hey, what on earth is going on with the rob roy at the moment? i went in for a beer last week and its gross, no art on the wall, menues written on bits of paper stuck to the wall and so forth.
it was really nice after it got done up a few years ago, but since its changed hands again it seems to have lost lots of its new found atmosphere.
note to self, orange lighting and drywall isnt hot.
yeah, the atmosphere is slightly a bit off lately.
here's hoping they fix it soon.
i've been there once in the last 2 years. it was gross when i returned. what's with the wall in the front bar? what's with covering the mirror tiles behind the stage? what's with no toohey's old on tap? can i blame brad murray?
mid renovation deco is always weird.

i put this to him on the old mess and noise (oh the memories) and he didn't answer me.
it seems like they've been 'mid-renovation' for about 6 months though, it would take two days to paint the walls in the front room and get stuff back on the wall, instead they seem to have been fucking round with it for ages and turning formerly regular patrons, well, me and my friends, away from going there for a quiet brew.
they're aware that it sucks a bit, i'm guessing.

Yeah it seems like the venue is run by lazy owners who cant be bothered finishing the renovations. However there are a few decent bands playing there soon. The GoYouHuskies launch is one i'm looking forward to.
the lazy owners should thank their lucky stars that they have loyal patrons, if this kind of shit keeps up the rob roy will revert to its former incarnation.
not that there was anything wrong with it, but just walking in there and getting threatened by the locals from the commision flats for being in their pub isnt my ideal night out.

Mirror walls on stages reflecting obnoxious top end guitar and cymbal frequencies that make people leave gigs to save their hearing might be the reoson. The mirrors were a stupid idea sound wise.

Yes, we have been "mid renno" for around 6 to 8 weeks (not 6 months), and yes it does suck...it does look shit, I am very aware of that. There have been issues with the people who are meant to paint the pub...I can't go into anymore details than that, but it will be done soon!
The curtain behind the stage - this was put in to help with both FOH and onstage sound - the mirrors are still behind it (I love the mirrors) - and it will become an optional thing, i.e bands can pull the curtain across, or not (if they want the mirrors behind them) - this is because its about 50/50 with bands who love the mirrors and bands who tell us they'd prefer a curtain to improve the sound, and we want to accomodate everyone.
And to the lovely Soula, who has always hated me (even though I have no fucking clues who she is...?) - the Rob Roy hasn't had Tooheys Old for two years now, and on top of that, we are a CUB hotel - have been all year.
I love the rob roy. Seen some of my fave all time gigs there over the years. May it quickly return to its former glory!
