so,
i've just moved down here, met a bunch of cool kids, found some cool little shops & galleries, discovered that the supermarkets are a little cheaper but the restaurants are a little more expensive, learnt that i may never ever want to go to the eastern shore, or go further north than the alley cat.....
any other tips?
cascade vs boags? (i know about the geographical affiliation)
anyone else on here living in hobes?

hobart seems so far away... I'd love to go down there some time soon.
jeepers, that looks like a flash beer.... i'll track one down. thanks for the tip.
well superhero, after living here for two weeks i'd suggest its worth a visit.....ps. houses aren't as cheap as everyone says they are!
Go and see the Muddy Turds = Life Complete
i really liked hobart, i could live there, it seems like a nice big town
Hobart is gorgeous and the market is fab as well on sunday .
just freaks me out that they don't have an alternative cinema:(
No further North than the Alley Cat? Gee, you're really drawing the line pretty close to the action!
The foodstores on the way to Mt Wellington are great - there's a café I can't remember the name of, but they do Mexican eggs and they're totally sublime. Go see a show at the Ferntree Community Centre. Find out where the Native Cats, Peter Escott, Anthony Rochester or Viva Computer are playing next. Take day trips to the many awesome little towns dotted around the entire island - go watch the muttonbirds fly around Swansea at dusk.
Um, that's all I can think of right now. Take photos of the front bar of the Brisbane Hotel.
um.. no alternative cinema? What about the State Cinema in Elizabeth St?
Can you believe this shit? Get fucked Melbs.
thanks for the tips.....
the state cinema seems ok, not a bad selection of films.... cheap night could be a bit cheaper ($11) but its ok.
i'll have to keep an eye out for that fern tree community centre, thanks feral.
went to a cool indie-craft fair yesterday, friendly kids everywhere!
There's a great pizza store in Sandy (?) Bay that I went to when I was there, tucked away in a little corner. Some goodamn good pizza. Called (unsurprisingly) Pizza on Sandy Bay. Oh, and if you ever venture out to the salmon farm out of New Norfolk, can you check for my shoe in one of the ponds? I kicked it in there by mistake and had to sneak out barefoot. The salmon have probably eaten it by now...
so... i think i'm going to turn this into a 'whats happening in Hobart' thread.
hopefully a few hobartians might appreciate it, and maybe a few folks passing through town....
so, last night 'i built a flying machine' was great at the alley cat.....
tonight, Matt McBeath plays the alley cat,
Tuesday night, Off Minor (!) play at peacock theatre in Salamanca.
next week, singlespeed mountainbike racing hits town......
Your better off going to the return of the Dacios at the Brisbane tonight.
raise's hand.
I'll be there on Friday.
Oh yeah. Any good pizza places?
i like to think its at the top of the world =]
What be some cheapo suburbs to dwell in near UTAS?
C'mon, I know a whole bunch of you stripy suit wearing dopey drunks originated from there.. help a prospective resident out, I don't want to end up in fucking Chigwell.
Cheers for the pm's :] Found a few viable options and the info was most useful.

Hellza, you could go to the Taste, but I think you'd probably hate it. I'd probably just go camping, if I had the option.
Postergirl, yay! When?
I'm cycling my way down the west coast the week prior, I have a feeling I'll be well and truly sick of camping by the time I reach Hobart.
Hopefully I'll find a house show somewhere.
Do you know the Winter Palace dudes? I'm sure they either have something planned or know of someone who does.
24-26 Feb Lilo. There is a posse of us and it seems to be growing by the hour!
I know who they are, that's about it. I'm sure I'd have mutual friends, will put the feelers out. Cheers.
Lovely, PG! I'll be sure to say hello if I spy you!
Thinking of setting up camp in knocklofty reserve now, anyone been there?
Yep, we live just down the hill! Tis nice up there. There were a family of tawny frogmouths there a while ago, the babies were cute! Have a poke round the old quarry if you can find a way in.
Sounds swell, the photos I can find exude a lack of exposure necessary for camping delights.
Anyone have an email address for Tommy Gun Records??
Nah but ring em and ask.
Cheers Lilo !

Heading to Hobart in April for a few days. Any accommodation recommendations?
Maybe somewhere in Battery Point... or a log cabin in a forest somewhere?
