Listening to The Glow Pt. 2 is a superb way to start a day.

I love that Phil loves mountains.

such a good album... his voice is so warm...

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

I also like that he added an 'e' to his surname.

openroad  said about 2 years ago:

ha! why? does it add to his mystere? :)

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

I don't know. Usually when people change their names, they change their names. He just added an 'e' to it haha. According to wikipedia, it's because of a town in Norway he liked with the same name.

openroad  said about 2 years ago:

why the hell not eh?

when he was in australia he developed an obsession for cherry ripes. ended up buying a whole box to take back home.

trivia.

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

See, that's what I like. People who just do stuff... because they want to.

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

if that makes sense. ha.

shunt  said about 2 years ago:

much appreciated

bestunbeatenbrother  said about 2 years ago:

is that phil of no through road fame?

troyw  said about 2 years ago:

he's also a massive Caddyshack fan

PaulsGrandfather  said about 2 years ago:

*appreciates*

Much love to Phil.

shunt  said about 2 years ago:

phil wished me a happy birthday at his show in ballarat in 2004 (though then refused to play "the moon" as a b'day gift)

also he said my jumper was the most beautiful sweater he'd ever seen, or something to that effect

both such events had me floating or air for months after

hiponion  said about 2 years ago:

a wonderful man making wonderful music

switchbladesisters  said about 2 years ago:

looks like he'll be out here with his wife (WOELV) for shows early in the new year.... nyyyce.

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

GOOD NEWS!!!

switchbladesisters  said about 2 years ago:

you didn't hear that from me, of course. from... some other person.

blake3030  said about 2 years ago:

"yeah, I heard it from switchbladesisters on the internet"

Trust me i'd be emabrrassed to say it, you've got nothing to worry about.

switchbladesisters  said about 2 years ago:

you'd LOVE to say it blake... it sounds mysterious AND cool.

so much so, maybe i'll say it.

pumps ego

switchbladesisters  said about 2 years ago:

haha- I have boo-booed! It is in fact WOELV and Calvin Johnson, not Phil. he is sitting this one out at home, reportedly.

but we will see his wife, so we can all ask about him.

I was surprised by the repetititititititive nature of his lyrics as rendered so clear by the barebones presentation, but as a friend pointed out, maybe it's quite charming that he has this very singular thematic focus. Anyway, I think he has such an articulate and sweet voice, even if sometimes his guitar playing was surprisingly sloppy as he fumbled for the right chord or intonation. I appreciated his wry humour. He's probably one of very few acoustic guitar and voice types I could fully enjoy.

djbollocks  said about 3 months ago:

Phil needs to stop singing about the moon and the wind and keep to the tried and trusted boy meets girl, boy loses girl thematic.

blake3030  said about 3 months ago:

Nah, I like the wind stuff.

He has a wife now. So if he was to sing about love stuff, it would probably be too lovey dovey.

I thought the most common theme among all the wind, mountains and moons was that the world is really really big and he is really really small. He seems to think about that a lot... and that's fine by me. Like black wasp said, he articulates it in an interesting way and he has a very warm voice which makes it easy to hear.

Also, I really like his pictures. I wanna be in that fog and on those mountains.

He's kind of singing about both, in elemental metaphors!

Does anyone know if the footage was actually of Mt Erie? It kind of looks like it, but I can't be sure because I only drove around and not up it.

djbollocks  said about 3 months ago:

Blake - I was just being facetious before, I quite like that he doesn't just sing about boy-girl/girl-boy stuff. To be honest I find must singer-songwriters boring and indulgent, not that I'd lump Phil Elverum in with that lot, I just wish he'd broarden his lyrical palette a little.

runoutgroove  said about 1 month ago:

this reminds me of something. does anyone know who bought Phil's guitar during the sydney Kirk show in 2004? He auctioned off the guitar during the set, can't remember how much for, but i've alwasy wondered where it ended up.

sceaux  said about 1 month ago:

I'm pretty sure it was Tyson and it was for $50. If my memory is working..?

does he still have it i wonder?

SpringRain  said 21 days ago:

I've just heard half of Lost Wisdom, and it's quite excellent. I love the group singing stuff. He's a pretty incredible recording artist. As in he records things very well. If I had good headphones I imagine that would be the way to listen to him...
