The Warlocks

blake3030  said about 1 year ago  or at  11:23AM on Friday, August 31 2007.

So these guys started out as a BJM wannabe band (in a good way)... then went for a bit of label coerced commercial success and failed. Haven't heard from them since.

Then I stumbled across their new album last night and it is unexpectedly cool. It’s slow, moody and atmospheric and a total ‘fuck you’ to the label forced mediocrity of the last album. Not in an aggressive way or anything, but in that it’s probably the least commercial thing they could have possibly done. Bobby must have been seriously bummed out over the past few years.

A nice return to form in my opinion. This should have been the second album.

Heavy Deavy Skull Lover.

Cool album cover though.

hi mckenny

Ooh I'll have to check it out -

It was the Warlocks who had a guitarist or bassist that played on Beck's Stereopathic Soul Manure yeah?

Ohyeah  said about 1 year ago:

i have the phoenix album. it is quite good, but then again i probably haven't listened to it for about 2 years at least

PsychedelicSounds  said about 1 year ago:

1st ablum is the best.

scallywag  said about 1 year ago:

i bought two warlocks albums on spec from the bomp! catalogue.

i can't say they really did it for me... ''groovy'' space jams ain't really my thing

Scientificsupercake  said about 1 year ago:

yeah, first album is pretty damn good.

looking forward to hearing the new album though they could have tried a bit harder with the last album.. i found Surgery alittle samey at times.. but Come Save Us is brilliant.

PsychedelicSounds  said about 1 year ago:

yeah, i reckon their albums fall down a bit when they get too jammy.

it just gets boring.

still better than their ''interpol-damaged'' album.

blake3030  said about 1 year ago:

Hmmm, you might not enjoy this one so much then PsychSounds. The songs are long and repetitive. Not jammy so much, but noisy. Lots of subtle changes.

scallywag  said about 1 year ago:

they seemed a bit neither fish nor fowl to me. like, if you want heavy jams there's a lot better and lot heavier prog out there, and if it's psych you're after... well they seemed a bit light on there too.

Scientificsupercake  said about 1 year ago:

interpol-damaged?ha are you referring to Surgery? sounded a bunch like Antics (didn't they both come out at the same time..? i heard they'd been jamming together in europe before those albums came out..might have had something to do with it.)

The Preytells? I'm assuming that's not the band who used to play in Adelaide in the early to mid 1990s.

Found out mr Sonic Boom plays on Pheonix.
He's listed in the liner notes, but all I can find on the net is that he plays on
Hurricane Heart Attack. Anyone have any more info on this for me?

JunkiePhil  said about 2 months ago:

Only one who had info, was the man himself.

Hiya,

Just so you know they used a small amount of guitar feedback that I recorded - think it's on the last track. I think they wanted to use the name as they didn't use anything else that i played!

Keep us posted on your dates for UK

kinda where I want to go musically right now.

thanks Jacky_Chiles for the heads up. I'm a dosie piece sometimes.

Jacky_Chiles  said about 1 month ago:

Did anyone on here get that Myspace link about their custom made fuzz pedals? Did anyone order one? I would have bought one but I think it would have ended up costing over $300.
