Yeah, go ahead and laugh...but where would your band be without a beat maaaan!?
Anyway, all this endless perving on geetars and pedals and shit. Let's talk drums.
HOTT!

I used to have a 1964 Ludwig white mother of pearl 4 piece kit. I foolishly sold it about 4 years ago. I just bought a 60's aqua blue sparkle Pearl kit from this drum dealer in Doncaster called "Drum Palace". The guy's got his whole house filled with really cool second hand kits.
I'm buying a cowbell on the weekend, what's the best drum shop in Melbourne?

hey ubu, I think that's where we bought young mr brown's drum kit last year.
that fella with the long hair? he's pretty cool I reckon.
Yeah, Andrew? Real cool whimsical old fella. I think it used to be called "Moby Dick's Drums".
Holy fuck!
No drummers?
It's ok, don't embarrassed.
hi ubu.
i really like the guys at drummers paradise in richmond. lately though i've been going to that other place on high street.
can't remember the name of it right now. sorry.
how is your playing going?
drumtek?
i love paying other people's drums.
interesting, that andrew guy in doncaster... i bought some cymbals off him. but he had to rush out and the guy working there was giving him major shit when he was gone - "doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about", "is a fucking retard", "thinks he's john bonham" and so on. haha.
i love textchimp's kit. it is bloody rad to play. heaps funner than mine and better sounding cymbals.
yep, drumtek is the one... thanks anok.
when are you going to show me some moves anok?
Hi svelteslacks.
High Street...Revolve?
The drumming is coming along pretty good. It's weird, since having that 7 year break, I find my drumming really different from before. I reckon the break was really good, get you out of repeating patterns that you get used to.
How's the band going? When are you going to do a show?
had a go on ando's the day. tried pumping out some blast beats.
It was just white noise.
I reckon its in me though
No big words people, lets not leave the drummers out
Ubu, you idiot!
Those kits are museum pieces!
It must have sounded outstanding!
I got a Ludwig Black Beauty. I'll never part from it.
i have no moves, only bad habits
ooga booga
I know ThickPassage, a bloody idiot even.
K Series cymbals and hihat, original Ludwig Speedking kick pedal, Ludwig Supraphonic 14 x 5 inch Snare.
Fuck it makes me sad.
Also sold a 1972 birch Gretsch kit. 14" tom, 16" & 18" floor toms, 24" bass drum, wooden 14" x 8" Gretsch snare.
The Pearl kit sounds great though. All the shells are basically Ludwig ones.
AND a Gretsch 72?
Dude....
Yeah - my "not a genius" alarm is going off like crazy right now...!
I have a Premier early 70s kit. I bought it off this dude who is the drummer for ... Taxiride. Haha. He was nice though.
Anyone checked out Johnny Rabb's "Drumbals"? Hilarious. I liked the drumsticks they made in his name before they went broke though. Anyway, whatever - famous drummers are all fuckknuckles.
band broke up ubu. sad days.
i have 14" K hats, a 16" Custom A Crash and a Paiste 2002 22" power ride, but I'm thinking of getting rid of the paiste in favour of a K crash ride, and another darker crash - maybe 18".
Also getting DW5000 pedal and DW hat stand.. What heads do you guys like? Evans? Remo?
I lurve redheads
hawhaw!

Whoa dude. Maybe you should look at your technique!
Funny. I have one of the worst techniques ever and have never had that issue. The drummer in one of my bands, on the other hand, is always doing it. And he has awful technique. But, mine's even worse.
It's so bad that even though footage of it exists on youtube, I will not post it on here because it really, truly is fucking embarassing.
I also happen to be one of those mad cunts that uses two bass drums.
I wish I had more time for it. It was a good way to warm up for piano or any other instrument. Fucking brilliant if I ever found myself in a shitty mood.
I can't do this. I've tried, but can't. Gotta be at a full size kit. Just isn't the same.
The only piece of advice about playing the drums that has ever really been of any use to me (and my limited usefulness) is one that I overheard somebody else receiving: good drummers can play whatever they're trying to play softly, without hitting very hard.
I know that everyone's idea of 'good' is really different but I think to an extent it's true; if you are comfortable moving around the place and hitting things on time without clutching your sticks mega hard or tensing your arms until you get bad shoulder and back pain, you're probably opening up a few extra possibilities and making it a more natural activity for your body.
Totally agree. Same applies with piano. Tension thru overconcentration can be a killer.
Tho, that isn't my problem when drumming. I fuck around with dynamics all the time. What kills me is that I am literally a flat out spastic. It's the same thing with anything I try to do sporting, like footy, running, etc.
I am unco. Hear me roar.
Speaking of 'ideas of good'... to me, it's pretty much 'feel'. Hard to describe, can't be. Just is. Plenty of technical players who have no feel. Then there's drummers who don't know shit, but ride the beat and lock in with the song beautifully regardless of their limitations.
playing softly yet with power is one of the bloody hardest things ya can ever do - mitch mitchell amazes me
as for blood and blisters, sorry that's par for the course, get used to it or get over it - worse thing you can do is not play for a couple of weeks, then the callusses peel off and you're left with baby skin to blister and bleed over again
bash away !
yeah. and besides, callouses on the palms of my hands make me think i'm manly.
Selling 60s pearl kit in Melbourne, pm if you want more details.
really want a drouyn snare (also love micksters kit), is the drouyn factory still there? in the local rag this week they say they're pushing through all these high-rises to be built along stones corner where the factory is/was located..
The Pinheads are looking for a new drummer. No time wasters. Seriously applicants need only apply. PM me.
Serious. YOU''RE FIRED MCFLY!!
READ MY FAX
NEEDLES? FIRED? NOOO... FIRED? NEEDLES? NOOOOO...
McFly you bozo! Hoverboards don't work on water!
If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
So I'm an idiot. I am recording on friday, and thought it would be a good idea to try and tune my drums...now they sound worse than before...
Any tips?
HELP!?
I usually sample the individual hits and re-pitch them and make a midi loop to layer over the original.
But I guess that won't work for your alt-country band.
thanks Tawedog...you're a real help.
If you sample all the individual hits, why did you constantly badger me for beats?!
Try Professor Sound's Drum tuning bible.
It's all about the vibe, man.
lol
