HOLLYWOOD actress Kate Hudson and her rocker husband Chris Robinson have separated after six years of marriage, a spokesman for the actress said today.

Publicist Brad Cafarelli confirmed that Hudson, 27, and Robinson, 39, had split.

He offered no details.

The couple, who were married on New Year's Eve in 2000, have a 2-year-old son, Ryder.

A spokesman for Robinson said he had no comment on news of the separation, which was first reported by People magazine on its website.

Hudson, the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn, became a star in her own right after playing the rock groupie Penny Lane in the 2000 film Almost Famous, which earned her an Academy Award nomination.

Australians saw her most recently at the Paramatta red carpet premiere of You, Me And Dupree in Sydney's west.

Robinson is lead singer for the Black Crowes, best known for such hits as Hard to Handle and She Talks to Angels.

Yeah that was what got me onto the Crowes again.

This means that I'm in with a chance.

I loved the gig. There were some odd choices in the set and it did go through a little lag somewhere in the middle. But overall I was very happy.

Daughters/Remedy/Jealous Again back to back was the highlight of the night for mine.

Despite my dislike for some of those albums they released before their hiatus, I still think they are the coolest band on the planet. It was like I was in 1972 watching someone like Little Feat play. Although the merch probably would have been cheaper in '72.

I'm so glad I own some Black Crowes cigarette rolling paper now. That should fill some of the void in my life for at least a few weeks.

I never rated By Your Side. Lions I couldn't stand. Too much rock and not enough roll.

Southern Harmony is their masterpiece.

I love Lions and By your side.

I think Amorica and the new one are my favourites.

I even like Chris' solo records.
