Looks just like the last few Wes Anderson Movies. Could be a good thing, could be a bad thing.

WAY TO SIT ON THE FENCE BLAKE.
It's hard to tell at this stage loadie1
I like his movies, but too much of the same thing could get boring... no matter how cool Jason Schwartzman is.
it could be an ok thing.
plus the trailer seems to tell the whole story arc, which is strange
i dislike overly-informative trailers, don't you?
Co-written by Roman Coppola. Curious.
Hmm, inneresting...
i suppose it goes without saying that
i love me some butterscotch stallion !!!
Is it another story about awkward father figures, zany supporting casts and a kickass soundtrack?
If so, you've got yourself a predictably unpredictable wacky picture!
im also excited about his version of fantastic mr fox, the roald dahl novel, which begins this summer
Oh, older brother. close enough.
family tension resolved in the third act, with a kickarse soundtrack.
and pretty scenery.
Again the music is fantastic in his films.
Yeah, I saw this today on the gorilla vs. bear blog, it looks good. Well I must admit I like anything this guy does.
There's a short called Hotel Chevalier that acts as a prelude to the actual film that Anderson made in 2005 that looks fucking awesome and is available for free download, but only to Itunes US users. :( It has Schwartzman and Natatlie Portman in it, and apparently includes her first ever nude scene. I'm SOOOOO pissed I can't get it, it looks fantastic...
The NY Times review from last week by AO Scott was a great review (if not overly effusive about the film) and contains a very positive summary of Hotel Chevalier.
Well worth a read ...

Good comedy. He isn't capable of 'deep' but who cares? It always gets a bit awkward when he uses death etc. It's always something quite pornographic and exploitative. He either can't or won't treat the idea of death as organic and emotive. IE in this film where they walk to the waiting cab to ferry them to the indian boys funeral pyre = Groovy retro song and slow mo style shot of great suits? What is the death for? Surely not for that scene yet what else does he make of it? OK main characters get 'perspective' but it's a bit too cosmetic for me. Same as the drowning scene in Life Aqautic. It's there so the PLOT does something but he seems to have no concept of how to treat it. Nevertheless there was a great interplay between the three leads. Not least because it was three of Hollywoods most preeminent heartthrobs out sex symbolling each other in front of the camera. That fact really added to the brother vibe as obviously there is no resemblance between them. It does raise my recurring whinge about modern culture though; what happens to ugly people? Are we even alive anymore? Why is it only good looking people can write a tune or lead an interesting life? Where are the bogarts etc?
They're posting lengthy monologues about Wes Anderson films on mess and noise at 7am in the morning, andy...
:)
both hot. my observation was merely about the difference between her credibility in this tiny cameo, versus say her role in 'closer' where she was completely implausible as a stripper/supposedly more overtly sexual character.
i saw this on boxing day. i absolutely loved it. in fact i think it might tie with royal tenenbaums for me. i just really enjoyed it. it was prob one of the best films i have seen in a while. but then i love wes anderson.
saw this last night
fkn loved it....
don't know why i loved it... like what made me love it - but fuck it was awesome
yeah, awesome film. anything anderson does is pretty much guarateed to be amazing tho.
it just had a great feeling throughout ya know
good moods n stuff but not wack like a sophia coppola movie...
i was nearly in tears when that little indian kid died...
has noone mentioned bill murray's amazing work in this film
those looks he's giving when he's in the taxi !
haha.. ol bill Murray.. what a pointless cameo... still, gotta love him.
I am HANGING to see this film again.. can't get it out of my head. So good!
i wish him and rushmore dude had a little eyeing off and comptetition for the train
woulda been cooler
I thought the way he treated the subject of death in Rushmore was, thought not nessecarily 'deep', quite poignant and emotive..?
i think i would've liked this film a lot less if i hadn't already been sold on anderson's other films. the resolution between the characters is a lot more difficult to achieve and there's some stuff that i wish had been a bit tidier plot-wise. i otherwise enjoyed it. yeoman is a genius, as usual.
saw this again on the weekend. can't get enough of it.
i just saw this andf it had 'Hotel Chevalier' before it, score!
i thought it was a pretty good flick, the leads were all well cast and it looks sumptuous but i didn't think it delivered too much emotion. that's an opinion that might change once i see it again, but so far the description ''Wes Anderson film about Brody, Schwartzman and Wilson travelling in India'' sums it up.
It always has Hotel Chevalier before it...
Great film. Anyone know when the DVD is out?
I downloaded this on the weekend, had a flu, so it both cheered me up and also probably didnt thrill me quite as much.. It was good, okay.. If there was any depth though it went over my head, thought it pretty shallow.
Indian waitress girl was hot.. Just have to say for a straight boy I always have a massive crush on Adrien Brody.. Don't know why, just think he is great actor, and I would kill to look that suave.
well i haven't like any of his other movies - which I only saw on dvd - just too shallow and nothingish or ripping of jd salinger in the stupidest ways.
but I really liked this. It was a very hot day and i spent it at the movies.
I think the conditions were right and it could be his films are best seen at the movies.
Does this give me an excuse to paraphrase Morrissey?
''Oh, Salinger, so much to answer for''
Bah, I don't care what anyone says, I live for the day when Salinger comes out of hiding, nothing that happened (with his art and how it was interpreted) was ever his fault.. Those stories of him in the woods, still writing, with suitcases full of stories!!!
''you might sleep, but you will never dream''
Just read a book of interviews with that old curmudgeon Crumb... JD, I dont even care if you come out swinging about how much you hate your fans, Just ''please please please'' come out swinging!
So long, sweet lime.
there's a good making of doco on the dvd.
