The Dirtbombs thread.

nothroughroad  said about 5 years ago:

what about the zoobombs. remember them. make a thread for them.

gusseting  said about 5 years ago:

jesus - you'd think for such a fine band, that there'd be a fine thread starter...but anyhoo...
i've been hiding under a rock for a few years - obviously, that's when the dirtbombs came to town. there's stories of 'em getting laid locally and so forth...
ultraglide in black is what's cranking...
however...i'm just trying to track down the original "ode to a blackman" from phil lynott with no luck on limewire... is it worth getting?

puretokyo  said about 5 years ago:

awwww'm broke in detroit again

madcans  said about 5 years ago:

they were fucking great at ding dong a few years back.

also, they will be appearing on the 'live at studio 5' cd that i am releasing 16.11.06, it's a cover and it Is AWESOME

nonemoreblack  said about 5 years ago:

top notch on all accounts - that noone went to see them in Sydney at the Gaelic club still gets me mad..

Has there been anything released since the King Khan split? A new record coming out?

Madcans - what's the cover?

*rachel*  said about 5 years ago:

there's a doco out that they feature in, here's the link
it came from detroit
i hope it gets shown here

i will always regret not seeing them at Ding Dong

xia  said about 5 years ago:

they rocked at the tote too. two drummers always works

Lorenzo St Dubois  said about 5 years ago:

The Gories were heaps better though.

spotswood  said about 5 years ago:

I thought Blacktop where just as good as the Gories.

Lorenzo St Dubois  said about 5 years ago:

I thought Blacktop were better than the Dirtbombs, but not quite as good as the Gories. That Blacktop LP really is amazing.

mondotopless  said about 5 years ago:

nmb - -there was a recent tour split 7" with the Black Lips on Cass records. All sold out I'm afraid.

tihstar  said about 5 years ago:

rigid/spotswood - gories were better than blacktop. blacktop were more consistent than the dirtbombs but the dirtbombs had higher highs (though also some pretty low moments).

Lorenzo St Dubois  said about 5 years ago:

I agree tihstar, except for the bit about the Dirtbombs' highs being higher than Blacktop's. Some of the singles perhaps were up there with Blacktop. But there's no denying the runaway genius of the Gories. They were the cat's pajamas.

missy  said about 5 years ago:

I do love this band although, when i listen to that album of covers, i can't help but think they become a little monotenous after awhile.

DaisyB  said about 5 years ago:

if only the gories had wore cute matching colours mick collins could be writing Coke jingles now.

Lorenzo St Dubois  said about 5 years ago:

Indeed. I thought it was interesting Jim Diamond sued for royalties from the WS for his production input, while Mick basically served them their sound on a silver platter.

questionmark  said about 5 years ago:

Are the Demolition Doll Rods still going? They had the best gimmick of all, two hotties and a cross dresser.

spotswood  said about 5 years ago:

Yeah, the Gories are great, I guess it's a bit stupid to compare the bands anyway. I liked the In The Red Blacktop "I Got A Bad Feelin' About This" record than Au Go Go version, not sur why they didn't include all the songs.

Lorenzo St Dubois  said about 5 years ago:

The story with that is that Blacktop recorded a six song 10" for Crypt. Darin Lin Wood from Blacktop also played in Fireworks!, who had an album out on Crypt. Darin had a falling out with the guy who ran the label so the label told 'em to jam it. Then Au-go-go stepped in and decided to add a few songs to the six to flesh it out for an Aussie release. The CD includes everyting, including the B-sides, like "Hot Lips and Swivel Hips". That's a killer song.

THE DIRTBOMBS
Party Store
(In the Red)

this seems good. sound good anyone?

thedropkick  said about 1 year ago:

it's.... different. not sure if I like it yet. it's their most ambitious album, might have gone too far

Pex  said about 1 year ago:

it's their best one yet, same as all of their previous albums, just keep getting better and better. dance music never sounded this good.

Tiger Tiger  said about 1 year ago:

is this record their take of detroit techno music?
heard a track on the radio last night. was alright.

rigid  said about 1 year ago:

It's all covers of early 80s Detroit techno. The one song that's been on the ITR myspace was great.

HeilKitty  said about 1 year ago:

Its not often people take a covers band seriously, but they do do it well.

MissAustralia2003  said about 1 year ago:

only bought 2 songs of their new one - sharivari and cosmic cars. but bought 2 lps by the screws and have been very enjoying them - hate filled classics and shake your monkey

Zac  said about 1 year ago:

New 3LP is sick, really tempted to buy despite limited funds...

SHARI! VARI!

Tiger Tiger  said about 1 year ago:

been really diggin' ''Party Store''. Really not that familiar with the original tunes. need to download a companion album to this with the original tunes. ANyone know if someone has already posted such a compilation on a blog??

Pex  said about 1 year ago:

I've heard Shari Vari, Alleys of Your Mind and Bass in a Bagbin and they're all great! apparently ''Good times'' was a huge hit a few years ago, never heard it...

Zac  said about 1 year ago:

1981: Juan Atkins' Cybotron releases its first single, ''Alleys of Your Mind''
Cybotron - ''Alleys Of Your Mind'' (1981)
Cybotron - ''Cosmic Cars'' (1982)
1982: A Number of Names releases single called ''Shari Vari''
1987: May records ''Strings of Life,'' regarded by many to be Detroit techno's seminal track
1989: Saunderson becomes a British pop star on the back of the single ''Good Life''

prince  said about 1 year ago:

Shari Vari is killer

Pex  said about 1 year ago:
