Indeed. I'm particularly looking forward to the PITA/SOMA night.

Rumour has it that Rehberg and O'Malley will be performing in a quartet with blastasfuck drummers Matty ''Skitz'' Sanders and Max ''AxOxA'' Kohane!

Maybe you can hassle Lawrence English or Shannon O'Neill to hook up peripheral shows for the internationals; I imagine this is all happening already, though, and Simon Hampson probably has something to do with it.

SUNDAY JULY 25 The Toff, 252 Swanston St Melbourne 8pm

Maximum Arousal & Super Deluxe Tokyo present:

HAIR STYLISTICS (Japan)
+
THE MENSTRUATION SISTERS
+
MARCO FUSINATO (LP launch)

Masaya Nakahara is one of the original purveyors and legends of Japanese noise. His musical activity under the Violent Onsen Geisha guise in the 90s made him a noise icon and he currently works under the Hair Stylistics moniker. With the glut of entry-level noisicians knocking out cassettes left right and centre, Nakahara's output has been one of the scenes saving graces. Utilising a vast array of effects and samples, Nakahara manages to create a swarming collage of active soundscapes that are rich in texture, from harsh sound shards to warm bass pulses with alot of humour to boot. The tendency toward silliness extends to his ingenious punning track titles (''Anal Collective'' and ''R.I.P Old Dirty Bath Towel'' are two recent examples) and such humour is what the whole noise scene is greatly lacking. One of his ongoing projects is the brilliantly named duo Suicidal 10cc, with Jim O'Rourke. Nakahara has also written about film and regularly organises and contributes to film festivals in Japan. As an acclaimed writer of novels he has recieved the Yukio Mishima Prize.
This guy is a legend and this is his only Melbourne performance!

This evening also features a rare one-off Melbourne appearance from the Menstruation Sisters.
''Unlike anything book or animal, the M.Sisters destroy wholly'' - Thurston Moore, Sonic Youth.
Menstruation Sisters are more of a natural phenomenon than a musical group. Owing more to the sound of ice melting and eggs hatching than strummed guitars and pounded drums, the Sisters keep one ear on the ground and the other towards the atmosphere. Rather than working within the lines of modern rhythm and structure, they revert towards a primal direction, cutting off the fat and oozing forth only the most natural and unfettered sounds. Naturally, such a technique can be unsettling, as it's not something most humans are interested to hear, or have heard since upright-walking became a viable mode of transportation. This is music for those who kill their own food.

And to top it off Marco Fusinato will be launching his new LP ‘Ambianxe’ out on Sydney label Spring Press. Featuring two live recordings of his incendiary concréte guitar crush from earlier in the year at SuperDeluxe, Tokyo. Fusinato is well known for his art/music crossover that ‘extends the traditional language of the guitar to distressed oblivion, compounding deracinated electronic detritus into over-amplified dreamweapons, unleashing tsunamis of ecstatic free noise’. Bring cash.

AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED!

@ The Corner Hotel, Swan St Richmond

Everybody Talks About The Weather II feat:
OREN AMBARCHI
+
PIVIXKI (Anthony Pateras & Max Kohane)
+
ROBIN FOX
+
MARCO FUSINATO

On the back of last year’s incredible showcase the Ambarchi/Fox/Fusinato/Pateras line up is set to deliver another astonishing feast of sound. Fusinato’s noise maelstrom has been recently refined on-stage in Japan and Pateras is fresh from a sojourn in Silicon Valley where he’s been sharpening his sonic weaponry. This time around he’s joined by legendary Agents of Abhorrence rhythm genius Max Kohane and together they are PIVIXKI. Ambarchi has been working on a 6xLP Alga Marghen release and Fox has cooked up a few new jaw-dropping tricks with smoke, mirrors and, of course, lasers. *This is a must see event delivered on one of the best sound-systems in town! *

**OREN AMBARCHI/JOE TALIA **duo

''The Thing convert nouveau punk and vintage garage-rock into a roaring scream-up, but the sheer energy and love of the music keep gimmickery at bay'' Uncut

''Tapping into rock's most primal forces with the fire and fury that's something to behold'' Mojo

''The sheer power they generate from wood, metal, breath and muscle is stunning'' BBC

First ever Melbourne performance from these Scandinavian free music legends!!!

The high energy trio of Mats Gustafsson, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten, and Paal Nilssen-Love was established in February 2000 during a series of concerts and a recording in Stockholm. When they started out their repertoire consisted of tunes by Don Cherry, hence the group's name. Since then the group's has included other free jazz standards by David Murray, Frank Lowe, James Blood Ulmer and Norman Howard which collide with their unorthodox take on rock classics by PJ Harvey, David Bowie, The Sonics, White Stripes, Lightning Bolt & others.

The group features saxophone titan Mats Gustafsson, one of Europe's biggest names on the free music scene who has worked with a diverse array of artists such as Jim O'Rourke, Derek Bailey, Sonic Youth, Merzbow and Eye from the Boredoms amongst others. Via groups such as Gush, AALY trio and Peter Brötzmanns Chicago Tentet, he has established himself as an extremely powerful saxophonist, and has virtually reinvented the way of playing it.
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love have become known as Norway
s heaviest rhythm-section. Their ongoing collaboration started in 1992 and since then they have been working in several groups including School Days with Ken Vandermark, Scorch trio with Raoul Björkenheim, and the Swedish/Norwegian jazz-group Atomic.

Also appearing is ALAN COURTIS, legendary avant artiste from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Alan was a founding member of the infamous Reynols group who released a slew of albums including conceptual and/or absurd projects such as ''10.000 Chicken Symphony'', ''Blank Tapes'' and ''The Whistling Kettle Quartet''. Alan has released over 100 solo works and has collaborated with artists such as Pauline Oliveros, The Nihilist Spasm Band, Lee Ranaldo, Makoto Kawabata, RLW, Eddie Prevost, KK Null, Mattin, Rick & Alan Bishop, Yoshimi, Daniel Menche, Masonna, Toshimaru Nakamura, Solid Eye, Rudolf Eb.Er, Kouhei, MSBR, Yoshida Tatsuya, Tetuzi Akiyama, Ashtray Navigations, Michael Snow, Uton, Birchville Cat Motel, Dylan Nyoukis, MSBR, The New Blockaders, Jaap Blonk, Jazkamer, C.Spencer Yeh, Okkyung Lee, Aaron Moore, Avarus & Kemialliset Ystavat.

The music of Alan always has a strong experimental sense and is usually based on high-skilled/weird-ass techniques of prepared sound, tape manipulations, processing of field recordings, live electronics, objects, cymbals, synthesizers, computer tools, playing traditional (both acoustic and electric) instruments as well as self-built, strange and unusual instruments (unstringed guitar, for example).

Opening the night will be the ecstatic free-rock guitar/drums duo of Oren Ambarchi & Joe Talia

This show will be the only Melbourne performance of The Thing + Alan Courtis and promises to be a kick-ass evening that is not to be missed!!!

MoHa! (Norway)
Horacio Pollard (UK)
Bum Creek

The Toff
Level 2, Curtin House, 252 Swanston Street, Melbourne

MoHa! is a loud Norwegian duo that play unhinged fiery and dense futuristic music sourced from guitar/synth and drums, which hits you like a breath of fresh fjord air.

Since 2004, they have released a handful of records and singles on labels such as Rune Grammofon. The Wire recently cited MoHa! as an ''extreme hybrid between free improv, gutter electronics and darkwave scuzz'' and they have been proclaimed as simply, ''the future of Norwegian rock''.

MoHa! is A.S.H on guitar/keyboard and M.J.O on drums/SC3 and this is their first Australian appearance.

Also appearing is Horacio Pollard, a Berlin/London based musician working with mind altering obscure noise creations. He started making music in 2000 with his 3 piece band Cau_Cational Betreet who built a small following by playing fucked up music in strange places like motorway bridges, shopping centres, quarries & church roofs etc.

Since then, he has released a bunch of solo records on different labels such as Wrong Music, Adaadat, Twilight Luggage & his own Neigh%Music. He has toured extensively around Europe, South America & the Far East & has collaborated with many artists including Anla Courtis, Anal Garden, Bbblood, Blue Sabbath Black Fiji, DJ Scotch Egg, Moha!, Ove Naxx, Pokemachine, Torturing Nurse & more.

Live shows are loud, destructive and thoroughly entertaining!

Local weirdos Bum Creek round off this killer bill promising a triumphant lurching mess of synth squiggles, kraut percussion and vocal gibberish.
