what does it all mean!?!

willus  said about 2 years ago:

uh oh. that's what i means...

outerspacextrapnel  said about 2 years ago:

The new owners said it would undergo ''significant changes'' once the lease ran out.

liamsnice  said about 2 years ago:

the tote closing would be devasting for melbourne

cheezel  said about 2 years ago:

but great for the old bar!!

paulie  said about 2 years ago:

so there's two years left for the tote as we know it?

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

After they just put new carpet on the stage? That was significant change enough for my liking. What do they think this is, Crown Fucking Casino?

liamsnice  said about 2 years ago:

and this weekend sees the end of the robroy

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

Excellent! Liam's plan to take over Fitzroy is working out well....

Nah, seriously...this sucks pus!

willus  said about 2 years ago:

melbourne is a very small place guys. but its always had its charms.

take away the tote and melbourne starts looking like a barren country town. if i were you i'd start doing whatever it took to ensure this doesn't happen.

andyr  said about 2 years ago:

This might sound dumb, but what is a freehold?

cheezel  said about 2 years ago:

willus-good point but what are you gunna do?

sit on ya fat arse!?!

nishiki  said about 2 years ago:

as i understand it andy, it's the real ownership of the land, as opposed to, say, a leasehold.

i don't like the sound of this. we fear change.

liamsnice  said about 2 years ago:

the landlord sold the building.

mswahili  said about 2 years ago:

This is genuinely frightening. I really can't imagine Melbourne without the Tote - it's always been there!

FrankieTeardrop  said about 2 years ago:

I fucken deposited most of my cash and braincells at The Tote. I reckon I could half own that pub by now if I'd payed it all in a lump sum.

pagey  said about 2 years ago:

i'm gonna cry if i never get to pass out on the sticky carpets of the tote again.

paulie  said about 2 years ago:

i reckon you'd have a bit of trouble making a profitable start-up hospo business on that site if you had the regular tote patrons off-side. new businesses in this area always struggle to get a foothold.

so, the options are, either keep it as it is with minor changes, or bulldoze for flats or whatever.

willus  said about 2 years ago:

cheezel - not much, sorry, i live in london

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

I dunno.

Considering the current owners had no plans at all to keep the Tote open beyond the end of their lease, and now it's up for sale to a buyer who can potentially see the benefits of keeping it as is (or even improving it), I don't see what the fuss is about.

We've gone from being pretty positive it was closing in October, to not knowing at all.

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

My post no show up....

in summary:

Current owners: Tote is closed in 8 months

New owners: ???????????

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

Danny: Fix this fucken shit.

anonymous  said about 1 year ago:

maths is usually my strong point. i'm a retard today. 4 hours sleep will do that to a girl.

anyways, global financial crisis = not a lot of spare money for redevelopments = investors desperate for an ongoing income from rents?

Modi  said about 1 year ago:

That and the cost of fixing all that's wrong with the actual building, de.foxus

reidthemighty  said about 1 year ago:

Why don't you all pitch in and buy the tote and have little m+n babies.

bamesjaker  said about 1 year ago:

The new owners should return it back into a hay and corn store, like it was originally 150 years ago.

KillerQueen  said about 1 year ago:

I'd be in for that... minus the babies part.. :/
