It won't be televised
I love his album 'Spirits'.
I've seen him live 3 times.
I think he may be in prison now, though.
It would be interesting to see him live. There needs to be a modern tribute album (He appears on the 2002 Blackalicious album "Blazing Arrow", but he doesn't do a whole lot). Yeah according to Wikipedia he is most likely in jail.
whitey on the moon...godhead!
Yeah he's in prison, diamond. Two years for breaking parole or something.
I only have The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. It's good, it's historic, it's wayyy ahead of its time, but I just can't listen to it.
On July 5th, 2006, Scott-Heron was sentenced to two-to-four years in prison for violating a plea deal on a drug possession charge by leaving a treatment center. Heron said he is HIV-positive and claimed the in-patient rehab center stopped giving him his medication. The prosecution countered that Heron had once skipped out for an appearance with singer Alicia Keys.[1]
I was listening to him yesterday- I find it upifting which is good as depressing music can take it out of you. So still appareciating (sic).
I saw him in The Jazz Cafe in London in 2001 and he was great. Amazing baritone voice. Only dissapointing thing was that there was not one black face in the audience. Considering he's spent much of his life being a voice for Afro-Americans.
gil scott full NEW ALBUM widget/streaming thing and a shameless self-ref to my new blab blog
hope that works
it's from the Guardian site if you can't stand the blog. That voice, and the title (smog) tune....
No GSH fans here? This is such a fine return to form
i love the new album, like all Gil stuff though i wish he would sing more
Early contender for album of the year?
I reckon so...
Lady Day & John Coltrane - killer cut from Gil!
i just bought the 'im new here' LP.
i'm a little annoyed that the version of the LP avail in australia is a single 12'' - the US and UK issues are x2 gatefold vinyl (the new LP + a bonus LP of new live versions of gil's back catalogue)
There's also the 7'' of Me And The Devil which includes and orchestral mix of the tune on the flip.
on to it jrb
you guys gonna oder the 2LP? Is it still available? + Were?
I think Northside has some in stock.
Yeah, Polyester in city have x2 Vinyl for the same price as single (?)
same price?? damn! i bought the copy (with the single 12'') that i mentioned above at polyester!
grrr...
oh well - damn fine album all the same.
my copy just arrived in the post. thanks for the tip jrb
awesome album
Yeah really good. I love his cover of Smog's I'm New Here also the short spoken word piece Where Did the Night Go.
remix album by jamie xx. not liking the cover of ny is killing me.
a second jamie xx mix has been released this time of I'll Take Care of You
i’m liking these remixes – massively looking forward to the full remix lp.
i endorse this thread, schlubbs, but find many who have posted on it repulsive.
(not you, Lucy Diamond).
we're still here, the remix album by jamie xx, is fully streaming (for free) here:

shiiiit.
Damn.
RIP
I well remember discovering his music with my friends years ago...we were obsessed with him for a year or so. His last album is also wonderful. Really sad about this.
Such sad news, his last album was so good too, who knows the great music he would've continued to do if he'd lived a while longer.
Terrible, terrible news. A visionary gone.
Rest in peace
