MY DISCO LAST SHOWS BEFORE USA ALL AGES

ben  said about 1 year ago  or at  3:56PM on Wednesday, August 1 2007.

September is a busy month for us....before we do a couple of shows with the amazing Battles from New York, MY DISCO are playing a couple of all ages shows in Melbourne and Sydney as a Bon Voyage before going to Chicago, Illinois to record Album number two at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini....

MELBOURNE: SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH @ THE OLD BALLROOM, TRADES HALL (corner of Lygon and Victoria sts Melbourne City)

SYDNEY: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH @ BLACK AND BLUE WAREHOUSE, 267-271 CLEVELAND ST. REDFERN

both shows are all ages and will be around $15, a little bit more than we usually charge for our shows, but doing dedicated all ages shows in non-venue type spaces is costly! times and bands and more deets coming soon, hope to see you there.....

MD.

kabukiboy  said about 1 year ago:

hey ben - what is the extra cost involved with these warehouse type shows? curious, not critical.

anyone know this black and blue warehouse?

ben  said about 1 year ago:

$1000 PA hire $2-3per payer venue hire coupla hundred security (venue insistent not my idea / preference) diy promo

the power of 666  said about 1 year ago:

isn't all promo diy?

yeah, I was gonna ask where this Black & Blue is. Is it in lieu of Lan Franchis?

ben  said about 1 year ago:

not if someone else (ie labels etc;) is paying for it dude.

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

$1000 bucks for a PA? Is it hewn from solid platinum by Tibetan artisans?

ben  said about 1 year ago:

GOOD SOUND COSTS $$ WE LIKE GOOD SOUND.

the power of 666  said about 1 year ago:

guess so, i've never thought about someone else doing my shit I guess. Anyway, your costs, how much you charge & other financials are no ones business! Do what you need to to let you play shows.

ben  said about 1 year ago:

well said! totally agree, i guess i only included the price and overheads disclaimer to be transparent about our ideals regarding booking our own shows etc; make people aware that it can be quite a costly venture....but very worthwhile of course!!

what happened?

goldbuttons  said about 1 year ago:

Heaps of cops came, but I left before they came so I can't tell you first hand.. apparently there were like 20 of them, batons and all, and they arrested some guy who was taking photos.

Anyway the bands were grand, it was all LOUD and full of goodness

al  said about 1 year ago:

my disco had their van broken into as well..

cops were getting really agitated about people congregating around the exit to the building as they were leaving.. aggressive, confrontational.. one guy took a pic of the agro cop's badge and copped a physical request to 'remove the photo'.. ie up against the wall, now.

weird, seemed really unnecessary.. only people agitating for a fight seemed to be the cops and some drunk locals who weren't even coming from the show anyway..

kabukiboy  said about 1 year ago:

complaints have been lodged about the police behaviour....

BoysAin'tGirl  said about 1 year ago:

Fuck this city. Melbourne show was one of the events of the year.

kabukiboy  said about 1 year ago:

great review emmy. when are you going to introduce yourself!?

King_Rat  said about 1 year ago:

I'll introduce myself one day

kabukiboy  said about 1 year ago:

introduce yourselves by buying stuff from my distro :-)

King_Rat  said about 1 year ago:

I have things selling in there anyway..why oh why oh why the money perpetuates

shortrockus  said about 1 year ago:

ok why the hell were the cops there? was it because of the noise?

damn sydney-post APEC sure sucks hell.

kabukiboy  said about 1 year ago:

just cos there was a few people hanging out on the kerb after the show had finished. as my friend pointed out, if the cops hadn't arrested someone for taking photos everyone would've just left without any trouble

daveyaviator  said about 1 year ago:

The police getting touchy about being identified is really fucking unnerving

emmy hennings  said about 1 year ago:

The police are always touchy about being identified. They hate it, that's why they take their ID badges off at every single protest - not a new or APEC-related phenomenon, by any means.

And kabukiboy, eventually! I promise to say hello next time I spot you at a show.

shaun  said about 1 year ago:

you should both be at Always on thursday, or I hope so anyway.

ben  said about 1 year ago:

hey shaun, if you are coming to Bttls, lets sort the rest of the distro cash then eh?

kabukiboy  said about 1 year ago:

hey ben - no worries - if i can't scam a way in i'll meet you outside somewhere

bxckxtrxdxr  said about 1 year ago:

Nice review, emmy!

Carcultura  said about 1 year ago:

Oh by the way Ben, thanks for playing Patterns Surgical at the melbourne show, that was the fucking BEST.

Carcultura  said about 1 year ago:

..and the new AOA shirts aswell haha.

daveyaviator  said about 1 year ago:

not a new or APEC-related phenomenon, by any means.

just how old is this phenomenon I wonder? Would cops have been doing it in the 60's during civil rights marches and race riots etc.?
