paypal

yokota  said about 5 years ago  or at  7:11PM on Tuesday, September 5 2006 in chat

Anyone know if its true that once somebody has paid money into your paypal account, that they are then able to take it back out without your permission/knowledge?

The_Suits  said about 5 years ago:

yeah they can do that.

Lordevilegg  said about 5 years ago:

Yeah it takes a while to transfer too

The_Suits  said about 5 years ago:

there's a scam that i've heard about where an guy did some comping work for a client, emailed him the files, was sent the money then started doing some more work for the guy. As soon as the guy started comping the next set of tracks the client reversed the transaction took back his money and got 2 lots of comping work done for nothing.

Ouch.

yokota  said about 5 years ago:

Fark, is there anyone to safeguard against this?

The_Suits  said about 5 years ago:

as far as i can see, the only way to make sure a transaction is safe, is if you give it to an independant 3rd party. they get the goods, they get the money, they do the swap.

otherwise someone has to trust someone.

So, someone wasn't to impressed with this mob..

fastcanoe  said about 5 years ago:

So new question: Is there any way of cancelling a payment that you've just sent through? I can't find this option anywhere in the menus..

brokenbrastraps  said about 5 years ago:

So when you want people to pay things into your paypal account what info do you have to give them?

Could you safeguard against money being taken out of your account by transferring it straight into your bank account once the money is in there?

katiepotatie  said about 5 years ago:

stoopid question: is there a difference between paypal.com and paypal.com.au?

questionmark  said about 5 years ago:

-your email address. that's all.
-yes.

questionmark  said about 5 years ago:

-no

brokenbrastraps  said about 5 years ago:

Cheers ?

spaceman1  said about 4 years ago:

can someone please tell me how long do e-cheques/payments take to clear?

is it 3 days? 5 days?

I won an item and immediately paid by paypal, also notifying the guy of this. Payment came through after 5 days, though the dude notified me to ebay on the 4th claiming I hadn't paid him.

What the fuck am I supposed to do but wait?

Is this normal?

In any case, payment cleared at his end a week ago now and I still aint seen/heard nothing.

yokota  said about 4 years ago:

I was under the impression that once you sent a payment via paypal the recipient received the amount of money instantly.

In your case did you keep the automated paypal receipt email that you would have received after you made the payment?

spaceman1  said about 4 years ago:

in the two cases i've used paypal, there's been a processing period of about 5 working days similar to cashing a cheque at a bank. I don't know why this is or if the period varies.

I have a transaction number and an statement from paypal confirming that payment was made and received by the seller on 21/1/08.

yokota  said about 4 years ago:

Well considering you have the transaction number, you should be fine if the other person's cries wolf, you can dispute his/her argument.

I have received a refund before from paypal, after not receiving an item I paid for and filed a dispute, which gave me a sense of security when using paypal.

spaceman1  said about 4 years ago:

yeah, well i've contacted them.

I just don't like the idea of cunts giving you bad feedback when you've done the right thing.

If they claim to accept paypal as a payment method, then they have to wait the requisite 3-5 days for the payment to clear before getting upset. Fair's fair.

Godzilla  said about 4 years ago:

when people pay me by paypal, i get an email from paypal within hours. It's only the transfer from paypal into my bank account that takes a few days.

shaun  said about 4 years ago:

so paypal doesn't take visa debit cards? fuck them.

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

that sounds wierd.

paypal will just debit your standard savings account anyway, and you should be able to use your visa debit just like a regular visa for ebay purchases.

so i put in the AUS $, then it looks like there is a 'Currency...(convert?)' option?

It will do the conversion for you. When you choose to 'send money' you'll be given a variety of currency options, and shown a rate. Or should be, anyway.

goingblank  said about 1 year ago:

How far back can one file a claim of having not received goods? Anyone know?

charlesincharge  said about 1 year ago:

Can I use paypal to send money internationally to myself? Should I set up a second account in uk currency or will it allow me to withdraw whatever funds i put into it from one origin to a new destination?

max bulk  said about 1 year ago:

The paypal exchange rate is a massive ripoff. And on the ebay auction page, they used the actual exchange rate to calculate the price of the item in AUD. In reality, I paid about $25 more.

gabbo  said about 8 months ago:

so i got defrauded twice in a day for a total of $210. that amount has been withdrawn from my credit card account.

i was unaware 'fraudsters' could force payments through an account, even if it had no money in it. looks like i'll have to patiently await the grievance process, and then remove my credit card details from it.

steveholt  said about 8 months ago:

How did that happen?

gabbo  said about 8 months ago:

don't know.

just checked my emails and there were two receipts for services i didn't request/receive (helpfully they were for the same amounts), and then another from PayPal saying that my account had been suspended as it looked a lil suspicious. They were correct.

I guess if the fraud-bot only took out one payment, i may not have noticed.

Not sure yet how this happened. I guess a virus stole a password somehow.

Tramdriver  said about 7 months ago:

What is the Paypal refund process like? I paid $41 to record company website (not Ebay), but I think the order may have fucked up. I sent them an email, but considering they didn't reply when I sent them an email enquiry last year I'm not holding my breath. I would be happy for them to send the order, but I'm getting it sent to a parcel forwarding service in the US so it can be combined and sent with others so I don't want them to take long. Perhaps just as well I used Paypal and not my debit card.

yokota  said about 7 months ago:

'Tramdriver' Paypal predominantly favors the buyer in disputed cases. You need to log in, find the transaction record and 'open a case'. An email will be sent to the seller (in your case the record company) and they may respond. If nothing is resolved you can escalate the case to a claim, and unless the seller has some form of proof that they sent the parcel (essentially a registered post i.d receipt) paypal will automatically withdraw the money from the sellers account and refund you the total amount.

There's also expiry dates by when you need to have opened a case and filed a dispute.

Actionralf  said about 7 months ago:

It's not a very large window of time.

Tramdriver  said about 7 months ago:

yokota ... sorry 'yokota' - Thanx heaps. I do wonder how they know that a claim is legit or not. I will give Swishahouse (Ohh... I went there) a week to respond by email and if nothing by then away we go.

Actionralf - It's 45 days- says so in the confirmation email that Paypal sends.

Tramdriver  said about 7 months ago:

Turns out they are sending my stuff- disaster averted (lol).

katiepotatie  said about 5 months ago:

so it can take up to ~5 days for a paypal payment to clear and be available?

i have made payments immediately and got items on the second business day, but is a buyer from poland likely to slow things down a bit?

katiepotatie  said about 5 months ago:

oh - and if im waiting on a payment should it show as 'pending' or something in the interim?

livingincanada  said about 5 months ago:

so it can take up to ~5 days for a paypal payment to clear and be available?

if you mean after transferring funds to your bank account - yes

if you mean you paid someone or they paid you via e-cheque - yes

oh - and if im waiting on a payment should it show as 'pending' or something in the interim?

details of payments (including e-cheque payments) appear immediately in your paypal account. e-cheque come up with a red flag icon next to them showing that the payment is pending but hasn't cleared. If you don't see any details of the payment in your paypal it means they haven't actually paid yet.

either way - the seller (if it's either you or someone you bought something from) should not send the item until you see the icon in the corner of the Transaction Details which says ''OK to ship''

hope that helps kp!

livingincanada  said about 5 months ago:

aka if a buyer says ''I've paid you by paypal'' but you don't see any information in your paypal then either they are bullshitting or they've sent the money to the wrong account.

katiepotatie  said about 5 months ago:

thanks canadia, i had an email from paypal this morning to say the money is now in my account and the transaction is completed.

problem - price was $26.10AUD, $24.91AUD was credited.

are there fees that i would be charged? i would have thought that they would come off the buyer's end?

katiepotatie  said about 5 months ago:

(i know its only a dollar but im getting really sick of having to try and translate emails in polish from the buyer!)

memphis  said about 5 months ago:

it's an option to pay that fee or have it come out of the sellers end, it's very maddening

livingincanada  said about 4 months ago:

Paypal fees for selling to Poland are listed as 4.4% + $0.05 fixed fee for ''cross border'' payments. Seller pays fees. $24.91 is exactly right.
