the rebirth of sound&fury

adamdmills  said about 3 years ago  or at  2:52PM on Wednesday, March 19 2008 in music news

Like some kind of reverse hibernation, we’ve spent the summer slumbering, dreaming of bottomless honeypots and hapless, ripe-for-the-scaring campers. Or something. And now, as we await the imminent arrival of the season’s first frost to our new mountain home, sound&**fury **is stirring. Something in me knew I couldn’t keep this thing on ice permanently. Even as I made the decision to shut up shop last year, my thoughts kept wandering to ’well, if I ever did resurrect the label, here’s what I’d do...’

And here we are, six months out from the death knell, and the era of sound&**fury **mk2 is about to dawn. Here’s what we know so far: no more CD-Rs. Well, maybe a few. But as I always wanted it to, the focus is shifting almost exclusively to vinyl. 7'' vinyl, to be specific.

What we’ve got brewing right now is a series of split 7'' singles that pair local artists with international ones. The idea is to release twelve of these in as many months, available individually or as a subscription. (Subscribers will be treated to extra goodies... as for what, you’ll have to wait and see.)

The list of artists is only half-finished, and is already looking completely amazing: Tarentel, Seaworthy, Library Tapes, Adrian Klumpes, Machinefabriek, Shoeb Ahmad, The North Sea, ii, Antony Milton, Brothers Of The Occult Sisterhood, Zelienople and Heil Spirits have all given our polite request the thumbs up.

I hope to have the first volume of this as-yet-unnamed series ready to go by midwinter, when the weather here will be too intensely cold to allow anything other than curling up by the fire and screenprinting hundreds of sleeves (oh yes, I’ll be keeping the tradition of hand-packaging well and truly alive).

Keep an eye on the MySpazz page and the sound&**fury **website (when it returns) to find out more.

-adm.

PS. Thanks to everybody for all your continued support, encouragement and kind words. To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t do this shit if I thought nobody cared, so your interest is wholeheartedly appreciated.

Wow! Good luck! This sounds awesome.

I'd subscribe all over that.

Ohyeah  said about 3 years ago:

congrats adam!

Pelt and/or Holler  said about 3 years ago:

Nice!!

raven  said about 3 years ago:

I'd be subscriptional to that!

I'm not all that fond of the 7'' format to be honest. They tend to slip all over the record mats @ FBi unless they're well weighted down. But hey, I only buy vinyl because people insist on releasing stuff exclusively on vinyl, and if that's what you want, I guess I'm buying!

shaun  said about 3 years ago:

wow awesome!

I thought Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood were no more? How occultish of them

littlearch  said about 3 years ago:

adamdmills  said about 3 years ago:

just confirmed: my cat is an alien and starving weirdos.

and machinefabriek is doing a collaboration with adrian klumpes instead of a split.

i'm just about falling over myself with excitement here.

fastcanoe  said about 3 years ago:

To be blunt, most improvised music is a directionless mess

my cat is an alien??????????????????????????????????

Shoeb Ahmad????????????????????????????????????????????

Antony Milton????????????????????????????????????????????????

Brothers Of The Occult Sisterhood???????????????????????????????????

Heil Spirits?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Or is it just improvised music that you deem to be unfit?

adamdmills  said about 3 years ago:

most improvised music. not all.

there's a lot of improvised stuff out there that i really enjoy. but then there's a whole lot more that i find meandering and dull.

funnily enough, that's true in all styles of music, fastcanoe. i like a loit of black metal, and hate a lot of it. i hate a lot of indie rock, but my top ten records last year were almost exclusively indie rock. go figure.

fastcanoe  said about 3 years ago:

I understand all to well the simplicity of hating most offerings in any genre, I just find it odd that the bands you've announced are generally purveyors of directionless clatter. Which for me is great as I love the stuff.

yep but its just Seaworthy & M.Rosner. The Mega Ghost Super Cycles are just playing at Mr. Rosner's backing band.

adamdmills  said about 2 years ago:

I just got the TGO29M back from the plant. They look fucking amazing, if I do say so myself (which I just did).

Pelt and/or Holler  said about 2 years ago:

nice feature in Foxy Digitalis!

adamdmills  said about 2 years ago:

S&F goes analogue!

Well, we already kinda were, what with the 7''s and stuff. But now we've gone the whole hog and released a motherfucking tape!

It's called Waverley Cemetery (Sydney), and features a brand new 15 minute piece from Jasper TX, inspired by the words of poet Penelope Joy.

You can hear a sound sample and/or buy yourself a copy here.

whale  said about 2 years ago:

oh, excellent!

adamdmills  said about 2 years ago:

okay, next up is the rest of those fucking passeridae singles. jasper tx / scissor lock is first, then (i think) raven / aaron martin. then, eventually, ii / zelienople, anonymeye / the north sea, brothers of the occult sisterhood / starving weirdos, heil spirits / antony milton, seaworthy / tarentel, shoeb ahmad / library tapes, and eventually thurston moore / castings. exciting times.

raven  said about 2 years ago:

What a fucking awesome lineup that is too! Except that raven bloke.

S&F goes analogue!

Bahaha :)

adamdmills  said about 2 years ago:

just because you're a 21st century digital boy, raven.

kurt  said about 2 years ago:

woooooooo!!!! any info on when we'll see the next 7''?

adamdmills  said about 2 years ago:

i'm saving my pennies right now. i wouldn't like to make any false promises as to when it might surface. but as soon as i have enough cash, that sucker will be right off to the plant.

whale  said about 2 years ago:

i remember when it was due to come out in 'august 2008'! good work gathering the funds for it in the meantime adam.

whale  said about 2 years ago:

currently listening to this amazing jasper tx tape, my desk is shuddering.

kurt  said about 2 years ago:
