Bags that don't suck

nishiki  said about 8 months ago  or at  12:53PM on Wednesday, March 5 2008.

I've never had to shop for a bag that is both functional and stylish. Since time began it has been all about the style, never the substance. Alas, now I am faced with a new problem:

How the fuck do I find a bag designed for carrying lots of books and things that won't fuck up my back and isn't lame?

If you mention Caribee or any 'sports gear' bags there will be death and blood upon you.

Gravis

AlterEgo  said about 8 months ago:

it has no pockets though. it'd be great if they had a pocket / handbag style version.

STM bags are great, 'shiki!

popular bag

Pelt and/or Holler  said about 8 months ago:

STM bags, even. from NSW but available in lots of stores. Kinda pricey, and slightly laptopy oriented but still really good bags. I've put mine through a lot.

you could make that one with wheels remote control so you don't actually have to drag it along. that's what mobile phone handsets should be able to do. become remote controls for your remote control bags on wheels.

then you could have bag races at lunchtimes and on the way to and from work.

getting another six pack from the bottle shop could all be done by remote.

That would be ace.

via proxy the shapes are good but the patterns arn't as good, thanks!

god, I sound like a mega-bitch - thanks very much pops for that link. The bags look great but I don't think the patterns would work for what I want. Perhaps I need to approach them to make a custom one, or I just need to stop being so fucken fussy!

redlips  said about 4 months ago:

ok, so I ordered a fraulein tote from these people (in red) and I am fast falling in love with madame mooi - might need one of them too...

whats a decent backpack for a guy? can you buy basic ones that don't fall apart and don't make you look like you're in year 8?

PaulsGrandfather  said about 2 months ago:

So I'm looking for a nifty shoulder bag/satchel sort of thing that I can travel with. Something sturdy with decent space/pockets but simple. Don't want to have to wear a backpack.

Can anyone suggest a good website/shop/bag?

filterfeed  said about 2 months ago:

oh, so you don't want to carry around 3 handbags like this one girl i saw on the train this morning, peej? how odd of you.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 2 months ago:

I do but finding 3 handbags I like (and that match) is a NIGHTMARE!!!

Have you tried Leather Cargo on Lonsdale Street? (Near the corner of Swanston.)

PaulsGrandfather  said about 2 months ago:

Leather Cargo... trying to visualise it.... I know where you mean, I don't think I have.

I will check it out, thanks!

MrsGideon  said about 2 months ago:

This etsy seller has some ace travelly sort of handbaggy kind of bags. She does nice linings too, which I place great importance on.

PaulsGrandfather  said about 2 months ago:

They're a bit out of my price range but I do like them.

I heartily endorse this recommendation! When I was down there they were having 50% off everything... and they lovely man makes out receipts for you which say ''briefcase'' and the like so you can tax deduct it.

my green bag is awesome, large and holds everything I need.
