is difficult.
Just finished a session.
How long until I can feel as though I'm getting into the swing of it?
I wanna be one of those bendy people that do it with ease.
have you done yoga before? what sort are you doing?
the ''good'' answer is that your flexibility and strength will improve quite rapidly as long as you do a class at least once a week.
the ''bad'' answer is that there is ALWAYS room for improvement.
Not really. I'm not sure what type it is. It's a DVD I picked up. I felt too self-conscious to go to a class straight away.
i'd recommend doing a beginner's course in the beginning. that way you'll be doing the poses correctly and won't hurt yourself. that is hard to do on your own at home when you have no idea what you're doing.
conversely, if anyone knows of a studio in melbourne that has advanced classes, please let me know! i haven't been to a challenging enough class yet.
What sort of yoga, secretgirl?
i do anusara (doesn't seem like there's any in melb) and vinyasa, but am open to any style besides kundalini and bikram.
have you been to the ashtanga yoga centre on Argyle St in Fitzroy? i find their classes pretty challenging
Yeah, Argyle St Ashtanga is where I go. They do 2 intro classes, 1 follows on from the other. Once you know the style there are classes where everyone just works at their own level. It's a really lovely studio too.
Try the place in the city, yoga cirq in Meyers Pl just off Little Collins. They do iyengar, vinyasa, ashtanka, dynamic, pilates etc. etc.
yeah, i just tried the ashtanga place out last week. as violet said, gorgeous studio, but not quite it for me? i tend to dislike places where every single class is the same, ie formulaic. i mean there was a guy in class who did every pose before the teacher called it out. perhaps i'm shit out of luck.
where are you?
If you like Iyengar, Clifton Hill is really good and have a few advanced level classes. Or if you're out in the inner west, there's a great school in Yarraville.
I also realy enjoy Powerflow classes at Yoga Tree in Elsternwick (if you're out that way).
i would love to find a women's only yoga class. blokes in classes just gross me out. the ashtanga place is the worst for guys taking their shirts off... hello! put your shirt back on! no one wants to see your sweaty torso!
sorry. i used to go to an all womens gym in the UK, i'm just not into sweaty hairy men in my vicinity when i'm trying to be all zen n stuff.
I'm not into yoga wankers. And there's a few around.
I do Iyengar Iate bikram too, secretgirl. Used to go to Action School of Yoga but I don't think I like the vibe there. There is a good yoga school on Lygon st, Brunswick. I wear wifebeater when I do yoga
i used to do it heaps when i was younger, but haven't for about five years, then did a class last week as part of some staff development wankery.
was a bit crinkly, but surprisingly more flexible than i thought i would be after so long away, and felt amazing afterwards. i want to do a term again.
anyone know any in sydney - inner west???
i really want to do it
i have checked a few places around - however umm i would like any tips
recomendations
anything
also i am looking forward to totally embaressing myself - and i will definately NOT be taking off my shirt
Burt and 1010101 can help you out there mo.
tug, I went to Action a couple of times a few years ago and thought the vibe there was all competitiony.
Mo there is a new iyangar school opening in marrickville
thanks guys - any help and pointers would be good too
i am kinda nervous about goin haha
i have quit smoking pot (heavy daily smoker for 7 plus years) n stuff and wanted to do something that is positive good for mind and body etc
i'm in n fitzroy, so clifton hill isn't out of the question. what's the name of the place there, and the one on lygon st? i don't mind guys in classes as all, unless they're super sweaty. but even so. why should they get all the eye candy hmm? there've been some lookers in class recently.

Tae Bo ahahahahahha what a disgrace that is
Does it matter that I can't touch my toes? Is it a beginners' Beginners Course?
Most yoga caters to beginners. You'll get flexible pretty quickly.
You will be amased how stretchy you will be after one class...prolly be touching your toes by the end of it
Cool!
I'm starting yoga at my gym soon.
I can touch my toes if I stand up but if I'm sat down and reach forward I can't.
I'm getting stronger and more focussed now. I can hold a standing bow posture for over a minute. Fuck I love my Mondays and Wednesdays.
Damn it, Lucy! I was about to SMS you.
I want to try that pose, Manhattan, but I fear I'll headbutt something and concuss myself.
You should still go even if you can't find anyone to go with, anne.
I can't by myself...
Aw.
Besides, you wouldn't want to go with me.
I'd be the 'tard up the back that everyone rolls their eyes at when I get my head stuck up my arse attempting a downward dog.
SAME! That's why I can't go by myself!
I FEEL FUCKING AMAZING!
Haha. I remember that feeling.
AWWW!! I miss yoga!
I should have gone today... I knew there was something I should have done at 5pm!!
Best decision ever. I feel... AMAZING.
i started doing yoga on wii fit - and love it, though it doesnt really challenge me that much. i should so just go to one of these classes and stop being such a wuss.
it's the fucking shit, i love it. gotta head up to clifton hill soon for another term
i had my first class in 21 years last friday and I too, felt fucking amazing afterwards.
