RIP Neil, I'm sure it was fun

Neil Aspinall, who ran the Apple Corps music empire for the Beatles, has died at a hospital in New York, aged 66.

A school friend of Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison, he was regarded by some of the band as the ''fifth Beatle''.

In a joint statement, Sir Paul, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Apple Corps paid tribute to ''Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance''.

Fuck there were a lot of fifth beatles.

outerspacextrapnel  said about 4 years ago:

There were more than five by my count.

Godzilla  said about 4 years ago:

Since he is cited as the person who came up with the idea of the Beatles playing up to the rumours that Paul McCartney died in a car accident, how do we know he really is dead?

outerspacextrapnel  said about 4 years ago:

How do we know McCartney's (music) career is dead?

russiancaravan  said about 4 years ago:

Other 'fifth' Beatles:

Stuart Sutcliffe, Pete Best, George Martin, Brian Epstein...

Bittervictorian  said about 4 years ago:

Being a ''fifth Beatle'' seems like a more dangerous lifestyle choice than being a chainsmoking daredevil...

monkeyman  said about 4 years ago:

Wasn't he overseeing the remastering of the catalouge?

Will we ever get decent sound on one of the greatest collection of recorded works in history?

monkeyman  said about 4 years ago:

Was watching ''Anthology'' last night and they refered to that NYC DJ who helped them alot as 'The fifth Beatle' too.

Aspinal is all over that series too.

hillsonghoods  said about 4 years ago:

monkeyman, the catalogue is reportedly remastered and ready to go, presumably they're just waiting for the right marketing opportunity to run with it...

hillsonghoods  said about 4 years ago:

but yes, RIP.

Dan_Crad  said about 4 years ago:

Re-mastered vinyal as well?

charlesincharge  said about 4 years ago:

its for a Beatles version of Guitar Hero (uh, strum strum strum?)

speaking of the Beatles version of Guitar Hero, if they had to play Paul's walking bass and sing at the same time, that'd be cool.. but c'mon.. Beatles songs.. if its hard you just give it to Eric Clapton to play for you.

Dan_Crad  said about 4 years ago:

That's VINYL, btw...

hillsonghoods  said about 4 years ago:

george only gave that one solo to clapton to try and get john and paul to give a shit about the song.

medicineman  said about 4 years ago:

ah RIP. he managed to be one of the few people who could broker and agreement betwen feuding factions.

outerspacextrapnel  said about 4 years ago:

Eric Clapton, another fifth Beatle.

Psyclops  said about 4 years ago:

Wasn't Derek Taylor a fifth Beatle as well?

outerspacextrapnel  said about 4 years ago:

birdshit  said about 4 years ago:

midnight_caller  said about 4 years ago:

midnight_caller  said about 4 years ago:

It seemes everyone associated with the Beatles was the 5th fucking Beatle.

losgauchos  said about 4 years ago:

Well we still have the 2nd (Paul) and the 4th (Ringo) Beatles with us.

hillsonghoods  said about 4 years ago:

Geoff Emerick has some claim to being the fifth Beatle. Norman Smith too.

Godzilla  said about 4 years ago:

Apu form the Simpsons was also once referred to as the fifth beatle

Barman  said about 4 years ago:

Presumably the bubbling sound of water in a glass pipe...?

Godzilla  said about 4 years ago:

that's beatle that rhymes with Seattle

Fielding Mellish  said about 4 years ago:

That must be why he stood down from apple a few months ago.

My favourite 5th Beatle is Clarence Brown.

RIP Neil. He had the best memory, and he got shit done.

Everyone's forgotten Klaus Voorman!
