BRUCE RUSSELL Maximum Arousal is proud to present the only Australian solo performance for 2007 of New Zealand legend Bruce Russell!
Bruce Russell is a musician based in Lyttleton, Canterbury, New Zealand. Renowned for both his music and the label he runs, Corpus Hermeticum. Russell has spent the last 18 years refining a unique approach to musical practice which, although coming from a 'rock' background, owes much to more esoteric disciplines such as sound art, free 'noise' improvisation and electroacoustic composition. He began his musical career in Dunedin, NZ, in 1987 jointly founding The Dead C. They have gone on to record over a dozen albums for labels all over the world and have been described as ''alongside Fushitsusha, the most important rock band on the planet'' (Melody Maker). They are still largely unknown in their own country. Russell also founded pioneering New Zealand experimental label, Xpressway, which released artists such as Peter Jefferies, Alastair Galbraith, The Terminals and many others. Bruce Russell also records with improvised noise group A Handful Of Dust and as a solo artist. This is your only chance to hear this legend live!!
BRENDAN WALLS
A rare solo performance from Sydney sound artist Brendan Walls. Brendan has been active in the Australian music scene for over 10 years and has worked with Andrew Chalk, Oren Ambarchi, Greg Turkington, Mirror, Daisuke Suzuki, Rizili and many others. His albums and live shows have been known to create a dream-like motion from distant drones of vaguely defined shape towards totally disembodied sound. The question of what is creating the sounds the listener is perceiving becomes more and more oblivious in the course of listening. Not to be missed!
As an added bonus there will be a live collaboration at the end of the night featuring Bruce Russell, Brendan Walls, Oren Ambarchi & Marco Fusinato
