females in bands

kabukiboy  said about 2 years ago  or at  2:42PM on Monday, July 9 2007.

why aren't there many females in bands in the most scenes? *
why is it mostly a white male pastime?
would you like to see more females in bands or even just attending shows?

looch  said about 2 years ago:

frenk  said about 2 years ago:

i'm actually listening to Beast at the mo, and def think there should be more Adalitas in music. one for each who shall desire it be so.

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

i met too many girls that just don't care about music. they just like the pussycat dolls for the dance moves.

RoastOxCrisps  said about 2 years ago:

MattuS  said about 2 years ago:

dunno why not, but i wish there were more Sleater-Kinneys around.

The real issues is... If females were in bands, there wouldn't be enough groupies...

There should be more Adidas in music.

A lot of girls I know that are into music that aren't in bands simply don't believe they'd be any good at it. Men should realise that they're shit, but don't. Women is smerter.

Find me a girl that can Play keys, takes drugs from time to time, looks good, and can sing, and I'll take her under me wing.

hwct  said about 2 years ago:

theres loads of bands in melbs with girls in em.

tinyman  said about 2 years ago:

don't give up just because you're shit.

froginasock  said about 2 years ago:

Danger: painting in broad strokes ahead.

A random sample (my workplace, but it could be any workplace) seems to show that males will generally be more into bands, and finding new music. Wheras females tend to listen to the latest ''clubbers guide'' or ''ministry of sound'' and occasional pop stuff.

And so that would flow in to the sorts of people who want to form/be in bands.

kabukiboy  said about 2 years ago:

JP - why does she have to look good?

the power of 666  said about 2 years ago:

JunkiePhil  said about 2 years ago:

So people will look at her, instead of me.

Drums/Vocals/Guitar/Bass lessons, run for women, by women!

Workshop from 5pm on Patriarchy in the Punk Scene and the experience of being a female musician in a male dominated arena.

A safe space perfect for beginner or intermediate musicians, a good place to network and form bands, and a great way to get the courage to get on stage and support female artists!

This will be a monthly workshop over the course of the year to encourage women to learn instruments, get on stage, talk about women-related issues and even out the female to male ratio within music scenes.

Vegan dinner provided, so fuckin come.

I honestly couldn't care less if the people I see are male or female. and if I look at the local acts I like at the moment the gender of them is actually pretty equal.

kabukiboy  said about 2 years ago:

great :-)

racey  said about 2 years ago:

well, i'm not gonna go, so it's the only way i'm gonna judge it.

i'm sure plenty of other female people might dig it though.

I think the fact this has generated so much debate is achievement enough in itself.
