch. If you need a time check, just ask!
this non-profit place does US visa applications for musicians:
www.tamizdat.org matthew@tamizdat.org
you can go on a tourist visa and not bring any instruments across the border, then just buy/hire them over there which might be cheaper than a visa.
One question which would be relevant for you Lordsnot is whether the questions/info required for working visas are required for tourist/stop-over visas (I have no idea, but presumably someone would know).

cheers trafficsounds. yeah i'd been also talking to someone who'd actually gone to and from the states a few times after having blown 0.13 and gone to court etc and never had a problem. i was just being safe, i'm not gonna mess with any chance of getting slapped in leg irons. travelling with a colombian as well :)
actually that's not true, but i did get it wrong. they will ask you if you've had ANY kind of convictions and the only thing that is ok is 1 DUI. if you've had more than that, you have to always apply for a visa.
jesus h... really? that's printed absolutely nowhere that i've seen and i've read as much as i could on the official sites. it also doesn't mention or differentiate the lesser traffic offence type of dui.
but are you sure you're taking that into account? the AFP has just told me that with my offence i don't need a visa because it won't appear on a police check as a criminal charge.
''The same information is available by telephone or fax, but charges apply. All prices below are quoted in Australian dollars.

You can request an information packet to be delivered by post, at a cost of $5.45.

Like fuck I'm giving you one cent cunts!!
They really aren't going to like my police record though.
yeah unless you have some guranteed work over here via a sponsorship or an immediate relative who is american, it is very difficult to get here.
that is without the police record too.
If I didn't have the police record I wouldn't need the visa...
That said my mothers boyfriend is a card holding republican donate, surely he can line me up with some institute or crap if need be.
yeah i gave them 1,100c for fuck all clarity. i got my good information from the federal police for nada. call them about it. they should be able to sort you out.
Sounds a plan. Failing that maybe I can get Polvo to sponsor me.
Had an interesting talk to people last night re US working visas. Shall be looking into it in the coming weeks.
I'm goin' back to Cali, Cali, Cali ...
If someone can give me info about how to stay in the USA for longer than 3 months at a time, I would really appreciate it. Can you just go to europe for a week and then fly back, or is it like the Shengan agreement in Europe (you have to go away for 3 months before you are allowed back for another 3)???
how do you find out if you've got a criminal record? i was supposed to go to court but didn't show up.
also can you get three visas? i was told the other day no you can't. I've got au and eu(uk) but i also want us
get a police check done. Do you mean 3 passports??

Ive just crossed into canada and then gone back.
I gotta get meself a green card I think.
Yeah you can do it a maximum of three times in any calender year apparently. But on the second they start to get cagey over here and I have heard that many have been rejected coming back here for their third visit.
I reckon you could do it once no problems though and be here 6 months.
I didn't know you had to leave for 3 whole months before coming back in. Is this true??
For Europe Shengan countries, yes. ie: If you are living in Germany for 3 months you'd need to go to some far eastern european country like Romania for 3 months (out of Shengan) before you could come back to Germany for another 3 months.
That's awesome lowercase. I went to Mexico and back when I was in the states last year and they didn't even stamp my passport coming back so that option is useless, i thought going to Canada and back would be the same and wouldn't effect the initial 3-month visa waiver you were on???
Explanation of Shengen Agreement on Wikipedia for anyone who doesn't know what the hell i'm talking about
I'm not quite sure about canada actually. I know mexico is useless and woudn't be surprised if Canada was the same no you mention it. you can always pop over to london for a week.
yeah flights are pretty damn cheap.. especially from the East Coast.
