Does anyone know any bands that are playing London in September that are worth checking out? I haven't been able to come across any that have caught my eye.

hiponion  said about 2 years ago:

I'm heading over probably Dec-Jan, so that will be awesome.

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

buddy, september seems like a bad time... i was there last year in sept and it was just after all the summer festivals had happened so most bands had just toured. But it's london, there's sure to be something worth seeing at some point.

buddychilzelski  said about 2 years ago:

I hope so Blake. I can't see too many other reasons being there.

and...''just outside London...'' (anyone else notice that practically every English person you meet in Australia claims to hail from,''Just outside London'')

anyway, poster spotted at a local pub today. energetic mid-70s rockers Eddie And The Hot Rods are playing the South Coast.

Friday 17th October at The Half Brick, which is a pub at number 221 Brighton Road ''just outside'' Worthing.

I & Mrs Peter - who is probably quite unfamiliar with E&tHRods - may be going and i will confirm with a bump mid-week leading up to the Friday.

a 700 bus from either Brighton or Worthing travels directly passed the pub.

do anything you want to do!

Justice For Kirsty MacColl
Sunday 12 October 2008
Soho Square
12 noon

The annual gathering of Kirsty MacColl's friends, family and fans takes place in Soho Square at 12 noon as usual.

Claire Iden will read out any messages before we make the short two minute trip to the welcoming Spice of Life pub in nearby Moor Street which will be ready to serve food and drink until the last people leave (often around 10pm!). There will be plenty of singing so we hope you are in good voice, musician fans from Norway hope to come again and Claire has other surprises for us. In the last two years we have been joined by a second generation of fans and we are delighted to welcome them.

Everyone is welcome to come along - Kirsty's mother Jean will be there with the Justice For Kirsty Campaign team as well as hundreds of like minded Kirsty fans from all over the globe (we've had friends come from the USA, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Australia ... all over the globe!).

Jean adds ''I look forward to our meeting on Sunday, October 12th in Soho. Please don't think because nothing appears on the web site that we are not working for justice behind the scenes. Rest assured that when we have news for you, we will let you know.''

A MIDWINTER PICNIC (IN AID OF AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL)

Chris T-T, Spiers & Boden, Jim Bob, Tom Williams, Emily Barker and more to be announced...

Sunday 11 January 2009
West Hill Hall
West Hill, Compton Avenue, BRIGHTON, BN1 3PS 12pm - 11pm

An eclectic all-day acoustic music event in Brighton, scheduled for Sunday 11th Jan 2009 at the intimate West Hill Hall, near Brighton railway station.

Ten of the UK’s finest performers and songwriters, from across the pop, punk and trad folk scenes, join forces to raise money for Amnesty International.

Artists already confirmed to perform at Midwinter Picnic include:
hugely acclaimed trad folk duo Spiers & Boden, chart-topping Carter USM frontman Jim Bob, Australian alt-country chanteuse Emily Barker and Tunbridge Wells’ fresh new Radio One favourite Tom Williams.
A further bunch of special guests are promised.

Midwinter Picnic is curated by Brighton-based radical singer Chris T-T (who will also perform) and is organised in conjunction with new London charity promoters Lexapalooza. Chris said: “Amnesty’s work is more relevant than ever, with our freedoms eroded daily and ID cards round the corner. The evil of torture has gained a foothold in supposedly civilised countries and we need to kick it out. As well as raising money, something like Midwinter Picnic can remind people there are things they can do, letters they can write, which will make a real difference.

Midwinter Picnic runs 3pm-10.30pm on Sunday 11th January.
It’s a ‘bring-your-own food’n’booze’ style event, although organisers will sell hot drinks and snacks throughout the day.

Tickets £12 + fees
Over 16's only
