Are there any fans of Hayden out there in M+N land? I bought Elk-Lake Serenade on a whim a year or so ago on the strength of the artwork and a few choice quotes on an ad I saw in a magazine (one of the few times I’ve bought a record without hearing any of it first). At the time I thought it had a few good tracks bit it didn't really grab me, however, I've just revisited it recently and I’m really, really enjoying it.

I have Skyscraper National Park. It's a nice album.
Jerry Seinfeld is a fan apparently.
One thing I really appreciate about that album is the brevity of a lot of the tracks. Sometimes I feel these gruff-voiced folk singers just don’t know when a song’s over and stretch it on and on, making an initially great track a chore to listen to. Note to all folk singer/songwriters; if you’re going to write epics, make sure you have either some seriously brilliant lyrics or a killer harmonica solo.
That's a strange little bit of trivia Jose. Maybe Seinfeld could chuck him a few large so he can come back here and tour again.
I agree on the brevity thing.
those short little upbeat numbers on skyscraper like 'tea pad' and 'all in one move' sure are purdy.
i really like that lengthy atmospheric track 'dynamite walls' too.
haydn?
i have 'everything i long for'. Its good without being great.
It never really grabbed me.
i love him so much. have since his first album came out. his live shows are so amazingly intimate and his voice is warm like a wintery pie. mmm.
i love his lyrics. so simple, but full of stories.
I've been listening to this album a lot over the past few months. It's definitely a grower, and I've grown to love it.
i was just listening to some hayden last night. still ranks as one of my all time favourites.
i just read about a possible tour with The National.
anyone know anything about this?
oooh, i just found the answer in The National thread.
appears to be true in january.
fuck yes that has made my day.
weird. i was listening to whatever album has ''bad as it seems'' on it just last night.
that would be the album 'everything i long for'.
such a great album.
do you like that song 'skates' from it? i think it's about track 7.
this new album is slowly winning me over to be a favourite.
totally in love with the song 'where and when'.
a most wonderful announcement!!!

it's such a shame i'm talking to myself in here. hayden is wonderful. this will be one of my musical highlights of the year.
Two date tour? That's hardly worth the trip! I think I'll try and pop along to the Vanguard. Seeing as you seem to be the only other fan svelte, have any idea what his setlists are like these days?
i love that song about the kids who drown in the car from everything i long for. so sad and so eerie.
this seems a very low profile tour, yes? i only heard about it by regularly checking the NSC website. i have never seen him because i couldn't do that falls tour last time - so excited about this show.
I might attend if I feel like it at the time.
I never got into the album I had, but i'd give him a shot live.
i have to bump this for the sheer joy (mixed with pain) i felt at seeing the little ad for the NSC show next wednesday in inpress
i promised myself i wouldn't try to go to any concerts that week
but this is really quite unmissable
slacks - what do you reckon? will it be a late show?
you must come along crackers.
i don't reckon it will go too late. there is one support and a door time of 8. i reckon it will be over just after 11ish.
i am so in love with the song 'where and when'.
what the fuck!!
he's playing sydney next week!
wets pants
good news huh.
yes
i still kick myself about not seeing him at the empress a few years ago :(
hey sveltes do you know the real name of the bonus track on the australian elk-lake serenade?
it's about this girl he likes who's in the audience and he tells her to come on tour with him or he won't play the town again
i assume it's a song from an earlier album or something, it's way too good to be a throwaway track
nope. sorry. hope he was talking about me though.
i think i know the song. my friend in canada was telling me about it. saying Hayden wrote it about this girl he saw in Melbourne once, he said her slacks were svelte or something? i can't recall exactly.
hope that helps, andyr.
what a good man.
are you going to come to this miles? i say you really should.
i say i probably will. i probably will.
that would be an excellent decision.
this is tomorrow night.
i am very excited.
tonight!
don't let the weather keep you at home. hayden is perfect for this type of evening.
i can't wait!
oooh. hello lady.
can you come say hello to me?
can i come say hello to you?
no.
you're forbidden from talking to me for the next 20 minutes.
go.
ken leee
libidiba douchooo.
i think we should leave our injokes in the office and get back to hayden talk.
yes! i'm flying solo... i will need to say hello
excellent :)
gig of the decade for me.
what an amazing list of songs. such a fan's set.
if you live in sydney and like this man, do not miss out!!!
is he coming to brisbane? i was completely unaware of this tour????!!!!
he played in brisbane on tuesday night.
you missed him sorry :(
:( :( :( :( :( :( :(
i really have to keep up with this shit a bit more. full time work = me slack with gig looking upping.
i don't think the brisbane show was talked about very much. i had only heard of the sydney and melbourne one.
he will be back later in the year with full band, so you haven't missed out for long.
huzzah!
i can count on you for good warm news sveltes. :D
if i can make you feel slightly bummed though, he played such an amazing set - heaps of stuff off every album.
oh, i feel slightly bummed not even knowing he was here. :( superlame.
jump on a plane to sydney tonight! you know he's worth it.
i wish i could. :(
so lame. i wasn't doing anything tuesday night, either. :(
I won't be able to make the Sydney show, but if he's coming back later this year I don't feel quite so bad.
t'was a lovely show last night. i very much enjoyed it. thanks Canada.
Pretty good show in Sydney last night. He played a good cross-section of his stuff and got Holly Throsby up to sing a couple fo songs too.
Very low-key gig though. Even for the Vanguard.
Yes, very low key. Fucking cigarette machine at the Vanguard shit itself and starting returning my money in 50 cent pieces. Ya shoulda seen the looks I was getting from the back row. At least three people found it funny. Thank Christ. Even finishing my drink noisily got me the death stares. But Hayden was good. I was glad he picked up the tempo at the end with some rockin' tunes. Lowercase is very right - low key even by the Vanguard's low key standards. That venue does shit me sometimes though. Fucking expensive to get trashed there. Throbbers done good.
i didn't go :(
oops
i meant to, but i also meant not to because i'm a bit tired this week
still, i'm sorry i missed it
