Is radio rapidly becoming redundant?

Digital  said about 2 years ago  or at  10:24PM on Wednesday, June 21 2006.

I know there will always places for talkback but are stations more interested in music competing heavily with mp3 players these days? I'd like to see a graphical comparision between numbers of people listening to radio and the numbers of mp3 players sold.

I don't think you would really come by a better radio station than Triple R.

Its shitty fucking djs faults. In the 50s-80s, radio was an essential format for new musics, and DJs where meant to have their fingers on the pulse, to be finding upcoming bands and trends. It's what made music exciting.

Granted, Triple R and even some adelaide local stations have good shows, but by and large commercial radio sucks balls as a boring medium that deserves to be replaced by mp3 blogs and such.

en la noche  said about 7 months ago:

most people listening to commercial radio don't care enough about music to be trawling mp3 blogs for it, they just want some shit to listen to at work/on the ride home

en la noche  said about 7 months ago:

also radio rules and i don't see it becoming redundant. sometimes i get sick of my mp3s and want to hear someone elses,

goldslip  said about 7 months ago:

radio rules my life

i think it will become stronger as tv is becoming redundant

rigid  said about 7 months ago:

i listen to the radio more now than i have in the last ten years. it keeps you young and in love with the world. crotchety old fucks who are happy to let their minds atrophy hate the radio.

switchbladesisters  said about 7 months ago:

jimmytrash  said about 7 months ago:

yeah i used to love radioplays on 3d when i was younger, was really into them. Especially horror stuff.

celluloid hero  said about 7 months ago:

all i know is that i dont listen to it

probably should though

but i'd only use it to hear new stuff and the internet's done a pretty good job at that, so

FrankieTeardrop  said about 7 months ago:

In general it's the programmers' fault. I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore, even RRR and PBS.

tinyman  said about 7 months ago:

i LOVE radio. don't get much of a chance to listen to it these days though. on the train i'll be listening to the ipod.

Godzilla  said about 7 months ago:

if this thread is any indication, with a 1 year lag in activity, I'd say no to the rapidly bit.

MountainMan  said about 7 months ago:

i only listen to AM radio these days and I listen to them a lot. 3AW, 774 and the BBC world service. Those stations are going gangbusters.

september  said about 7 months ago:

most nights i'd rather listen to bruce and phil on 3AW's nightline than watch television.

tinyman  said about 7 months ago:

plus, something like the bbc world service fills a very important role. or at least it sounds serious enough to convince me of it.

rigid  said about 7 months ago:

about 70% of my radio listening time i'm tuned to the bbc world news service. also that guy who does the quiz after midnight. do you listen to that quiz september?

calico  said about 6 months ago:

the more stuff that's out there, the more people want/need a trusted filter. i didn't grow up with radio national, for example, but i listen to it every morning and i podcast a few of their regular programs that i never managed to get the timing right for before.
