So I've found somewhere to live, now I need to find things to do.
Agents are playing on Wednesday. The Brunettes are playing Thursday. I don't love either of these bands but I'm inclined to go anyway. It beats waiting until Helmet play in May to leave the house.
Post exciting things that happen in Canberra here, if any.

Have you been to Cockington Green? I quite like it there.
Downer.
ANU bar
Canberra Tradesmen's Union Club. Bikes, trams and bingo. And beer.
get on a train to sydney
build a time machine and go to impact records
you mean go for lunch with him?
cockington what?
ANU is ridiculously amazing. a galaxy of witty t-shirts and nary a neon tracksuit to be seen. threadless must be making a fortune off these kids. my favourite so far today was a t-shirt that had a man standing next to a tree. the tree had a speech-bubble saying 'hug me' and the dude replying 'NO'. hi-larity.
oh yeah, the tradies. i was sick after eating there once but the beer should be fine.
Cockington Green is the best
check it!
drama!:
cultural melange!
29th March, 7.30pm.
Canberra Raiders vs St George Illawarra Dragons
Canberra Stadium, Bruce
See! red menace knows.
Phoenix Bar, Monday night. The End.
cockington: SOLD. how do i get to this magical place?
Drink from the bottle that says ''Drink Me''.
cockington is great.. its just out on the barton highway at gold creek in gungahlin..
im gonna go the the brunettes aswell, should be ok..
questacon, war memorial, and national museum and the film and sound archive are all great.
ron sexsmith is playing at a great venue called tilleys in a couple of weeks
were you here for the multicultural festival ? that was pretty good..
frenk: what happens at phoenix on mondays?
joe: film and sound archive i hope to visit soon.
isn't tilley's the ex-dyke club?
and no, i was still moving all my junk around last week unfortch.
yeah, it kinda still has a bit of a lesbian culture, but its cool and gigs ther edont happen very much and its a great place to see them..
but pretty much anyone goes there now, nice place for a beer
YES COCKINGTON GREEN!!!
I think there's usually interesting stuff at Manuka Art Space (or Cafe or whatever it's called). The nice lady at Toast recommended it.*
* I do not recommend Toast.
hmmm, manuka is a bit far away. i think i'll be able to enjoy this town a lot more once i get a bike. i think i might have to go to sydney for the one i want though.
Seconded. Phoenix Bar on Monday nights is the best....just get there early if you actually want to get in.
Go to Corinbank this weekend if there's anything in the lineup that catches your eye (or is that ear?).
Generally speaking...ANU or The Green Room for gigs. Other places get a few....but those two get most of the ones you'd probably want to see.
The national institute places are worth at least one visit...national library, national gallery, national musuem, questacon, national war memorial, parliament house, old parliament house.
There's LOVELY walks/runs/rides around the lake, through Commonweath Park as well.
Avoid Tuggeranong.

The Lighthouse Keepers
Canberra is a very transient place and therefore doesn't have much sense of it's own history. But back in the mists of time there have been fleeting musical moments. The members of the Lighthouse Keepers, a mid eighties indie band - all come from this harshly climed roundabout capital. There was a small punk movement in Canberra in the late seventies and early eighties and a very eclectic group of young people were making their own punk inspired sounds. Amongst them were the core of the Lighthouse Keepers. But the music of the Lighthouse Keepers was almost an opposite reaction to all this sweaty male electric stuff. They began as exiles in far away Sydney - playing country music covers and rediscovering melody. They went on to some success as the eighties threw up all sorts of bands in Australia. They are briefly reforming as part of the release of their ''best of'' CD - ''Ode to Nothing''. The shows so far have been very successful leaving audiences with smiles on their faces in Melbourne and Sydney. Come and see some Canberran history.
