knitting, sewing and such things

freaksandgeeks  said about 5 years ago  or at  4:06PM on Wednesday, June 21 2006 in chat

i'm starting this thread as I know alot of us like making things and i like seeing what people make, ideas etc.

I was cutting out a dress the other night, and the buns and cat insisted on lying all over the pattern-a bit like this cat:

such a cute pic hey

Project-Rabbit  said about 5 years ago:

yep very cute, I'm working on a jewelry board. similar to this:

http://georgielove.com/miscellaneous-c-17.html?zenid=b79fbaeb00fe863026171cbbf5722931

but el cheapo- I'll not paying $200!!
So I've got a pin board but am still trying to decide on the design

Project-Rabbit  said about 5 years ago:

Now why didn't that work??

freaksandgeeks  said about 5 years ago:

yeah alot of her stuff is a mega rip-off. I hate to think how much the artists get. It's like etsy shops-the website takes 40%

Use this:

you gotta save the pic to your computer first

as soon as i start doing "stuff" out come the cats. chewing on the end of knitting needles, jumping on thread. just wanting to help. in and out of plastic bags. one even goes to my wardrobe and helps himself to his own ball of wool and kicks the guts out of it with his back legs.

gotta love it!

svelteslacks  said about 5 years ago:

i am currently cutting up old dresses and making them into new dresses.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

I've been making brooches.

my kitten does this too!

it's cute, but irritating

Rorge  said about 5 years ago:

why am I even in this thread?

nishiki  said about 5 years ago:

recycling material rocks. i'm thinking about cutting up a dress and making a shirt. or maybe a loincloth.

svelteslacks  said about 5 years ago:

what kind of brooches kuro?

i saw a lady at the camberwell markets the other day who makes her own buttons out of vintage scraps.

so adorable... all my coats are getting new buttons.

kuroneko  said about 5 years ago:

all sorts, sveltey. I'll make you one.

freaksandgeeks  said about 5 years ago:

recycling is great. I've remade a couple of skirts and I'm making a red stripey dress for hanoi casey at the moment, hoping to finish it tonight.

de.foxus  said about 5 years ago:

i want to get back into beading again... it's a lot of fun.

i just don't have the cash at the moment for the initial outlay of 'stuff', so maybe in a couple of months time.

damselfly  said about 5 years ago:

those georgie love prices are outrageous. i am always buying old stuff because the fabric is beautiful. i tell myself that one day i will do something with it. starting to get beyond a joke tho.

de.foxus  said about 5 years ago:

ooh, i nearly bought a huge roll of fabric from the alannah hill/dangerfield etc outlet on brunswick st on the weekend, but i couldn't actually carry it with me, so i didn't.

black canvas with bright pink shoes and handbags on it. who has a car and can bring it back to my house for me?

svelteslacks  said about 5 years ago:

that would be so awesome kuro... thanks so much.

i'll think of a special present for you too.

themarshall  said about 5 years ago:

I've just finshed making Roman blinds for the living room & bedroom. I've also made a MOUND of cushions from vintage fabric from Flashback. I made some cushions for Loadie too - now I am knitting a beanie for philspectator.

Next is a bass head cover for RnR reject!

Many projects on the go.

I crocheted my first beanie last night. So so much quicker than knitting one. Now I've got to make one for my sister so off to Cleggs today to get some more wool.

She thinks I should make this hilarious 'chicken viking' hat!

Yes they are chicken legs on top of that poor small child's head!

my purling needs work.

Any stitch and bitch sessions around town this winter?

gusseting  said about 3 years ago:

juice - yes. although i think we need to have some messandnoise s'n'bs rather than the standard ones. details of melbs based s'n'bs are at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/snb-melbourne/ - check out the calendar.

if you want to get yr knit on, ravelry.com is a rather lovely place to be. sort of like a messandnoise for knitters, except much bigger, and no badalex.

LoadMyRig  said about 2 years ago:

on the weekend september taught me how to knit. this is a side i have never seen of september - she's a good teacher!

now i am building a scarf the same colour as my eyes.

it's damn rewarding and carthartic stuff.

LoadMyRig  said about 2 years ago:

I made some cushions for Loadie too

ha. marshie made me those cushions three years ago and they are still going strong!

juicenewton*  said about 2 years ago:

Hooray for knitting! After learning last year and finally mastering the purl I am on my 5th scarf and also making a long top/jumper from an 80s pattern (although I've already changed it a bit) a bit like those ones in Fat which they charge $600 for.

Thanks for the Ravelry link, gussetting. I am now knitting a stunt bootee with scraps prior to investing in some amazing yarn.

september  said about 2 years ago:

hmmm. the thread room (marta's yarns) is closing to the public in two weeks and doing all their trading online.

Lilo  said about 2 years ago:

I'm knitting myself a pair of mittens, in a lovely cranberry-red wool/cashmere/silk. I somehow lost a stitch near the start, so the ribbing is a bit wonky near the beginning, but I don't think it matters.

When the mittens are done I'm going to knit myself a cranberry beret to go with them.

gusseting  said about 2 years ago:

it's official mum! i'm famous! clara parkes reviewed socksummit in portland, and gave us a plug! yahoo!

gusseting  said about 2 years ago:

'cause this thread is getting freaking huge, i've started a new one.
