I have heard people rave about Moleskines, and am considering buying one as I find them to be quite visually pleasing and will no doubt enjoy scribbling all sorts of thoughts and reminders into them.
Do any of you have one? Good (or bad) words on the product? Worth the $32 opposed to a $6 thing from the newsagents? Do share.

They are nice, but the lines are a little too close together. I end up ignoring them since I can't write small.
I have several, all of them bought for me as presents.
I think they are pretty but over-rated.
To be honest, my Moleskine diary is no better than the $4 one I got last year from some random newsagent.
But I do love it because of who bought it for me.
I agree, they are over-rated. I do the $6 thing.
I have one. They're real nice. Dunno about being worth $32, But I also got given mine as a gift.
A girlfriend bought me one ages ago after raving about them so I could do my drawings and cartoons in. Never used it.
The advantage of a moleskine would be that they make them with quality acid-free paper. So when you're dead and famous in 70-80 years time, someone may still be able to read it.
Is that only in the little ones? I was thinking of getting the larger one because my writing is quite big..
Dunno.
Regardless, you should see one for yourself; they are high-quality and do feel very nice.
I keep thinking this thread is about the dairy of adrian mole.
diary
It's not.
sorry. the other thing was I kept thinking about those moleskin trousers, but I guess that has no relevance either.
It seems like a nice little thing to have. I just carry ordinary-looking lined notepad in my bag for doodles, thoughts, scribbles, reminders, etc but these Moleskine things look much better.
excuse my ignorance, but what are moleskin trousers??
I've never heard that term before.
Well done casiopias, you've talked your way into relevance! Nicely done.
i have a pile of the small ones. they take up no space whatsoever, which i like.
and the paper is really nice. i almost feel bad writing stupid shit - like reminders and shopping lists - in them...
i bought one a while ago. about $25 from a coolsie bookstore on brunswick street. it works and looks nice. i used to buy the cheap spirax note pads, but there was too much temptation to stream shit on them. i can never use that stuff later, so i decided if i was writing in something a bit dearer i might actually think before i wrote in it. this has sort of worked.
mmm, imagines wrapping a notebook computer in moleskin. why not?
I use the little ones for everyday lists and stuff, and the thicker ones for musings (though yeah, I feel bad writing in them sometimes).
three years ago I wanted to switch from filofax style diary to moleskine mid-year but they'd all sold out so I fashioned my own with a blank moleskine. I've had week-to-a-page moleskine for a diary ever since... I have a bright red one ready for next year - YAY!
oh, and DASFFS
i have one given by my partner.
it's nice but not $26 nice.
They have lots of diff format... i'm sure they have another liner one with wider space
you can even get one with grand staff!
I prefer the diary
Poor little moles!
This is pretty cool.
the pocket's are pretty useful
oops, I searched but only 'moleskine notebook'.
And Frankie - That little moley is the most precious thing ever!!!
I swear by using thin Moleskine notebooks for uni notes. Sure, its an added expense, but I really like the quality of the paper etc. I think it allows me to make much better notes. Thats just my two cents. I want to get a big one to write random stuff in, but as I don't use diaries anyway I'll never need a diary.
This one is the best!
i have a italian deer skin note book,,,, does that count
Nice blog
that blog has really inspired me... there is some beautiful stuff on there.
I have so many moleskins. I've found the best are the small, thin books you can get in packs of 3 for about $10. They are just small notebooks but they're really good to scribble in....
this is pretty cool -- http://www.engraveyourbook.com/
custom laser burnt notebook covers
That blog is sooooo awesome. Shame all I fill mine with is notes on East Asian foreign policy. :(
moleskins aren't as cool as rebound books...
i shopped online at notemaker.com.au .... the ones i wanted were discounted and there was no postage charge. i couldn't live without my yearly diary with notebook in the extra large size... have had one each year now for 3 years.
are you a robot?
Moleskines feel good in the pocket, have nice binding and good quality paper, are good to write on in a moving train and stand up well against every day wear and tear such as coffee stains and being lost on the bottom of a drawer for six months. They are superior to your typical spiral-bound notebook in every way. I love 'em.
The only thing I hate about 'em is the people who thinking owning one gives them Magical Ernest Hemmingway Powers.
I recently bought a small one for work. It's really handy and sturdy, and certainly has a number of benefits over the cheap ones, which I always lose because they seem really disposable.
The only problem is, like others, I feel guilty writing in them.
