Vehicle Voltron was way better.
Lion Voltron did have it's really fucked up moments though, like when they went to some planet, where the original pilot of the yellow lion was and he goes apeshit at them and says "YOU LEFT ME HERE. FOR YEARS! AND THERE'S NOTHING TO EAT HER BUT WORMS! WORMS!"
Then they end up leaving him there again. Pretty fucked up....

boogsie i remember the other way round. guess it depends how old you were and which you caught first. lion voltron ruled then left the tele, then much later the day i saw 4:30 - Voltron in the tele guide again it was one of the greatest moments in my life. it turned out to be that poxy car voltron, i was shattered and confused.

I had a one-piece die-cast car voltron as a kid. there was this one little shit who had all the cat ones. but I chewed the fuck out of the blue one so they wouldn't slot together no more.

You just have to watch one original Japanese version of Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets/EagleRiders) to realise we Engrish were ripped off, and talked down to massively by the dubbed version. That shithouse robot is not even in the original, which totally kicks arse. And the goofy kid speaks properly, and is the brains of the operation.
Aparently voltron and battle of the planets have lots of violence and transgenderism removed from the english versions. the r2d2 like robot in battle of the planets was only put in to account for the removed bits of violence and torture.
