While this should've been called 'The "Dr. John" Thread', I still wholeheartedly endorse it.

His last album, 'Nawlinz - Dis, Dat or Dudda' was brilliant! One of his best ever.

One of my all time regrets is not seeing him at the Prince of Wales a couple of years ago.

Phwoar, just looked in the pile of CDs I had sitting next to me and Dr. John's 'Going Back To New Orleans' was in there!

All I own is Gris Gris Gumbo Ya-Ya. Do I need anything else?

PelicanGodOfJupiter  said about 5 years ago:

Yes you do, get N'awlinz Dis Dat or D'udda.

It has an amazing version of 'When The Saints Go Marching In' sung by Mavis Staples.

Zu Zu Man

This album just finished. I don't know why it was sitting in my office. I know I have it on my ipod, but I'd hardly ever listened to it. Get it.

"Alright let's hear from The Neville Brothers!"
*rad chorus of Nevilles*

His album Anthura Zone (sp?) is pretty crap, but has 'I Don't Wanna Know About Evil' on it, which is a great song.

I got Gumbo yesterday!

I <3 IT!

Woohoo! A thread is not only already hear, but I was the last person to post in it.

Ark Shattack  said about 4 years ago:

er... here.

I hate people that do that... and now I have done it.

T J Honeysuckle  said about 4 years ago:

And what a great post it was, too.
Are these two related?

and

I think so.

Ark Shattack  said about 4 years ago:

Ha, quite possibly.

Ark Shattack  said about 4 years ago:

Did you see Dr. John when he was out here a few years ago?

I didn't really know him at the time, just heard of him, so I missed him. I literally became a fan weeks after he was here.

medicineman  said about 4 years ago:

that happens to me all the time Ark.

where should I start with Dr John?

T J Honeysuckle  said about 4 years ago:

No, I've never seen him. Been listening to him for quite a while. He should be part of everyone's musical vocabulary.

Ark Shattack  said about 4 years ago:

I love his spot on The Last Waltz.

That was why I bought 'In The Right Place' - it had 'Such A Night' on it.

caught him last night at the corner. pretty good show for a guy of his age. delighted to find he is still doing his voodoo schtick, if only a bit. great get-up too. too much slap bass and fonk lowered the tone.

where should I start with Dr John?

of the albums, 'dr john's gumbo' is accessible, catchy. 'gris-gris' and 'remedies' are great wig-outs.
