My sister recently returned from Phuket, where they became good friends with some locals there, who owned a tailor's shop. They told them their story of seeing the tsunami coming in, walking over to the beach, hearing the roar of the wave coming in, running, trying to start their moped.. getting knocked out. My sister said that as they were telling their story, she could see goosebumps coming up all over their body.
I don't know why, it sounds so much freakier when you hear these stories via real word of mouth, rather than just on t.v...

i survived
Were you there, or are you just taking the piss?
These guys that owned the shop said that when they returned days later, they had to remove 6 dead bodies from their shop.. not just normal dead bodies, they said they were bloated up to the size of elephants.. they're still having nightmares about it.
One of them said that when he saw the tide go out, he knew that danger was imminent, but it was just such a bizarre sight he felt compelled to go closer to the beach to look at it... :-(
i had a friend in sri lanka during the tsunami. now hes gone back to sri lanka for his honeymoon and civil war has broken out! when he went to the US terrorists flew planes into the world trade center. this guy is a trouble magnet no shit
One of my best friends bandmates died there...
I've seen a tsunami, a little one, when I was in Hawaii. Pretty scary
no i wasn't taking a piss. i was running
probably a wise move
you could have done both at the same time, but that can also be a bit hazardous
or i could have fought off the wave with piss power ala manga cartoons
Seamonkey - where were you? Come on. Stories. Providing it won't put you back into therapy for 18 months, that is...
I don't know anyone Tsunami related, but I did go to school with a girl who lost her younger brother in the Bali bombings.
I went to a party at her place once, he would have been about 8 years old then, and he was a really sweet little kid. His name was Gerard.
It was a fucking shame.

marrickville i think.
I know 25,000 people that died in it
They weren't really close friends though
Also, one of my friends called his ex 'Tsunami' because of her ejaculatory habits
I am so glad I don't do that. I think it's really gross. Though I've known a few guys that think it's hot.
defers to other thread I just started on that "sticky subject".. actually it's not meant to be sticky at all, is it?

waves get to 20 metres in hawaii and people surf them.
How 'little' was it?
Tsunami waves are very different from surf waves.
They're like a really fast incoming tide that doesn't stop when it hits the shore.
I was 7, so I dont' remember very well, but I remember the water going out first before the wave hit. We saw it from our hotel.
Yes, apparently it wasn't the height of the tsunami that did the damage, it was the speed it came in at... plus all the debris and crap in the water that basically turned the flooding into a human blender.
In Phuket, these guys were saying it was the wooden deckchairs that were lined up all along Patong Beach.. now wooden deckchairs are banned, only plastic are allowed. I think the wooden ones knocked people out and they drowned..
I read an interview in National Geographic about some scuba divers who were diving in the area that was hit near The Maldives at the time.
Fucking amazing read, it was.
They literally went from feeling weightless, to feeling "pressure", looked up and saw quite a bit of movement, but other than that, knew nothing until they got back to shore.
A girl I worked with died in the tsunami, her and her husband were on their honeymoon and she was pregnant with her first child. All 3 of them died. Very sad stuff.
