I prefer cafe's off the main main st, kinda hidden.
I love Cafe Quince in Clifton Hill, St Ali in South Melbourne & Digitable in Richmond.
I want to go to an ace place I haven't been, for lunch tomorrow.
What's your favourite hidden treasure?

New York Tomato in Richmond can be nice. Gluttony in Smith St also. Flavours Of Lakhoum can be good.
Dench in Scotchmer street, Nth Fitzroy. Their seed bread is more addictive than heroin..
Corner Store Cafe in Scotchmer St is my all time favourite
My mate works there. I love getting bread at the end of the day! But Its weird to go there when he's working
I love both Don Vincenzo and Marios in Brunny St, right next door to each other.
corner store seats 50 ????
dear me
gluttony seemed to have taken a bit of a dive last time i was there, tangy. i hope it was just an off day.
bomb cafe on johnston st makes the best coffee i've had in melbourne, but it's insanely crowded and busy in there so not great for a relaxing lunch or anything. good baguettes too.
APTE in Alphington is tops. Reminds me of Bills in Sydney (Ricotta hot cakes... drool)
yum
Yeah nah....
i don't tend to have a favourite, i flit from one to the other and back.
i love weekend coffee and snacking at sugardough, but it's more of a bakery. tons of places do great breakfast these days.
i never got the popularity of small block though, their menu is tops, but i have always found the service there brusque at best, and rude at worst, thus i give it ...
St. Ali is lovely. New York Tomato is nice, if fucking slow. I gotta throw down for Jerry's on Barkly. By far my favourite cafe. But I'm really liking Yellow Bird on Windsor end of Chapel near Orange.
Green on Sydney Rd, hands down.
i like the catering company in nicholson street near the loony bin
thanks elle-zo, might try that one. Not too far from home
ew, no - massive portions, but average food, i feel. that's one i'd single out in the 'big reputation undeserved' category. so disappointed the few times i've been there.
just my two cents, but.
Small Block in Brunswick make awesome breakfasts.
I also like Arcadia in Gertrude Street, Volumes in Eltham and I really want to go to the tea rooms in Block Arcade. The one with the green velvet wallpaper.
anyone been to mart 130 in albert park thats supposed to rule?
probably not on grand pricks weekend.
also Orange in chapel street windsor
and mojitos in the prahran market and the worst service in the world
what is these merg? from the frenchman
hilarious
cafe 3a, brunswick
Handsome Steve's House of refreshment.
Hands fucken down.
No Soy, No Tea, No skinny.
Go Steve.

I didn't see the bunny! Preethi and I went there on Monday. The Greek beans with Meredith feta were so yummy!
''I once had some toast, or should I say, the toast had me''
Sorry...
Ha, I was about to msg you to suggest the exact same thing, TR! Sunday morning?
Maybe they moved him in out of the cold or something...
''The goddamn barney...''
(Sorry, that will mean nothing to anyone besides TR)
Yeah! Sounds like a plan.
Hahah! Poor goddamn black barney!
Apparently the bunny (whose name is Dorothy) is transgender...
Just had fab fair trade organic coffee in a biodegradable cup from some place on flinders lane near degreaves. Simplicano or something.
Maybe someone else knows what the place is called.
i've had ok coffee at auction rooms, but i've only gone because fandango was already closed in the late arvo. seems like a nice enough, open space though.
one thing i miss from EB is small block. i know i was down on them way back, but they became by default option when i lived on lygon. banana french toast, hotcakes or the summer bfast quickly overtook their hefty eggs benny as my favourites. folks seem to dismiss their service as snobby and inattentive, but they've never done wrong by me.
live close to miss marmalaide on union st. great coffee and some tasty lunch options. their brekky menu aint as tight as i'd like, though.
BRUNSWICK FOR THE WIN!
Only jam on toast.I truly find everything but jam on toast totally lame and not even worth the energy to bitch about.
Heh! OH! I lie!
Oh, yes please on Kensington tips Mrs G. I know pretty much nothing of the area.
I reckon Fandango has still gotta be the go in North Melb but I was mighty impressed by Griggons and Orr (cnr Chetwynd and Queensberry) on Sunday ... coffee was well above average and the food was pretty damn awesome
Fandago is really tough to get into on Saturdays. I'm pretty fond of Hot Poppy just up the road on Errol which does an awesome Haloumi, potato mash and poached egg dish and has pretty decent coffee. Plus they will let you sit there for an hour or so reading the paper.

White Rabbit in Kensington is a cool little place. I've been there once for breakfast and have good memories of it. It's on the road that is opposite the train station.
How rad is that place??!!
I have so been wanting to try it and so will do this weekend! WOO!
I've posted Kensington info in the 2.0 thread, C_S.
I am definitely a Small Block devotee but Sunday was the last straw for me. I don't think I'll be going back for a while especially given that most places now do Corn Fritters which was really their calling card. I'm fed up with being ignored by lazy staff who do nothing to hide their displeasure at being at work.
packed cafe in slow service on a sunday shocker.
It wasn't that busy.
Miss Marmalade in Brunswick was quite good
