I want a Retro Bicycle

I'm kicking myself for selling my old bike, it was beautiful...
Is there a place in Melbourne that sells these specifically?

I mean retro not low-rider

kinda like these:

I'm obsessed with 80's BMX's. Skyways, Mongooses, Diamond Backs, Redlines, Hutches, Haros etc.

Yeah I know low riders... they have low riders, but not a lot of retro bikes

goldfoot  said about 5 years ago:

Rebel sports in Sydney had some cruisers recently.

You need to find someone who imports Electra bikes down there

the power of 666  said about 5 years ago:

Low Riders are corny.

the power of 666  said about 5 years ago:

A solid big fuck off beat up dragster still rules though

The_Suits  said about 5 years ago:

haha. i have two solid beat up dragsters and one of those retro bikes. sweet as.

rijididge  said about 5 years ago:

good friends of ours age and knifey are selling these

PS i think knifey is the artist famous for putting the lightning bolt up on the ac/dc lane

Goodbye_beret!  said about 5 years ago:

DAMN! Riji beat me to it. Might go into that shop one day.

goldfoot  said about 5 years ago:

Knifey builds lowriders NOT cruisers.

Goodbye_beret!  said about 5 years ago:

Please enlighten me to the difference.

goldfoot  said about 5 years ago:

Lowrider

Cruiser

Goodbye_beret!  said about 5 years ago:

I see. Surely you could flog 'em side by side in the same shop if ya wanted to?

tadatadatada  said about 5 years ago:

i think the bike store in QV has electra's or similar.
there's also a dude somewhere who's importing brand new classic indian bikes approx. $400, now there's a sweet ride.

The_Suits  said about 5 years ago:

sorry to threadjake, but does anyone know where i can buy a bike rickshaw? i've wanted one for years and can't find any.

Goodbye_beret!  said about 5 years ago:

china?

Springolator  said about 5 years ago:

There's a really nice red cruiser at that bike shop on Brunswick St (a couple of blocks away from Alexandra Parade). They want $399 for it though and it's got a few huge scratches on it.

The_Suits  said about 5 years ago:

those bastards at customs reckon it'd be an import though (pfft, can't understand why!) and would make me pay import tax... plus it would cost a little under 1 billion dollars to pack and ship.

Goodbye_beret!  said about 5 years ago:

I reckon they'd throw in a guy to drive it for you as well at no extra charge.

Build one yourself Suit boy. Are you handy with a welder?

I've just fixed up an old Malvern Star 2-Star bike to ride to the pub on.

This only has a coaster break, but apart from repositioning the cranks at lights (as untold) mentions it's really fun to ride. You just have to remember to come to a halt with the right pedal in an 'up' position. Not that hard.

untold/animals  said about 2 years ago:

It's usually the other way around for me - left pedal up so it doesn't risk getting caught on curbs when I'm rolling past taxis that are too close to the footpath/into the bike lane. It's not a huge thing but sometimes it's really important to be able to reposition the cranks without accelerating.

LaxCharisma  said about 2 years ago:

I really want to get a retro kinda bike but with 3-speed or something....I don't know much about bikes. I've just seen one I like but it's single speed and I want at least 3.

Gazelle

Shwinn

Kronan

LaxCharisma  said about 2 years ago:

Amazingly NONE of those are like the ones I've seen that I like...the frame is kind of fat at one end and goes back to a skinnier point...ummm....I should just ask someone riding one what they are called. They aren't plastered with a name or anything. Really simple looking bike, Nice.

anyone know where I can buy a good tricycle in Melbourne?

FrankieTeardrop  said about 6 months ago:

I'm currently working on my latest retro bike rebuild - a late 1960s Malvern Star Skidstar clone. It's going pretty well, but the wheels are a bit fucked (despite appearances to the contrary).

Does anyone here have a 27'' front wheel they want to sell?

I'd also be keen on a 27'' back wheel with coaster brake, as shown in the picture. It's easier to replace than try to fix these buggers.

Some of these are still applicable today, regardless of gender. Particularly the snark about cultivating a bicycle face.
