Rolling Stone vs Mess+Noise

Was told by a tall cardigan'd friend to pick up a copy of the latest Rolling Stone magazine, so as usual I obliged said cardigan man. Turns out there's a nice little piece about the Operator Please kids with a nice mention of a ye olde' Mess+Noise, specifically Issue 6.

"I entered shitloads of Youth Week competitions and I entered any online competitions," she [Amanda Wilkinson] recalls. "The Mess and Noise [website and magazine] competition was to submit a couple of tracks and to win a place on (the magazine's) compilation CD, with a full page bio and interview. We entered that and were lucky enough to actually get in there. From then on [Sydney community radio] FBI picked up that CD and started playing 'Just a Song About Ping Pong'. It was a big deal for us because there weren't any all-ages venues, so we had to kind of piss people off in order to get a show at an over-eighteen place." - Rolling Stone issue 669 (Sept 2007)

They then start talking about themselves more than us, so the interview gets kinda boring. If they're thinking of sending chocolates or embroided beanie babies when they're rich and adulty, they should all be directed to our favourite crew cut, Andrew Ramadge. Was his choice.

update: Another piece over at News.com.au. "Danny's favourite". Hoorah !!!

When will I, Will I ...

When will I, Will I ...

So, we're in the paper yet again (yawn). And by we I mean me. Spotted in Australia's premier current affairs / real estate guide / advertising keen / classified / city living / "community" newspaper 'City Weekly.

Thanks for having us. Here's what we had to say about us. And it's always a privilege to appear below Chris from Polyester fame, a very comfortable place to be placed.

The website and print guy
Danny Bos - Mess+Noise

Danny Bos likes natural progression and natural selection - and how they link to his media projects, like Mess+Noise magazine. "Everything we've ever done with Mess+Noise has been quite organic, we've never gone out and done any marketing campaigns for the website or the magazine, preferring it to be stumbled upon whether you're looking or not." From 1996 to 2004 Bos ran www.mono.net - a review and discussion site largely devoted to Melbourne bands. "Initially, we searched the internet for info about local bands and found practically nothing. In the beginning all we did was go and listen and talk to bands, which we were doing anyway. By the time we closed shop we had something like 10,000 registered artists and 100,000 users." In mono's final months, city-based Bos began dreaming of "working on something I could set fire to if the mood took me". So he started the bound, 72-page Mess+Noise magazine and has released 13 issues since. "We have the best writers and photographers in Australia working with us and we give them a lot of freedom as far as pieces and length of articles go. There's nothing better than an eight-page article on a band you've never heard of." Mess+Noise magazine can be subscribed to online at www.messandnoise.com. A list of stockists can also be found on the website.

M+N in ThreeThousand

Old news I know, but for those that missed it, Mess+Noise were invited to guest edit Issue 108 of ThreeThousand. It was a pleasure and we'd do it again if the drinks were as cold and fizzy. Thanks for having us ...

Version 4 Lives ...

Posted Tuesday, June 19 2007 by Danny Bos under Problems with 5 Comments.

We went live with version 4 of Mess+Noise at 12pm today, after a bunch (underline bunch) of initial "hiccups" we're finally up and running. Thanks for all the helpful comments and problems some of you are experiencing. It makes the transition a lot easier.

Mess+Noise Version 4. Finally!!!

Posted Sunday, June 17 2007 by Danny Bos under New Features, Problems with 6 Comments.

Well, we think we've finally ironed out as many of the homemade bugs that we created for ourselves over the last 6 months as we could. Albeit I'm sure you'll find a whole new nest, if so feel free to let us know right here.

Take a look around and see what's new. We've still got many new features planned, yes, think events and such. The first point of call for this release was bugs.

The Discussions page has been updated and simplified, believe me you'll get used to it if you're not a fan. It makes things much nicer ... We've also ditched the adventures for good reason.

Take a look around and as always let us know what you think.
