Laneway Festival Announcement

blake3030  said about 5 years ago  or at  5:12PM on Saturday, October 7 2006 in music

Featuring stellar acts from all over the globe, including two acts from London, NYC and Sweden, one from Ireland and another from Glasgow the forthcoming line-up announcement will make the 2007 St Jeromes Laneway Festival the most hotly-anticipated event on the discerning music-lover's calendar since...well, since the 2006 St Jeromes Laneway Festival. Add us to your list for a line up announcement and all the juicy details on Friday, 20 October 2006 from 10am.

What do ya reckon the acts are?

The Knife/Peter, Bjorn and John/Jens Lekman/Dungen/Lo Fi Fnk from Sweden. Surely it'll be two of those.

Camera Obscura make a lot of sense for the Glasgow one.

Who from Ireland? La Rocca? Hmmm.

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

I know who the Irish act is.
But they swore me to sssshhh!

Warsaw  said about 5 years ago:

nyc... lightning bolt?

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

Swedish acts?
I'd wager it'd include The Shout Out Louds and I'm From Barcelona...

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

I hope you're wrong HEB

Plus I don't know if this is the kind of festival that would have the money to spend on a relatively unknown band with 20+ members like I'm From Barcelona.

I reckon Peter, Bjorn & John and maybe The Knife.

new york? the rapture is one of em

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

I wondered if Lily Allen was too big to be one of the London acts.....

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

She's spending next 6 months in da USA

anonymous  said about 5 years ago:

bah, no mention of fixing the fecking location.

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

Or at least get a higher stage, so that more than the first 10 rows can actually see who's performing.
And not put the stage under the overhang - stoopid

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

I wonder if they had much feedback about the stage/location?

Because they could really do a lot better.

asbestos  said about 5 years ago:

Please let it be The Knife over I'm from freaking Barcelona.
Anyways, I'm only doing sideshows after last year's foul, overcrowded, smelly debacle.

VoxFuzz  said about 5 years ago:

Lilly Allen is on BDO, Blake.

JScales  said about 5 years ago:

please let it be The Knife. Camera Obscura would be nice, as would The Rapture. I'm looking forward to this announcement.

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

Art Brut!

Come on!

muscles  said about 5 years ago:

it won't be the knife, they hardly play live

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

But muscles, they did mention on radio that they would be coming out here for a summer festival a while back.......

Who knows if it will actually eventuate.

after slagging it in the above post, i'm pleased to report that laneway in perth was awesome. probably one of the best festivals i've been to. not too many shirtless people, if you were crushed they were no disgusting smells and it was so easy to get between stages. stereolab were brilliant and really fuckin' LOUD, spiral was drunk and fun and the hold steady were impressive.

Hazard_Man  said about 2 years ago:

Hehe, I had a feeling they'd spare no expense at making sure this one would go off without a hitch.

redlips  said about 2 years ago:

I was surprised to walk through the sydney site and notice no bump in activity at all yeasterday afternoon - these kids must work fast!

Hazard_Man  said about 2 years ago:

I guess its just fences, PAs and duct tape, which are prob all inside the Basement waiting to be dragged out.

Prob enough volunteers to do one job each to earn their entry.

redlips  said about 2 years ago:

they have to build 2 stages though.

Gbus  said about 2 years ago:

Perth Lane was awesome, great site, low dickhead factor, perfect weather and great music!

mongoloid_dave  said about 2 years ago:

Agreed - Perth was fantastic

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

sydney wasn't a disaster by any measure.

whatwhat  said about 2 years ago:

adelaide was great.

the hold steady were superb.

redlips  said about 2 years ago:

I think that EVERY festival should be configured so that you can sit watching the cricket and listening to stereolab at the same time.

dogsvscats  said about 2 years ago:

adelaide was really nice. easiest festival i've ever been to

NakedApe  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah perth was tops, I've never found it that easy to get a drink at a festival ever, and $6 pints! Easy to move around, sound was good etc etc. Hold steady were great, and I was smashed by the end. a perfect day!

kazpatafta  said about 2 years ago:

I thought the organisation, whilst still evidently a fair bit better than Melbourne's, was pretty poor yesterday. It's outgrown that site. No where near enough toilets, really poor sound unless you were real close for most bands on the Reiby Place and Park Stages. If it wasn't for the Drones absolutely fucken killing it (despite the best intentions of off-their-face punters purely at the festival for Girl Talk to ruin my enjoyment) and some good sets by Buraka, Daedelus and Spiral Stairs I'd have come away feeling totally ripped off and I only paid $60.

devines  said about 2 years ago:

i agree about the sound in syd, but i thought the whole thing was suprisingly good. maybe it was just i had such low expectations after hearing about the melb show...

there did seem to be a lot of drunk ppl there for girltalk though, also i saw australian flag shorts more than once. this is not the BDO people!

can crusherman  said about 2 years ago:

Sydney laneway was pretty good despite the over-capacity. Drones absolutely killed it. Reatard was good. Jack Ladder was awesome (bird is the word). The Hold Steady converted me. The girl talk crowd was heaps shit.

mushymouth  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah, the queues were nuts, although they did move pretty fast considering how long they were. Service from the bar was quick though, I dunno about the food stalls. And yeah, the girl talk crowd seemed a bit aggro, although maybe that's just me getting old. We ended up standing up the back somewhere.

ONE OF US
ONE OF US

(always wanted to do that)

astralwerkor  said about 2 years ago:

Perth was good. No Age and El Guincho were stand outs for me. Sound was a bit poor at stages, but it was cool regardless. Buraka bored me, thought they would be much better; Drones were a little meh, better in a smaller setting I thought; Born Ruffians were ok too.

choden  said about 2 years ago:

unfortunately the EPA were standing at the sound desks all day keeping the levels right down.

Ticket holders' lockout sparks festival backlash

Crowds enjoy the atmosphere at St. Jereome's Laneway Festival, but hundreds of ticket holders weren't so happy.

Annie Stevens
February 11, 2009

THE Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is looking into claims that organisers of the St Jerome's Laneway Festival misled ticket holders.

At the Melbourne leg of the national touring festival on February 1, hundreds of people were refused entry to an enclosed area despite having paid up to $100 for tickets that were supposedly valid for access to all performances on two main stages and four smaller ones.

Around 7.30pm, access to the smaller Little Lonsdale Stage, which played host to US DJ Girl Talk and local band Architecture in Helsinki, was restricted for ''safety reasons'', even though the event was not sold out.

Organisers have laid the blame for the confusion on the ''reckless'' behaviour of some attendees and a last-minute problem that resulted in reduced capacity and the cordoning off of the area.

Complainants to the ACCC allege that their tickets did not state that there would be limited access.

A spokesman from the ACCC said the commission was seeking to understand the circumstances surrounding the festival and would be raising the problems with the festival organisers.

In the aftermath of the debacle, a Facebook group called ''Cheated by St Jerome's Laneway Festival 2009 — I want a refund'' has been agitating for action.

The group has 766 members, and has provided links to the ACCC and Consumer Affairs Victoria websites.

Those who complained directly to the festival have been promised a personal phone call from directors Jerome Borazio and Danny Rogers.

''Danny and I have read every single complaint,'' Mr Borazio told The Age. ''We care about what has been said and we're looking at the reality of what we can do to restore faith in the festival. We're devastated.''

But Melbourne primary school teacher Ben Coady, who last week filed a complaint to the ACCC, doesn't believe a phone call is going to help. He is not optimistic about receiving any kind of refund, although he is glad that action has been taken against the festival.

''It was a really disappointing day,'' he said. ''I never want to go again.''
