please tell me where you live, and what the advantages/disadvantages of living there are.
i've lived in victoria for most of my life on and off, but some areas of melbourne still leave me perplexed.
places like reservoir, watsonia (except for knowing it takes 13 hour on public transport from st kilda - thanks klinger), wantirna... i don't really even know where they are.
this is not a competition. but where should i live - other than richmond?
North Richmond
fitzroy. it's snobby without being 'nice', pricey without being worth it, grotty without being charming, and filled with people from the suburbs.
i'm hearing good things about Preston at the moment.
buying-wise that is, not renting-wise
thornbury. gods country.
Funswick!
because it's fun, there are lots and lots and lots of great places to eat, you'll get a small yard, heaps of public transport, parks, some fine drinking establishments...
yeah danz, preston and footscray are my tips for the future. looking... finding things close to pt is harder though.
The Preston Hotel is the entertainment hub of Melbourne !
hahaha! when you fins yourself there at stupid o'clock in the morning after accidently catching an unknown tram, i'm sure it's tops!
hey what happens in maidstone? how long does it take to get into town?
buy in yarraville or somewhere around there and in 50 years you'll be rich! Rich I tells ya!
Preston's actually really good for public transport, if you look at the right parts.
you already need to be fairly rich to live in yarravilee tangz! i'm looking there though also.
when i finally decide and have the cash ready, i figure i only need to live in it for a year before renting it to someone - that way i still get the home owners grant, then i can move on.
I live in Sunshine North now, with a lot of time spent at my boyfriend's in North Fitzroy.
Scumshine isn't as bad as I initially assumed. It's not a new suburb, so the roads make sense, there's real public transport (train to the city is only 25 mins), and there are small shopping strips scattered all over the place, instead of just one big monolithic shopping centre. There is very little in the way of McMansions and there seems to be some sort of sense of community.
All that said, North Fitzroy is so fucking much better that I cannot put it into words.
in places like sunshine/frankston/carrum downs though, i fear the stigma may be with them always, which doesn't allow for investment growth as well as other areas. that's why i think i may spend a little more initially to buy in a booming area, which will earn more investment money long term.
man, it's like a science.
Montmorency.
Less drunks than Greensborough, less hippies than Eltham.
dandy, good thing: close to my Kung Fu school, Bad thing: too much Brunswick is awesome. especially if you can access tram 55.
i lvoe that people are selling their suburbs to me by pm too! that's true suburb loyalty.
when i finally decide and have the cash ready, i figure i only need to live in it for a year before renting it to someone - that way i still get the home owners grant, then i can move on.
you can get the home owners grant if you live in it for jsut six months, but you'd wanna live in it for 12 so that you don't have any capital gains tax issues after you turn it into an investment property and go to sell it down the track.
yes yes, entirely what i meant blake. just too many words.
blake can you schedule a time each day with me for the new 18 months or so, so we can talk real estate? thanks.

I've just notice that woman's stomach sticks out below her shirt...bet she won't be pleased that the Herald chose that pic.
sweet muffin top
i'm moving to Geelong.....maybe.
Spending my last few nights in Wantirna tonight, Soon to be resident of East Brunswick, Looking forward to having inspiration to write music again. I witnessed a bogan today doing about 140kph on my street as I walked to the milk bar. See u later burbs..........
Balwyn has the best pubs.
man, williamstown is boring. I miss the inner-mid north.
Watsonia ain't so bad, I lived there for 6 years. I loved it! Got drunk lots. :)
I'm living in Ivanhoe now, its okay. I miss the familiarity of East Melbourne.
East Melb was good, I had shit housemates, but apart from that I enjoyed it there.
I still want to live in Fitzroy, East Brunswick, Carlton, Collingwood, or Parkville.
I just spotted coolsies in the inner west. I feel confused.
i lived in either north fitzroy, northcote or brunswick for over 12 years, then moved to st kilda last year. i like being near the bay, im a block from the ocean now. sure its not a beach, but its ok to jump into for a quick dip, and theres sand and stuff. i do miss the labor in vain, and fitzroy street on a friday night still spooks me, but all in all, im glad i made the move.
hahaha.
you'll last 2 years, tops.
(experience tells me)
I do still like st kilda but secret life of us us spoiled it.
maybe just one us
haven't the cool kids pushing west for a few years now pops?
it was dead long before that...
anok, I have never seen coolsies in my hood!!!! apart from when you came over once.
the west will never take off. the east...well, lets not even talk about that. its always only ever been a north/south thing. too many fucksticks moved north. i think they must have migrated when st kilda supposedly 'died'. nowdays (apart from the eastern suburban fuckwits that engulf us on friday/sat nights) st kilda is a cruisy place to live. its beautiful during the day. nightlife...not so good, but hey, im gettin old anyways.
Oh it will. Have you seen how many yuppies now live in Ascot Vale, Maribyrnong and Footscray? When I was a kid, Maribyrnong was mostly working class. I suspect Footscray will become a little like Collingwood: cool, but not entirely gentrified.
It's all about the LREI (lesbian real estate index). Coolsie-ism takes off approx 5 years after the lesbeens arrive with their dogs and coffee.
look at yarraville/seddon. and footscray is just next door.
in another 20 years it'll all be dead and all the kids and there bands will be playing in Glen Waverley again like in the 60's.
Oh please no. Anything but Glen Waverley ;)
