lemon overload

juicenewton*  said about 5 years ago  or at  2:36PM on Thursday, September 21 2006 in stupidity

Has anyone noticed the recent lemon plague? I've got so many of the buggers I tried to offer some to the cafe 2 doors down, they said they had too many already.

I'm about to go and make some lemon slice.

the end.

Hah, I made lemon slice with all my leftover lemons too. Try making cordial too, it uses heaps of them.

squeeze them and put them in the ice cube tray, freeze, once frozen put in a plastic bag and take out when needed.

loveisafist  said about 5 years ago:

mmm, lemon slice.

tilljames  said about 5 years ago:

yeah 've got a heap too.
gonna make lemon butter.
anyone got a decent recipe?
its easy as piss, yeah?

tangy_zizzle  said about 5 years ago:

one day there'll be no lemons and folks will look back on this thread in tearful disbelief.

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

why isnt my lemon tree dripping with big yellow lemons?

it has a few little tiny baby green lemons but they dont seem to be progressing to the next level.

when will they grow? WHEN?

september  said about 5 years ago:

i'll take some off your hands, juice.

and lemon butter, i think it's 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 table spoon of sugar and 1 egg to every juice and rind of one lemon. check your high school text 'cookery the australian way.'

cook it on a double saucepan otherwise you'll end up straining curdled lemon butter through a flour sifter and telling people it's the thought that counts.

littlearch  said about 5 years ago:

daisy, get crak to piss on it every day

filterfeed  said about 5 years ago:

...and i'm buying them from supermarket when needed. pah! there are a couple of trees in neighbouring house backyards but i'm too scared to go and pick some. just out of reach.

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

aaah, yes of course........thanks littlerach.

juicenewton*  said about 5 years ago:

lemon slice:
Crunch up 1 pkt marie biscuits. 1 cup coconut. Add the juice of two lemons. Next melt 125gms butter, add to that 1/2 can of condensed milk then add this to the biscuit mixture. put in tin and fridge up. Top with lemon icing (lemon juice, icing sugar, butter & a little hot water)

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

Peter Cundall pees around his lemon trees, says it's good for them.

loveisafist  said about 5 years ago:

yay, thanks juice! xo

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

is piss good for orange trees too?

and is there a point when too much piss on 'em can be bad?

themarshall  said about 5 years ago:

I'll have lemons next season I reckon . Thanks for the tree juice!

fourforward  said about 5 years ago:

dykeville

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

daisy - it possibly has more to do with killing the grass around the tree. Grass sucks up the water and nutrients apparently.

littlearch  said about 5 years ago:

you could perhaps bypass the wee and just pour beer into it?

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

how are your roses themarshall? are they bushing out 'n budding up?

Inactivist  said about 5 years ago:

Daisy, it's a lime tree.

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

well actually inactivist i've been very confused about my two citrus trees...originally i thought the orange tree was a lime tree but now think it's an orange tree.....so maybe the lemon tree IS actually a lime tree?!?!
thats cool....i love limes!

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

do lime trees like to be pissed on???

Inactivist  said about 5 years ago:

All trees like to be pissed on... according to a drunk Crakkk.

shakethecloudsout  said about 5 years ago:

theres only one solution for lemon plagues.... corona's and lots of em.

september  said about 4 years ago:

i picked up a big bag of lemons yesterday. if i had to pay for these lemons i reckon it would have set me back $50.

thenewmeatloaf  said about 4 years ago:

lemon curry?

september  said about 4 years ago:

lemon juice in the morning, it is good for your liver. at least that's what themarshall tells me.

tangy_zizzle  said about 4 years ago:

I'm going to find a lemon tart.

tangy_zizzle  said about 4 years ago:

Found one. Has strawberries on it. Pretty good.

september  said about 4 years ago:

sounds a bit fancy for a lemon tart.

juicenewton*  said about 4 years ago:

I dunno about strawberries on lemon tart- their pouncy sweetness would only ruin the intense lemony goodness I think.

tangy_zizzle  said about 4 years ago:

Lemon custard tart to be precise. From the fancy deli/patisserie down the road. The girl behind the counter complained that the chef wiped his white chocolate-covered hands all over the glass.

nicko_mcbrain  said about 4 years ago:

anyone living in brunny with spare lemons, me and elaine can never get enough. go through 'em right quick. happy to take them off your hands...

juicenewton*  said about 4 years ago:

I have a heap again nicko, but I live wesssssside.

september  said about 4 years ago:

tell me more about the complaining girl please.

nicko_mcbrain  said about 4 years ago:

hmm, i work wesside - the scray of foot. how far west are we talkin' here?

tangy_zizzle  said about 4 years ago:

The complaining girl was cleaning up. I got the feeling she didn't have long to go on her shift. Apparently the chef left white chocolate all over the glass, though I didn't notice. I forced a half-laugh out as she relayed her anecdote to me. On my way out I heard her complain to the chef about his grubby chocolatey hands. I don't think he listened to her.

bexxta  said about 3 years ago:

Anyone have a lemon overload this year? I'll trade honey joys or some other form of baked goods for them.

september  said about 3 years ago:

i have a shit load of figs.

louis  said about 3 years ago:

ooh. i love figs. they're very sexy fruit.

september  said about 3 years ago:

i don't think they're going to be any good this year. they don't seem to be ripening. the birds don't want anything to do with them either.

LoadMyRig  said about 3 years ago:

fuck i wish i saw this before i checked out the million lemons that fell off my tree last week.

i quite like a honey joy...

Kez  said about 1 year ago:

Are the honey joys still on offer? A friend gave me a bag of lemons and I'm a lazy sod in the cooking department. (Having said that, the slice could be OK.)

Kez  said about 1 year ago:

Anyone have any other (easy) (non-egg) recipes that use stuff I have in the cupboard and don't have to leave the house to go to the supermarket for?

Is there any use for kaffir limes besides the leaves in curry?

september  said about 1 year ago:

does your embargo on eggs include the whole egg or just the yolks, kez? got any maker's mark in the cupboard? you could make whiskey sours! we've got a big bag of lemons sitting in the kitchen at the moment. i'll use juicenewton's idiot proof lemon slice recipe up top and turn the rest into cocktails.

Kez  said about 1 year ago:

Any of the egg that's contained in eggshell, Sept, due to a horror primary school camp breakfast incident (crunching on shell in the scrambled), followed by a horror high-school cooking class sponge cake preparation incident (too disgusting to repeat here but one of the girls in the class chucked and I've been emotionally scarred for life as a result, hence the no-eggs cooking policy) (that said, if I can't SEE the eggs and someone else has cooked the item it's usually OK - I'm fond of meringues and pavs - as long as I don't think about it too much).

I'm gonna try the slice with Coles brand shortbread bickis and no coconut (I bought a packet recently to make chocolate crackles but left it at Mum's, and I know if I buy more I'll have two opened unfinished packets instead of just the one).

september  said about 1 year ago:

where do you live, kez? perhaps i can sling you a bag of dessicated coconut. i have two bags. i bought one by accident. what's your address and i will post it to you. just drop it here in this thread.

The_Tupelo_Flash  said about 1 year ago:

hmm... sending bags of dessicated coconut in the mail.

is that code for sendin' smack?

Kez  said about 1 year ago:

Ayeaye, COKEonut... (winks, taps side of nose in a knowing way)

alec m  said about 6 months ago:

i've been smashing lemons because i'm sick and they make me feel amazing. i watched a drunk friend eat a lemon before his eyes went blood red and he threw up all the stuff he was cramming in his mouth

Kez  said about 2 months ago:

I have kaffir lime overload. Who wants to take a bag of the mongrels off my hands gratis? Also leaves available. Melbourne.
