Love the films he's done, though this thread is about him, and in particular the hilarious youtube stuff around the web:

Search Harmony Korine at YouTube and watch his David Letterman spots. I'd provide links but YT is blocked at work :(

lowercase  said about 4 years ago:

yeah they are pretty funny.

and to topit all off - despite the fact he is clearly off his head - letterman really seems to like him.

shaun  said about 4 years ago:

They're really funny, but they made me a bit sad as well.

juice_terry  said about 4 years ago:

have you guys seen Mr. Lonley?

i missed it at the film festival. I love his stuff.

midnight_caller  said about 4 years ago:

I don't think he was off his head. He was just really nervous. He's a cool guy. I'm a big fan. I missed his most recent film, anyone seen it?

shaun  said about 4 years ago:

No I haven't seen it, not sure when I'll get the chance :(. I've only seen Gummo, and Kids (which he wrote the screenplay for, Larry Clark directed). His films are hard to find, really want to see Julien Donkey Boy.

is it just a lil bit put on?

shaun  said about 4 years ago:

I'm pretty sure he was off his head in the second DL interview

midnight_caller  said about 4 years ago:

He was just ''performing''. You should check out John Stamos on Kerri Ann. That's what off your head is.

fulton girls club  said about 4 years ago:

he went on letterman three times, but the third he refused to interview him and banned him from the show cause he pushed bette midler over.

he did a series of black face photographs based on the O.J. Simpson trial with johnny depp as the other person in the photos.

this kid is great.

As he was a hardcore heroin addict at the time - i'd say it was more real than put on and he was totally off his head.
Although he does have a strange personality - I'm not sure the heroin let it shine through to much.

yeah, when he can't stop laughing in that second video he is so high I feel sorry for him

mr lonely's pretty wonderful and strange

juice_terry  said about 4 years ago:

anyone ever seen the book they talk about in the first Letterman interview?

Crackup at the race riots?

fulton girls club  said about 4 years ago:

i'm gonna try and get it from amazon, i recently learned how to order stuff from there.

But, If he was on Heroin he'd be totally doped out, not hyper.

Friends Forever  said about 4 years ago:

Don't know how new this is but it's a recent ad for Thorton's chocolate by Harmony Korine

watch here!

flobs  said about 4 years ago:

That's a trippy ad, it's great.

Used to get Thornton's treacle toffee when we were kids - best thing ever.... drools....

Friends Forever  said about 4 years ago:

I just found out Harmony put out an album called SSAB Songs which featured just a 25 minute song. Does anyone have it..or better yet could they upload it?

whale  said about 4 years ago:

gummo is aaaaaaaaaawesome

Friends Forever  said about 3 years ago:

New book is coming out next month. It collects all his zines that he's made. I would love to pre-order it now, but the dollar is horrible.

Jacky_Chiles  said about 3 years ago:

I still haven't seen Mister lonely. Have you? I was told it's really good.

Ghostface  said about 3 years ago:

Harmony talking about Ol' Dirty Bastards' death is really sad and interesting (and mesmerising at the same time)

Ghostface  said about 3 years ago:

Furthermore, I just watched that ad. Fucking wonderful

tigers  said about 3 years ago:

ooh, i didn't know this thread existed!

mister lonely is ace, i loved it.
amazing performances and just a wonderful film.
on dvd now, highly recommended.

shaun  said about 3 years ago:

Really? I've been a bit frightened to see Mister Lonely, seems like it could be reeeeally bad. Awesome soundtrack though!

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:

I didn't like it as much as Gummo or Julian Donkey Boy but I still thought it was an excellent film. It's easily the more accessible film he's made.

whale  said about 3 years ago:

i havn't seen mister lonely. what's the good news on it?

sevenatenine  said about 3 years ago:

would have made a good 15minute film.
runs out of gas real quick.
good soundtrack

TripFontaine  said about 1 year ago:

is there a screening somewhere?

alec m  said about 1 year ago:

in my bedroom

rawr  said about 1 year ago:

Who saw Trash Humpers?

I thought it was pretty funny, especially the pancake scene. Nice ending.

Could have been a lot shorter.

Hellzapoppin  said about 1 year ago:

I caught Trash Humpers, I thought it was most impressive. I do adore Korine's understanding of boredom though.

Watched Mr Lonely last night.. fuck that was beautifully shot and acted. Nice to see Herzog in the cast.

rawr  said about 1 year ago:

Nice to see Herzog in the cast.

Herzog was fantastic in Julien Donkey Boy, too.

Hellzapoppin  said about 1 year ago:

I've not seen it, to the land of torrents!

Crackup at the race riots?

I own a copy of 'Crackup At The Race Riots'. It's pretty funny. Basically a collection of bad racist/sexist/generally un-PC jokes, suicide notes and film scenarios involving various celebrities. Gratuitous and hilarious.

djbollocks  said about 1 year ago:

It is good. I had no idea that he had a new film out (and that it was screening at MIFF) I hear it supposed to be not very good but it seems each time one of his films comes out its universally panned and I still end up liking it.

alec m  said about 1 year ago:

have you heard the interview on the drag city site? i love how by the end of it the interviewer is telling listeners to not waste their money on korine's film. hilarious.

Having followed Harmony Korine forever (a guy who was a bit of a dick used to anonymously stick his poems on my door at uni c.1995 - I think he was trying to impress me) Saw Kids when it came out, bought Crack Up when it came out, loved Gummo which I ordered on vhs (downloading not invented hey!) when it came out etc... I'm pretty sure he's putting his personal side-show aspects on.
I doubt he ever really had a serious drug problem of any kind, nor that he suffers from any form of mental illness. I think he's just a dedicated culture and film nerd who likes to juxtapose a lot of his favorite nutty interests in artworks together eg: tap-dancing, blackface, death metal etc..I also can't help but think he's a bit of a scenester, moving from skateboarders and Sevigny to Herzog and Will Oldham. Still none of this means I don't find his stuff still interesting or worth a look. And I do think some of his observations on white trash and mental illness is some of the most true-to-life out there.

woolfat  said about 7 months ago:

juice, interesting that you say that. i always feel like his portrayals of minorities and subcultures are verging on patronising.

juicenewton*  said about 7 months ago:

I can see that too woolfat, well not patronising as such, but more useful to him for purely freak value, that said what he does portray is pretty spot on, so at least he shows some insight into what he's blatantly using to his own end.

national_highway_31  said about 7 months ago:

I was undecided for a long time, but now I've decided he's a wanker. I kind of like Gummo. Thought he'd done that rude song used in the overpass scene near the beginning, but later realised it was by Destroy All Monsters.

woolfat  said about 7 months ago:

yeah he is a bit of a tosser, but visually his films are stunning. that counts for something in my books.

Morris Iemma  said about 6 months ago:

Does it count for the 'visually stunning' column in your books?
