After the break up of The Muddy Spurs at the end of 2006, Jane Dust wandered around the house for a while, kicking things that moved and pushing things that didn't. When the everyday hum drum of mental cognisance failed to provide the necessary epiphany that would guide her musical future, she walked to a stream, bounced a coupla stones across its surface, cried a solitary tear, looked deep within herself, and watched the day disappear. Utterly disheartened that the cliche had provided no clue as to her musical future, she shook her fists at the disappearing sun and belowed, 'Why me?'. Then from somewhere, from beyond the ether, from the stinking bowels of the universe came the response: why not me? There was her answer: the initial question in the negative form. A spray of red from the deep....the VERY DEEP eh?
Jane can barely remember that day at the stream but she can remember how to sing and play the guitar. Most of her lyrics concern sprays of red from the deep, counting dogs, mulling things over and walking around in circles. She plays the acoustic guitar, sings like a songfish and can make you cry if you are already partially upset about something else. She is that full on. In the middle of the year, she recorded her debut full length album 'A Spray of Red from the Deep' with Dave Graney and Clare Moore at The Ponderosa. Playing with those hard-core cats was tough; for one they didn't let her use their toilet because it had all of their gold records in it. But once all the body function issues were sorted - they provided her with a pushbike to get to the loos at the local supermarket - the end results speak for themselves. Ten perfectly crafted songs that will such you into a vortex of red wine tsunamis, long legged cowboys and suffocating Spaniards.

'' a vortex of red wine tsnamis, long legged cowboys and suffocating Spaniards' indeed.
I very much like the second track on her myspace, hills are higher...can't read the rest of the title.
nice.
She has a good photo on her Myspace at least...
