Just heard they've just finished a new album of original material.
Should be top notch as always.
out soonish I think....
I'm pretty sure Mark Kozelek can't write a bad song.
Oooh. I look forward to this.
Unlike most people, I prefer Ghosts of the Great Highway to any Red House Painters stuff i've heard.
excellent news :)
yeah, I think ghosts of the great highway is the best thing he's ever done.... and redhouse painters stuff is awesome... the tiny cities album was pretty good, but his originals are better.
I can't wait! Ghosts of The Great Highway is definitely equal to some of the better Red House Painters stuff. Carry Me Ohio is jaw-dropping beautiful. I've listened to that song for days and not tired of it.
Can someone upload the 6 song bonus disc from the re-issue of GOTGH please?
You can listen to a track from the new album here
He seems to have a solo album coming out the same day.
have you got the 4lp box set blake? ...so soooo pretty! i'm looking fwd to the retribution gospel choir release...it's about time they put something out officially!
Yep, I got the box set. Extravagant and awesome.
you sure you're not getting a possible solo album confused with his lyrics book? that comes out the same day as skm ...more importantly it's coming out on the very awesome lamano press ...zac sally's (formerly of low) publishing house!
i pre-ordered that box but still missed out on the ltd white editions.... apparently a super ltd 25 copies were printed on red/green/black wax.
oh dear i want that box so badly.
has that not come out yet? If not it's been a long time coming
I saw one of these go o ebay for something like $250.
I missed out on the white press too.
Thought this was a thread about another Tom Cruise kid.
song of forthcoming album

i like the new song
Will Oldham to guest on two tracks on the new album
AWESOME.
having this album would be perfect right now
This is definitely what i'm most excited about as far as new releases go.
COols...., Hurry up April.
They're coming in about a month. Sweet! Haven't seen MK since I think '96, RHP @ Great American Music Hall, S.F. Sweet! Sweet! Sweet!

Most of it is good but i'm so sick of his mid-paced songs that feature 6 minutes of electric guitar noodling and generic palm-muted riffs. there was none of that on Ghosts... which made it much better than the later RHP albums.
the sydney show better bloody not have ...
Nope, neither night has although first night is ''selling fast'' according to the website.
nah, i pretty much live for the guitar noodling
I like the noodles. Would be nice if there was something to break it up a little though.
= sold 16 tix, please buy more. please.
I would imagine the first night probably is selling at a reasonable rate. It's a Saturday night, the second night is a Sunday. First one would probably preferable to most.
like what - a sax solo? a moog break?
A song with a slighty faster pace. Like Lily and Parrots from GOTGH.
Got my tix for the Factory in Enmore, looking forward to this. How much back catalog is he expected to play? I love about 2/3 of April, and like the rest of it. Lost Verses, Moorestown and Tonight In Bilbao are perfect.
I've decided that if Moorestown from the new album could be made flesh I'd marry it.
swoontastic.
who is supporting in Sydney?
Getting pretty excited about his concerts this weekend in Melbourne. Good interview in today's EG
There was also another interview in Inpress magazine...can't find it online.
bump - only a few hours to go...
As Mark said in the interview he gave to The Age, his concerts on his first trip to Australia were pretty bad and I have to concur. I saw them and they were atrocious, one of the worst concerts I have ever seen. Last night was different. An intimate crowd of about 100 people (after Saturday nights show was apparantly sold out) and he was in fine form. There was room to move so I just stood up and swayed to his beautiful music. I have been listening to his songs for years so to hear them live with Mark standing 5 metres from me was quite special. I met him before the show at the CD booth and picked up a couple of his more obscure CDs. ''7 Songs Belfast'' and ''Little Drummer Boy.'' I told him how much I loved GOTGH and how my wife and I had listened to it pretty much every week since I picked it up a few years ago. He was very nice and gave me a freebie of the double one. (I only had the original without the live side 2.) I can't help but think a little arrogantly that me telling him how much GOTGH meant to us swayed him to play a few more songs from that incredible cd.
shit - are there any other oz shows left? i'd love that live in belfast disc and will reimburse anyone who can grab one for me!
apart from a couple of spins of april, i never really got into any of mark's work. as with most people here, i had a bit of trouble getting through the shows. i had a little episode in the car afterward... unrelated. car didn't start.
anyway, since then, i've gone through and discovered little bits of the back catalog, and as you all know, this is some of the most amazing, beautiful music. i felt it when i was seeing the shows, but it didn't fully hit me until later... it's like i got slipped a drug and i'm just feeling the effects now. great stuff.
Combine his best work into one album and you've got one of the best albums ever.
I wouldn't remove a song off Ghosts....A brilliant flowing album that will still be played in 20 years from now.
