Can you suggest some fun/interesting things to do?
We have a week to cover, with not much planned.

grab a cask, head down the local park at around 6.30pm and meet the locals

triptolemus  said about 5 years ago:

There's two things to do, well three I guess in/around Darwin....

  • drink
  • fish
  • look at wilderness

filterfeed  said about 5 years ago:

stalk poprocks96

gunshot_glitter  said about 5 years ago:

the markets!

golden-brown  said about 5 years ago:

where's darwin?

Godzilla  said about 5 years ago:

my dad had a heart attack in Darwin. that was pretty exciting

gabbo  said about 5 years ago:

well, i think i could handle all of those activities.
and i do like goon...

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 5 years ago:

go for a swim in the beach

i dare ya

gabbo  said about 5 years ago:

oh, why can't you swim?

horse  said about 5 years ago:

If you brave the clubs on Friday night you will usually see tits, flashing is a Darwinian institution.

Kristy  said about 5 years ago:

i shot a girl the other day who told me girls were making 10,000 bucks in two weeks for doing topless barmaid work up there, go do that.

versionsporadic  said about 5 years ago:

the museum is surprisingly good, the 'cyclone experience' section is amazing

horse  said about 5 years ago:

K: is that a little bit embellished? surely.

sister  said about 5 years ago:

i went for a swim at Gunn Beach back in 1994.

There's a few nice local parks.

Night markets are good.

Kristy  said about 5 years ago:

apparently they got paid 3000 in wages and then made a further 7000 in tips and doing shows. This girl is a seasoned professional though and i doubt she would lie, but she does do that for a living so i would imagine that her name itself would be a selling point.

gabbo  said about 5 years ago:

my boobs probably aren't that conducive to tipping.
plus i'm a guy.

also, should i bring all my wife-beater singlets?

can you swim along the coast elsewhere though?

ladyh  said about 5 years ago:

i got very drunk and trashed a hotel room....you could do that

sister  said about 5 years ago:

we went for about 10 days, stayed with old friends, smoked lots of pot and drove around town.
played cards.

gabbo  said about 5 years ago:

ladyh, i will definately do that.

anyone go on any adventures (to the nat parks)?

gawd I love this place... but I need to remember to STAY HYDRATED! Nearly fainting at 5pm is not coolll

outoftheaircrash  said about 1 year ago:

I'm here for a few days off in the middle of a tour. We went and had noodles tonight and thought that it must have been a town full of people dressing like it was 1999 and being generally awful. And then we walked down to the park and found some nice hippies with swags painted all pretty like and realised that the cool people live ''out in the suburbs''. In short, there's nice people in Darwin, they're just not easy to see.

The End.

PS. We're going to see Perko do Man In Black tomorrow, it was like, $100+ in Melbourne.. It's only $45 here. Bargain!

redlips  said about 1 year ago:

the nice people are in Festival Park (where the swags were) and happy yess (next door to that) at the moment outoftheaircrash. Avoid Mitchell St after dark at all costs.

outoftheaircrash  said about 1 year ago:

Oh yeah? We stepped in there for a minute last night and it was pretty deserted.. Apparently it gets going after 11.30? What you working on redlips?

MATTPHEONIXxoxoxo  said about 1 year ago:

Sneak into the bar on top of melaleuchas hostel...3 swimming pools and cheapest beers in Darwin on the roof top.....dont forget to go to TOT either (tits out teusday)

redlips  said about 1 year ago:

yeah, happy yess is a post 11:30pm type place. All the interesting (in a good way) people in Darwin seem to come out of their hidey holes and hang there.

I'm working on this...

MATTPHEONIXxoxoxo  said about 1 year ago:

Has happy yess moved into its new premises yet?

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

yup.

Lilo  said about 3 months ago:

I'm heading up there for 2 weeks in July. Thanks for all the info, redlips and scuz! I haven't been there in 20 years so I'm really looking forward to it. Mr Lilo will be busy at work lighting fires but I plan to spend two weeks by the pool with a beer next to me.

anonymous  said about 3 months ago:

dowp, just before the festival!

oh well, its dry season, will be things to do, go to the wave pool, and eat awesome Asian food.

Lilo  said about 3 months ago:

Mr Lilo will be there for 6 weeks so it doesn't really matter when I go.. when is the festival?

Apparently the best laksa IN THE WORLD is to be found at the night market!

Last time I went to the night market I ate too much fairy floss and threw up.

anonymous  said about 3 months ago:

http://www.darwinfestival.org.au/news/2012-festival-dates-announced

9-26 august.

think locals say the best laksa is at the saturday morning fresh food market at parap.

Lilo  said about 3 months ago:

Hmm, I guess there's nothing for it but to try them all. I might miss the festival, though - the experiment will be over by then, I think. Damn. Hopefully there'll be stuff on anyway!

scuz  said about 3 months ago:

Two weeks in July is guaranteed perfect weather Lilo. I'm jealous as I don't live there anymore. I second the motion that Parap market laksa is the shiz. I also love to order a Pina Colada from the juice joint at the Parap market - no rum in it - but frickin delicious.

Check out Happy Yess upcoming events.

Shame you miss the festival as it's ace.

Lilo  said about 3 months ago:

I could possibly be there for the festival - it really depends how long the work stuff takes. The plan now is to meet in Darwin towards the end of the experiment and spend a week or so there, and then once work is finished head off somewhere else before we go home. I'm thinking Broome or the Atherton Tablelands, somewhere as far away from a Tasmanian winter as possible, anyway!

Are you a regular at the Howard Springs tavern on a Wednesday night, scuz?

scuz  said about 3 months ago:

Not sure that I ever even stepped foot in the Howard Springs tavern Lilo. What takes place there on a Wednesday night? Makes me think of Pee Wee Herman's Big adventure and the story of ''Large Marge'' driving her truck.

lmc  said about 3 months ago:

I'm road tripping up to Darwin next week. Never been before am very excited.

anonymous  said about 3 months ago:

are you there feb 19th? 70th anniversary of the bombing of darwin, will be serious business.

lmc  said about 3 months ago:

Nah heading up slowly going thru Alice. won't get to Darwin till march 1.
