i did a fuckin search and all that; and all the spencer threads were about something to do with spencer but no damn appreciation thread. i appreciate this super fine melbourne musician . classic giutar sound and a right old (funny) cunt - been in and still is in some ripper fuck off bands; and still writing some damn fine songs, and albums. And the final word from some guy called Neil Young - ''a sound worth bottling''

when i lived in melbourne i'd go see him everytime he played and was so suprised at how small the crowds were sometimes..same goes for rowland s howard..but anyway, yeah spencer is amazing.
rumour of death is quite the album........ ive seen him twice at my local pub. first time i was underage and at the time i was really getting in to his stuff so as you would imagine i was very excited to be in a pub listening to the escape committee. they were brilliant. spencer was fantastic, and the band had a huge sound. second time, they came up with the legends of motorsport and spencer was absolutely blind. not such a great performance. but it was still great. he actually fired the band that night, then rehired them the next day
Fait Accompli is the only album I have and I love it. Its a classic album in my books.
Saw him last night at the Retreat, with some bloke I totally recognise on drums and who I thought was some young gun for hire on guitar, but was actually John Nolan (Powdermonkeys) who was awesome. I've havnt enjoyed watching a lead guitarist so much in ages.
Of course Spencer still has Helen Cattanach on bass. I felt a bit odd wearing my Sonic Youth T-shirt with her in the room.
yeah the escape committee sounding fucking amazing at the moment with John Nolan playing guitar. missed last night unfortunately but he's doing a month of sundays up there i believe.
Ben - The Lost Anxiety Tapes is a ripper album also, as is the latest one - Fugative Songs.
My favorite song of Fugitive Songs (She's Not Kidding Round) is actually by Phil, not Spencer.
'When I'm No Longer Poor' off that album is a Dead Salesmen cover also.
is tonight the last light at the Retreat ?
does anyone one know times?
want to go, but it's very hot to be trekking if they are on really early, and potentially miss Spencer Escape Committee and John.
ive heard stories but does anyone know what the tattoo on spencers left arm is all about?
ha ha that was funny alec I was at that gig - he was legless when he got there - fell off his chair before the first band even started!
a memorable show - I think the band quit before he fired them
Playing at the Pint on Punt 10th of May with full band.
2004/5? big day out and Spencer is nowhere to be seen and due on stage in 1hr, someone asks me if i have seen him around to which i replied '' yeah, he was out with a group of us last night and the last time i saw him was at orange where we were skulling bloody marys til 10am''. After some frantic phone calls he is awoken after crashing out on the couch at home and makes it with seconds to spare....YAY! Poor bastard must have felt like shit, i know i did.
haha that was my birthday
it was too! x
Spencer P and The Last Gasp were freakin' awesome.
Starting a band based on The Saint's 'Know your product', how could you possibly go wrong??
I gotta buy that record sometime...
These are some photo's I took of Spence at The Greyhound while I was in Melbs last year... he was in fine form that night! He sold the shirt off his back for ten bucks... then sold the other shirt he was wearing for another ten... and then played shirtless until a punter gave him an 'Eagles' Tour shirt... which he was STOKED about.

Apparantley Spencer used to stay on Neil Young's ranch when travelling to the states. They are friends.
Played at the Pint on Punt to an audience which included a hurling team.
the band was in tip top form the other evening at the spanish club.......john nolan is a handy little inclusion.

This. Definitely this.
Agreed.
Whats up with the Bang! vinyl? Website link is broken. Anyone know where I can get it?
man, this is why I fucken love Melbourne.
Bang! vinyl is available at Missing Link ($40).
ah cool thanks. also, Kim said that they'll be doing a couple of songs together at the end of each night. should be awesome.
same in Brisbane where he had in big font on his arm ''don't be a dickhead''. Before he started he gave me a middle finger salute and even then I didn't recognise him. If I'd have recognised him I'd have politely snotted a reply his way. But then he started playing - I'd wager $7.50 he could play note perfect asleep. Through the show he was mixing his drinks and threw a glass of water over a stand in guitarist and most lyrics were slurred, but it still sounded spot on. Oh and he called Brisbane 'Florida for ageing rockers' .... ouch.....
i'm worried about Spencer.
Really? Why??? Don't freak me out like that. Is he going hard at the moment or something???
playing a coffee shop in st.kilda today. Fuken-A!!
Where???
set shot coffee lounge (behind metropol)
You Melbourne cunts have it good. I'd have no spare time if I was down there I'd be too busy checking out all these gigs
3 hour set every Tuesday night, man...
...which always seem to be poorly attended.
where?
We enjoyed the gig at Set Shop today. It took ages to find (just walk along the platform at the old St Kilda train station) but fortunately they didn't start at the advertised time so we didn't miss anything. The sound was good from where the audience was but there was no foldback so Spencer had to ask how the sound was.
Set Shot sorry.
Spencer and band put a stellar performance at Set Shot today! hopefully there'll be more gigs in this venue.
There may just be a live dvd in then ext few months. Maybe...
