Yacht Rock: The Power of Smooth Music

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago  or at  2:25PM on Tuesday, July 25 2006.

OK, This shit is fuckin' awesome.

If you're bored today then you're in for a special treat.

What do Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Michael Jackson, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, etc. all have in common?

That's right, they understand the power of smooth music.

Click here for the sordid history and temultuous evolution of Yacht Rock.

Scroll down to the bottom and start with episode one....it is well worth it.

As Oates says:

"FUCK YOU, LOGGINS!!! Hall and I will not stand idly by while you California vagina sailors stab the American airwaves in the balls with your shit music!"

get your dick out of your heart!

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah, I had to watch the first five last night.....no time at work.

"He's trapped in a prison of smooth grooves".

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

tsk, tsk LP

I think the key to a good thread is to pose a question or a topic that is accessible to as many people on the board as possible.

You know, to promote a broader discussion.

Clearly, you've painted yourself into a corner with this one.

Don't be discouraged, you'll do better next time.

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

There is no discussion to be had.

I do not expect it to be a lengthy thread, full of whimsical discussion (this comment excluded).

I posted it so other people could enjoy the humour, Bruce.

It's a pity you are not able to see this.....I feel sorry for you.

M&N is not a popularity contest for everyone, you know.

Bruce  said about 2 years ago:

i feel your pity

tangy_zizzle  said about 2 years ago:

I will watch this. Can't view it at work for some reason.

froginasock  said about 2 years ago:

also check out House of Cosbys. Comedy Gold.

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

They were taken to court over House Of Cosbys.

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

Episode 5 is pretty funny.

They call on the spirit of Koko to stop Michael Jackson turning away from smooth music.

"Hard Rock has got me and Eddie (Van Halen) drillin’ more cooch than Black and Decker!"

the power of 666  said about 2 years ago:

will watch 1 now

the power of 666  said about 2 years ago:

oh shit, i've sen this ages ago!

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

Oh man.....I'm behind the times.

MickeyPratt  said about 2 years ago:

I have it on fairly good authority that these guys have been offered a DVD release for the series.

unvisible  said about 2 years ago:

The irony is that yacht rockers were much more abrasive, raucous and rockin' than most of today's indie rockers....

LockingPlier  said about 2 years ago:

Vincent Price: "Smooth music will only survive if McDonald and Loggins can be persuaded to make amends!"

It's mellow, but not smooth. Kind of shitty.

hillsonghoods  said about 11 months ago:

Burt: I also enjoyed the ''hi, you've just caught me chopping up a hobo'' one.

Hollywood Steve actually did write reviews for allmusicguide (though he's not Steven Thomas Erlewine - he's actually Steve Huey).

Goal attack  said about 11 months ago:

Has a few piss funny bits but more shitty bits than usual. Not a classic.

MickeyPratt  said about 11 months ago:

I want a ME.L.T!

hillsonghoods  said about 11 months ago:

I do think they've worn out the Loggins doing movie themes against his will plot line. They haven't worn out the great lines. Loved the literalism of ''cut. foot. loose.''

frenk  said about 11 months ago:

Rad! Straight to Pod when I get home :)

MickeyPratt  said about 11 months ago:

that line was so lame hillsong!

but yeah didn't they use that riff from danger zone in an earlier ep. already....

the power of 666  said about 11 months ago:

Yeah, seemed a bit too self aware, but if they keep going they'll find their stride.

Jason Lee is in it, which is nice.

bxckxtrxdxr  said about 11 months ago:

i liked half of it. particularly bacon and balboa, james ingram (what a fucking legend that sweet dude is), and macdonald and loggins were back to form.

disapointing that the sots were way longer and not as many musical references as a good episode, resulting in the episode seeming to get bogged down/lag quite a lot.

thenewmeatloaf  said about 9 months ago:

Michael McDonald's on Leno right now....
