Any fans? Just got into em recently with 'A Blessing & a Curse'. Wondering where to next...

'The Dirty South'?

'Southern Rock Opera'?

columbo  said about 1 year ago:

haven't heard of 'em

what kinda vibe are they?

columbo  said about 1 year ago:

the titles sound kinda....pastoral

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

yes. awesome band. there's a live dvd i have of theirs too, somewhere.

highly recommend the dirty south, but you can't really go wrong.

JJ  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah I was thinking the Dirty South...I know that track Danko/Manuel which I love. They're a US Southern rock band, Columbo, real Skynyrd-ish. Bit of stuff here

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

new one has leaked. in gmail. called 'Brighter Than Creation's Dark'. 19 tracks.

Track by track run-down by Hood

bamesjaker  said about 1 year ago:

Is Jason Isbell featured on it, or had he left before it was recorded?

Would love to see these guys out here.

hiponion  said about 1 year ago:

he'd left.

they divvy up the vocal duties - even to shonna this time.

i quite like it.

bamesjaker  said about 1 year ago:

Look forward to hearing it.

whatwhat  said about 11 months ago:

jus' tryin' to hold steady on the righteous path!

this album is slowly winning me over, even with shonna's tracks not being entirely to my liking.

does anyone even release their records in australia? it's new west in the states, right? is that warners here?

ChrisBrimstone  said about 11 months ago:

I've heard one track of theirs. I need to listen to the rest of their albums and become completely obsessed. Everything i've heard makes them sound like one of the best bands ever

Onion liked their new album

whatwhat  said about 11 months ago:

you'll love it chris. right up yr alley. start with ''the dirty south''

whatwhat  said about 11 months ago:

what am i saying? i mean ''southern rock opera''.

bamesjaker  said about 10 months ago:

Love this album. A lot.

froginasock  said about 10 months ago:

I had a habit of listening to 'birmingham' over and over and over. What a fucking awesome song.

littlearch  said about 10 months ago:

southern rock opera is the only thing i like. i like it alot though

mark  said about 8 months ago:

There is a new album out by these guys and IMO it's excellent. Check it out - ''Brighter than creation''s dark''

mark  said about 8 months ago:

bump - no love for this great band

whatwhat  said about 8 months ago:

bits of it are good. bits are exceedingly shit.

definitely their weakest in some time.

mark  said about 8 months ago:

whawhat - IMO it's their best since Decoration Day which IMO was their best ever album.

whatwhat  said about 8 months ago:

better than ''southern rock opera''? really??

i'm not overly keen on shona's voice - she warbles, which irritates me no end - and ''bob'' is a shitful song.

and the track order is all messy for mine. too many chops and changes, with no flow.

mark  said about 8 months ago:

Yep - DD is far superior to SRO to my ears. Songs like My Sweet Annette, Outfit (one of my all time favorite songs) the title track (especially the opening guitar sequence and lyrics), Hell No I Ain't Happy, The Deeper In, Heathens, Loaded Gun in the Closet, When the pin hits the shell...and the list goes on. Just a great album all round and destined to be a classic in a number of years time.

JJ  said about 8 months ago:

Nice recent interview and session here

montyclift  said about 8 months ago:

just bought and played creations dark in the car.

and yes, as some above have pointed out, its sooooooooooo beautiful in parts. then some tongue-in-cheek country song goes and fucks with it. the 19 tracks might have been better being 12 or 14. coz some of it is fabulous. and some of it, otherwise.

and wasnt 'outift' a isbell song? i.e., the guy who aint in the band anymore?

montyclift  said about 8 months ago:

playing it again. annoying me again.

JJ  said about 6 months ago:

Doing ''Two Daughters and A Beautiful Wife'' on Conan

One of the best tracks off BTCD I reckon. The FNW on the instruments stands for Fuck New West, apparently

josejones  said about 4 months ago:

is it just me or do members of DBT sing back-up vox on the new Hold Steady record?

whatwhat  said about 4 months ago:

you ain't mistaken.

mark  said about 4 months ago:

When I saw this thread recently updated I was so hoping I would find they are touring AUS. In any event, I saw them in New York a couple of years ago. They were f---ing awesome. Lets hope they find their way down under at some point.

Fourth time lucky...Here is (hopefully) The Age link.

buddychilzelski  said about 1 month ago:

About friggin' time.

If they add Son Volt to the list I'd be very happy.

whatwhat  said about 1 month ago:

lucinda williams too. swoon....

JJ  said about 1 month ago:

playing or not? no mention of em on the poster

mark  said about 1 month ago:

They were mentioned as playing in Beat magazine today and in the Gold Coast paper of all places...but still not mentioned on the Bluesfest page.

hiponion  said about 1 month ago:

Almost certain they are playing.

STEWSTER  said about 1 month ago:

My brother gave me Southern Rock Opera and Decoration Day a while back. Haven't really listened to them. He had come over for a visit and it's all we listened too. He lives in Texas and gave me the whole history of each song and everyone they sang about and their history! It was all abit too much.

Gonna give it another go now, I'm ready.

mark  said about 1 month ago:

Check out the song ''Outfit'' from Decoration Day. Just brilliant.

STEWSTER  said about 1 month ago:

Mark, yeah good song! I'm liking Sink Hole. Thinking about getting some whisky and just drinking over summer listening to these guys.

bigdaddykane  said about 1 month ago:

These kids are alright.

mark  said about 1 month ago:

The title song from the album ''Decoration Day is also very good. Also loving their latest album. As you have probably noticed I am very much looking forward to seeing them in concert.

JJ  said 29 days ago:

Trails gone dead on being added to Bluesfest. BS I reckon man, B frickin S

mark  said 28 days ago:

Yes, looking a little worrying. That aside, I think/hope they will nicely pop into the 2nd Bluesfest announcement which will probably be early January.
