ChrisBrimstone  said about 4 years ago  or at  1:52PM on Thursday, January 24 2008 in music

A general L.Cohen thread... man's a genius. Dad got me into him when i was young, grew up with the stuff, etc... now he's touring the US. reckon he'll come here?

The following advance notice is posted with Leonard's permission.

Leonard Cohen will be touring with his band in
Canada and US in May and in Europe in the summer.
More details will be announced in February.

Thread does not deliver.

esquared  said about 4 years ago:

oh my god, i only just found out that hes pretty much confirmed to tour.

cohen makes perfect sense as the headliner of sydney festival 09, yeah?

Yeah! We'd had Cohen tributes and he's the perfect artist to anchor the festival... he'll make the middle aged ladies swoon and the young coolsies swarm

ChrisBrimstone  said about 4 years ago:

also: do gals actually respond to cohen songs or is that a myth?

i've got his poetry book and his novel. its all a bit... eh. too much Canadian sex

monosylabik  said about 4 years ago:

i want to see him play so badly.

esquared  said about 4 years ago:

yeah i would pretty much die of happiness if he toured.

Ghostface  said about 4 years ago:

That would be good wouldn't it.. Where would he play? Opera house, with a dimly lit stage? Ooh boy, my dad would be so jealous

ChrisBrimstone  said about 4 years ago:

my dad is obsessed

i'm thinking Opera House, yeah. and a book signing/poetry thing at the state library

esquared  said about 4 years ago:

3 night stint at the state theatre, i reckon.

poetry recital would be sexy

monosylabik  said about 4 years ago:

cohen my dad's favourite too. he played it in my room when i was a baby. then as i grew we listened to his records while my mum would holler from the other room 'TURN THAT SUICIDE MUSIC OFF!' we would smile at each other because we knew she didn't understand.

i love him.

ChrisBrimstone  said about 4 years ago:

when i was 15 my dad said i was 'old enough' and gave me some Leonard Cohen albums. i thought he mean i was 'old enough' to listen to them by myself and get depressed. I used to have big debates with hin on Dylan vs Cohen... which got worse once i leant my dad's valuable cohen poetry book to a girl at uni

a few months ago i realized dad was probably saying 'use this music to get action' but i was a bit oblivious

i dig cohen but i still blush a bit at some of his stuff

ChrisBrimstone  said about 4 years ago:

also at uni we had to bring in a favorite song and i brought in a cohen song and this cute sad girl who never smiled smiled

Ghostface  said about 4 years ago:

It would be, but not if tickets were $120!

ChrisBrimstone  said about 4 years ago:

it'd be kinda worth it though

andydepressant  said about 4 years ago:

Ween is good. This would be better.

andydepressant  said about 4 years ago:

Germany has certainly helped that band forget how derivative they are. If they get successful and write a biography they'll have to lease of it from Cave. Moral of the story; at least Cave knows he will never EVER beat Cohen.

aaaron  said about 4 years ago:

Wasn't there something about him playing at an arts festival in Adelaide with Philip Glass a few months ago?

Went today- MIDI SAX

CryMeARiver  said about 1 year ago:

Amazing show but fuck the organisation re: parking was woeful.
Near on 2 hours to drive the 6km in from the tunroff and then we were stuck in the carpark for another 2 hours before we even started moving on the way home.

It was a fantastic gig though.

prince  said about 1 year ago:

Fucking carpark what a disaster, spoilt the fucking day. Useless cunts waving red glo sticks and detours everywhere. Heard a local saying they closed off a few roads. Why???

Goal attack  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah the drive in was shit. Decided to leave just before encores and got out fine. First set was not good for me due to excess of midi sax and general comfy old baby boomer stylings but set two was far better

JRB  said about 1 year ago:

Did you catch a glimpse of the MIDI bassoon?

Anyhow, awesome gig. He did all the songs you could have wanted (although my own personal wish list would have included Alexandra Leaving and The Story of Isaac with an encore of Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On).

The band was interesting. I mean, the sound was very dated and cheesy but Lennie seemed to transcend that. To my ears (and feel free to disagree) everything was arranged to highlight the songs above the individual players. Sure, there were plenty of solos but they functioned in a way that supported the story of the song and the integrity of the words. Normally I'd hate that kind of band and those kinds of solos but in the context it worked.
