Coles off to a Good Start for Easter

7 March 2007

Up to one million children in Australia regularly go to school without having had anything to eat. This can affect their physical development and can lead to learning and behavioural problems, while also having an impact on other children at school.

Recognising the urgent and growing need to address this problem in Australia, Coles Supermarkets has stepped in this Easter to make a real difference in the community and improve the outlook for many Australian children.

Coles has teamed up with one of Australia's most trusted humanitarian organisations, Australian Red Cross, to ensure that more than 500,000 meals are served annually to children who may otherwise go without.

Through the Good Start Breakfast Club initiative, Australian children in disadvantaged areas are provided with a healthy meal in the morning, nutrition education and a supportive environment.

To support this partnership, Coles Supermarkets has introduced 'You'll love Coles Red Cross Buns' to its stores, with part of the funds from their sale going to the Good Start Breakfast Club.

'This wonderful initiative from Coles is warmly welcomed,' said Australian Red Cross CEO Robert Tickner. 'Anyone who purchases 'You'll love Coles Hot Cross Buns' from Coles Supermarkets can be proud of the fact that they are also supporting a program to give Australian children the best possible start to the day.'

'The Good Start Breakfast Club program is incredibly important- we simply cannot ignore the fact that poor nutrition, especially at the beginning of the day, can negatively impact a child's ability to learn and develop, both physically and mentally.'

'You'll love Coles Red Cross Buns' have been developed to be the best hot cross buns on the market. They are made using the highest quality ingredients, including sweet, juicy Sunbeam Sunmuscats, a fusion of raisins and sultanas, grown in Australia. Recognising the quality of this unique Australian-grown fruit, Coles Supermarkets secured the majority of the 2006 crop for use exclusively in its buns.

'We are proud to be able to deliver the highest quality and best tasting hot cross buns on the market, as well as making a real difference in many communities across Australia by helping children and their families,' said Anna Greco of Coles Supermarkets.

'We are providing financial, promotional and fundraising support to Australian Red Cross so that the program can provide nutrition education and more than 500,000 meals to children in 2007 and one million by 2010.'

'We look forward to our customers joining with us this Easter in supporting this campaign by buying the 'You'll love Coles Red Cross Buns'. And from 5 March to 1 April, customers can also support the cause by buying Australian Red Cross teddies or simpl

These adds are genius. It's a great relief to know your not the only one buying home brand milk. Kind of like finding out your not the only one that checks for stains on the toilet paper to see if you need another wipe.
