Fleet Foxes

hiponion  said about 7 months ago  or at  10:23AM on Sunday, March 30 2008.

This debut album is fantastic. It's been kicking around my playlist for months but it's really getting a good run at the moment, and it's staying in. The ''Sun Giant'' EP is very good, too.

They remind me a lot of Grizzly Bear. Lots of fairly obvious influences, none blatantly or shamelessly ripped off.

yes i love the sun giant e.p, the song mykonos is outstanding

Heard some really good things, heard some very mediocre things.

I think they blatantly and shamelessly rip off Midlake, My Morning Jacket and Grizzly Bear... but it's OK.

The Sun Giant EP is wonderful. Didn't think as much of the album.

Urquhart Bluff  said about 7 months ago:

I have the Sun Giant EP and would say they blatantly and shamelessly rip off David Crosby.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 7 months ago:

I've heard some stuff, not heaps, but so far they've bored the shit out of me.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 7 months ago:

Oh and they totally rip off Bill Cosby.

''You put the spoon in the puddddin'....''

astralwerkor  said about 7 months ago:

Well fuck, if they rip off Bill Cosby I'm totally there.

Urquhart Bluff  said about 7 months ago:

Theooooooo!!!!!

runoutgroove  said about 7 months ago:

I'm really enjoying this. probably my favourite 'new band' for 2008. i reckon they will bore some people but i knid of like that.

hiponion  said about 7 months ago:

some people are bored by pretty much every kind of music.

shaun  said about 7 months ago:

except Chuggo. everybody loves chuggo

true.

Album is pleasant enough. Not sure I agree with the widespread praise it's receiving... maybe it'll take time?

blake3030  said about 5 months ago:

I found that the album only really hit me on the weekend... and i've had it for a while. The EP is still the winner for me though.

losgauchos  said about 5 months ago:

The album is good, really mellow. Band of Horses meets Animal Collective?

blake3030  said about 5 months ago:

I don't hear even a hint of Animal Collective in it.

I'd go more along the lines of BoH meets Grizzly Bear.

tihstar  said about 5 months ago:

I dig this a lot but find myself wondering if MMJ hadn't gone shit whether I'd think this was quite as good.

astralwerkor  said about 5 months ago:

No matter how hard you try you can't...no, wait, thats not it. No matter how hard I try I can't get into this. Too much MMJ meets Grizzly Bear cover band for me.

runoutgroove  said about 5 months ago:

I had a healthy discussion with a young kid the other day about how I don't really like MMJ or BoH but I quite like Fleet Foxes. I'm in love with that EP, particularly the track Mykonos.

I've had a Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, Beach House mix CD in the car for the last couple of months.

blake3030  said about 5 months ago:

That sounds like a good mix cd. I might make one similar.

I'd just like to thank this thread for getting me onto FF, bought tix last week while just bearly into them and now in full-blown love.

I currently have 'Your Protector' on the highest rotation, what a great pampas infused spaghetti-western number.

And doesn't the singer sound heaps like the Reigning Sound dude?!

Not in the slightest.

your protector and blue ridge mountains are songs right up there with my favourite songs of all time.

Heard J Tillman, onion?

He's touring with them in the UK. Sounds alright.

gunshot_glitter  said 8 days ago:

hmm I thought I was over this type of music but now that I am going and I_Ateallyourbees just gave me the album, I am leaning precariously towards liking this band.

hiponion  said 8 days ago:

MichaelDudikoff  said 8 days ago:
