Guitar pedals.

i) What is a good pedal that will give me a nice noisy distortion. Nothing like a gainy, metal distortion, something that will have some reverb and would be good for droney kinda stuff.

ii) What are those pedals called that just throw your amp into feedback? I used to know, but now I do not.

MattuS  said about 2 years ago:

Maybe a fuzz pedal, like a Big Muff or something.

if you want your amp to feed back, try using 2 distortion pedals, or a distortion on the dirty channel of your amp.

pinkydebaser  said about 2 years ago:

pro co rat. They are like big muffs but without the sustain. I find the distortion a little easier to control too with the rat.

WildWilly  said about 2 years ago:

a pedal for feedback ... one of these ? :

they are discontinued tho .. hard to find these days i think. just swing your guitar in front of your amp, does the same thing.

some nice noisy distortion. big muff, rat, mxr distortion +, hyper fuzz, etc etc etc, hundres of options ...altho none of these will give you "some reverb". no distortion pedal will do that. i think you might have your terminology a bit mixed up ?

Hotcake pedals from New Zealand give a beautiful bottomy full-bodied distortion without the annoying toppyness of say The Rat. Good for drone. A bit like the BigMuff, but not as crunchy.

Two distortion pedals for feedback. Yep. Try a Rat and a Boss DS1 together or even a crappy DOD fuzz pedal just for screamy volume.

I dunno. I'm not a big fan of too many pedals. Keep it simple!

MattuS  said about 2 years ago:

I think I'm gonna buy one of those Digitech Screaming Blues pedals, they are the best of that line digitech brought out in my opnion, and I tried all 5 and I own a dt Metal Master pedal.

WildWilly  said about 2 years ago:

one little known pedal that i really dig for fat distortion with a deifnate non-metal tone is the DOD attacker. they only made them for a little while, hard to find now. but they have a really interesting sound - it's a distortion and compressor in one pedal. i've misplaces mine, spewing. it's the only pedal i've ever owned that comes close to that neil young weld kinda sound. fuck i wish i could find the fucken thing.

paulie  said about 2 years ago:

I would go for either the fulltone mosfet reissue or the electro harmonix hot tubes.

hand hell  said about 2 years ago:

Who made those stupid "grunge" pedals in the 90s? Supposedly made your crappy garage band sound like Soundgarden with the touch of a button.

sting-bono  said about 2 years ago:

having been through almost a dozen distortion pedals/pods/multi-fx i gotta say the best one is the visual sound jekyll & hyde.

it has mt2 sounds. tube screamer sounds. rat sounds. so dirty yet so fresh and clean.

goingblank  said about 2 years ago:

That was DOD, I've got one! It's really gain-y, awesome for insane JAMC feedback though.

DOD. i have one sitting on the table in front of me right now!!! ( i haven't tried it yet tho - apparently it's busted)

sam  said about 2 years ago:

Do you mean like this one?

Surely there must be something wrong with it!

hand hell  said about 2 years ago:

sam, I use a turbo rat, but I reckon the original Rat pedal is superior in its sound. The turbo rat is a bit flat either way, like not that great for high or low frequencies. Good for mids though, if that's what you want..ie. I use it for strummy type playing that just needs a bit of distort on it.

paulie  said about 2 years ago:

follow my advice and ye shall find the path of richeousness..

sam  said about 2 years ago:

Ahhh, okay. Hmm...

paulie  said about 2 years ago:

check out harmony central.

hand hell  said about 2 years ago:

Electro Harmonix kick arse! I've been considering getting an Electro Harmonix Bass Balls pedal.

Ok so I'm sick of my Zvex Fuzz Factory and am about to sell my Effector 13 Truly Beautiful Disaster fuzz aswell.

I want a more smooth fuzz as opposed to a crackly fuzz if that makes sense.

Suggestions?

MattuS  said 28 days ago:

For Guitar? if you like the big muff sound have a look at Morrison effects in Tasmania, he does a clone called Big Fluff. Might be worth checking out MI Audio Neo Fuzz too, haven;t had a chance to use one myself.
Also, i probably can't afford either pedal, but feel free to tempt me with a pm.

columbo  said 28 days ago:

jimib - are you selling your fuzz factory?

jimib  said 28 days ago:

yea i will be selling both fuzz's and my df-2 but i need a replacement fuzz for gigs but selling the FF. the TBD isnt on my board at the moment

MattuS  said 28 days ago:

I had a love/hate thing going on with my TBD, but its got a permanent spot on my bass board for nasty fuzz tones, aka the aids bass!

jimib  said 28 days ago:

yea i guess after getting the TBD i only really used the effects loop and i couldnt really get a fuzz tone that was suitable for the music i was playing

jimib  said 28 days ago:

also i meant to say

i need a replacement fuzz for gigs before selling the FF

columbo  said 28 days ago:

how much do you want for the fuzz factory?

jimib  said 24 days ago:

at the moment i might be trading my fuzz factory for a keeley mod ad9 seems like a good trade?

columbo  said 23 days ago:

i've got a fuzz factory clone that i built but it doesn't self-oscillate - i'm curios to try a real one & see how different it is.

with mine i think there's some kinda voltage mismatch with the old germanium transistors...gotta track down some 'matched' ones from some decent supplier guy one day. otherwise it sounds crazy though.

MattuS  said 23 days ago:

could be alright. i recently got to use a old boss DM2 i think, analogue delay the other day, delish! but, if you aint using the fuzz factory, go for it, you should get heaps of use out of a great delay like that.

Interferon  said 23 days ago:

I have a mint condition Boss DIGITAL REVERB RV2 I'm thinking of selling and can't find much ebay info on what a fair price is.

Anyone got an idea of what it's worth?

nicko_mcbrain  said 23 days ago:

who was it on here who had a Truly Beautiful Disaster?

i totally want to fuck with one of those.

jimib  said 23 days ago:

I had the TBD nicko_mcbrain, although SGH messaged me about it, so I guess he has first dips on it, although I'm not sure if he has the money for it.

nicko_mcbrain  said 23 days ago:

jimib, i don't have the dosh either, at the mo'. may all be different in a few weeks...

PM me if SGH pikes.

jimib  said 23 days ago:

The FF was great fuzz, I mainly used it for the self oscillation for a crazy noise out solo but now I use my turbo rat and kaoss pad mini for even crazier sounds so it's not really being used too much. I've always wanted an analog delay and this one is in good condition with the box instructions etc.

Although the pic doesn't have the 2 switches on it, but are they for used for the expression pedal mod?

jimib  said 23 days ago:

cool nicko, im not desperate for cash atm, but probably be selling a few bits before xmas. whats a jap df-2 worth these days? i got mine for a reasonable price and about 3 months later ebay was flooded with the damn things

jimib  said 16 days ago:

TBD is pretty much sold, just waiting for payment. Sorry to those who showed an interest in it.

i didnt realise how desperate i am for cash as im not really working due to exams and pretty much have been replaced by someone who can work full time.

I have a co pilot fx ring mod pedal if anyone is interested pics http://www.messandnoise.com/discussions/3373046
