The Neil Young Thread

medicineman  said about 2 years ago  or at  7:26PM on Tuesday, June 20 2006.

This is a thread for appreciation, it is a thread for news, a thread for reviews.. whatever - if it is neil young you are looking for then let this thread be a home away from home....

another in my never ending quest to fashion a corner of M&N for me :)

But yeah - anyone heard any news regarding archives?

A man went to a Costume Party with nothing but a young woman on his back. "So what the hell are you supposed to be?" the host asked. "I'm a snail." The man replied. "What a load of crap!" the host spat. "How can you be a snail when all you've got is that young woman on your back?" "You've got it wrong, mate," the fellow replied. "That's Michelle".

Hahahaha pisser maate

I think that Living with War has put the Acrhives back til November time, but you know what Neil's like, he never does what's expected, so its just as likely to be released on Monday...

I've ordered the DVD of Heart of Gold, £15 inc postage, from playusa.com

I'll never forget the night I went hunting through old cupboards and drawers and came upon 'Mirrorball'-my sister and mother had gotten it at some gig and had use for it so shoved it into darkness, and then I came upon it.

Around that time, a few months later, I saw 'Deadman' for the first time....And then they played a special with Neil and Crazy Horseon TV and the first song was 'Hey hey, my my' and they had this massive metal ferris wheel spinning in the back ground, with a carnival kind of tinkling tune going to the leading riff of the song....

It all started from there!

ProDelgado  said about 2 years ago:

I love Dead Man so much.

My primer for Neil was "After the goldrush"...I'd liked the solo Bernard Butler album, and frequently came across reviews that mentioned him as something of a modern day Neil Young...both in guitar playing and vocals, I was in my local library, and that was the first Neil Young album I borrowed...listened to that, thought it was fucking great. I think from there I went onto "Tonight's the night", then "Harvest", before "Everybody knows this is nowhere". Classics, the lot of them.

williammiller  said about 2 years ago:

I caught rust never sleeps on tv and my mind proceeded to be blown.

medicineman  said about 2 years ago:

i joined a band where the dude was a huge Neil Fan (well a fan of the harvest like stuff)... so I bought Decade to find out what he was talking about. fucking hell. it was a slippery slope from then on....

ProDelgado  said about 2 years ago:

I think that the one track that really swung it for me was "Tell me why"..can't explain it, but that day I first stuck the album on, that was just totally the right song at the right time.

Barman  said about 2 years ago:

Neil is best when taken in cojunction with intense volume and fiery lead guitar. I think the latest effort is ordinary and I hated Greenfield (or whatever the fuck it was called).

ProDelgado  said about 2 years ago:

I downloaded "Celebration at Big Sur" DVD the other day, fucking great version of "Sea of madness" by CSNY, it's one of those tracks that I wish Neil had officially released. I've got a couple of live versions of it, plus a rehearsal version, but it's such a cracker.

Some kind soul has uploaded it to YouTube too;

http://youtube.com/watch?v=tGlTEDpERoo&search=sea%20of%20madness

Whaddya reckon, Angelic? I love that hairy hippy in blue, he's so far gone.

ProDelgado  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah, soz dude, still ain't got round to it...i can post a pic of the package sitting next to my monitor if you want? Heh. I've got a few things to post, so i'll try to take 'em into town on thursday.

That vid should still be manageable on dialup, click the link, then when the video tries to play click on pause, then carry on yr net usage...click Play in 15/20 minutes or so and the whole thing should have loaded, so it won't be all jerky...

ProDelgado  said about 2 years ago:

Excellent!

Sound quality goes off a bit in places, but hey, it's late 60s, for something that's nearly 40yr old we can let them off...

medicineman  said about 2 years ago:

Off Time Fades Away, he's been playing:

Journey Through The Past, Love In Mind and Time Fades Away. Not all at the same show though.

medicineman  said 13 days ago:

if only he would play Don't Be Denied!

just purchased the Deja Vu film from earlier this year on DVD and hope to get a chance to watch it on the weekend.

bigdaddykane  said 13 days ago:

is it in all good video libraries?

LaxCharisma  said 13 days ago:

Wouldn't mind seeing that one. In the meantime I think I'll rewatch ''Year Of The Horse''.

bigdaddykane  said 9 days ago:

yr stealing my thunder, god.

moke  said 9 days ago:

Wow, I'll be sending that link home to investigate. (Stupid work internet policy.....)

I've been watching Year of the Horse too over the weekend and listening lots to Live Rust. Fuck, I'm getting excited and it's not even January yet!

LaxCharisma  said 9 days ago:

Yeah...happy about ''For THe Turnstiles'' and 'Cowgirls In The Sand'' but if he decides to bust out ''Ambulance Blues'' or ''Motion Pictures''. I WILL lose my shit.

medicineman  said 8 days ago:

watched Deja Vu over the weekend - it's very good in places... and quite mediocre in places.... the section of the tour where they play atlanta and half the audience walsk out when they start Let's Impeach The President is good though.

littlesmoke  said 8 days ago:

I didn't get a ticket.....am now kicking myself.

littlesmoke  said 7 days ago:

I've decided that not buying tickets to see Neil was perhaps one of the biggest mistakes I've made in my life. If for ANY reason one of you with a ticket can't go, please consider selling it on to me. I'd love you forever.....& I've got a lot of love to give.

moke  said 7 days ago:

I'm sure someone told me it hadn't sold out in Melbourne the other day, on the grass obviously.

littlesmoke  said 7 days ago:

oooooh...I thought it had, I'll check. Thanks moke!

littlesmoke  said 7 days ago:

No such luck, all gone. :-(

moke  said 2 days ago:

Nothing like listening to ''Ragged Glory'' way too loud! I love Neil.

heath-dan  said 2 days ago:

I'm going to say WELD is my favourite. The Ragged Glory material is just all killer. I'm a much bigger fan of rock and roll Neil than his other side (which I do understand and love as well but nowhere near as much).

littlesmoke  said 2 days ago:

I have a ticket!!!!! Thanks cerealgirl...you are my hero.

Ben  said 2 days ago:

I want a ticket... is it sold out yet?

Ben  said 2 days ago:

so yeah...anyway.. I want a ticket. Anyone wanting to offload... let me know

moke  said 2 days ago:

Weld is pretty good, although I just got kind of bored during ''Blowin' In The Wind. I love Greendale. I'm really looking forward to giving that another listen soon.
