Readers Poll 2011: The Shame Cauldron Decides Pt 2
Yesterday, we revealed your picks for Biggest Controversy, Best Comeback, Best New-Ish Act, Best Live Act, Best Reissue/Retrospective and Best “Indie” Label. Today, it’s your Top 50 albums of the year.

1. Royal Headache
Royal Headache
(R.I.P Society)
Some may call this voting with your feet. For others it’s redemption. Either way, few moderately negative reviews have received as much conjecture as our take on Royal Headache’s self-titled debut, which our reviewer described as a “movement with a message, and a rather mundane one at that”. On the basis of this poll, the backlash was unanimous: in a vintage year for local music, Royal Headache comfortably topped the Best Album category ahead of stellar releases by Twerps, Adalita, Total Control, HTRK and Harmony. (They also placed second behind poll-masters Wagons in the Best Live act category, while they no doubt played a huge role in helping their Sydney-based label R.I.P Society take out our inaugural Best ‘Indie’ Label of 2011).
Recorded and mixed by a garage-rock dream-team of Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control) and Owen Penglis (Straight Arrows), Royal Headache is sincere, love-struck garage-soul at its best. It features ‘Girls’ and ‘Surprise’ from last year’s debut 7”, and ‘Really In Love’, a Cee Lo Green/Buzzcocks hybrid, which came in at number nine in our top 20 Tracks of the Year. – Darren Levin

hahahaha you losers actually like gotye and wagons.
don't blame me, i voted for kodos
it's the Boy & Bear placement I'm finding more troubling
i can't believe i post here
might as well get my whinge out of the way early
where is the sand pebbles album you cloth eared nits
Pretty fair list really...it's only really Wagons, Gotye, The Jezabels and Boy & Bear that are questionable, but more than just chats vote in these things.

ARGH- un freking believeable!
I'm so upset I can't even spell.
All those complaining have to remember its not linked to forum registration or posting, it was a open internet poll, and some of those bands which seem to stand out do have large fanbases which may have been convinced to vote.
Be nice to know how many responses there were (total)
To even the predictable upcoming outrage:
What a remarkably accurate detailed list. Perfection. Well done everybody. This reflects 2011 precisely.
I'd wager Chats are a fairly small percentage of people who visit the site
What nony and dexter said. Think outside your chat bubble, folks.
Also, the Royal Headache album is a corker. Good votin'.
Vasco Era. The Grates.
I like that.
What of the days when chats voted for their favourite albums by PM? The international album poll. Did I imagine that?
only 3 out of the 50 not reviewed, nice work team m+n
something something comment about kimbra something something.
Only #13???
That both gits me daaaaiiiirr-aaiiir-aaaiiirrrrn AND gits on mah roof.
Gotye is a piece of unmitigated shit
Surprised Snowman are so low. Average record, or released so early in the year that people forgot about it?
it is nice to see YIS so high, and that it and other records from so early in the year (eg slug guts) weren't forgotten
RH is a legitimately good record, and unquestionably better than everything else in that particular list imo

Number one and two are spot on
x2
Relevant: Vice's Top 50 albums of the year
if there was a end of year list of lists, niteshok's link there would probably win.
crazy shit
i've heard of 5 bands on that list but only heard 2 of them, and that's counting the bonds ad.
making me sweat yeah
The Vasco Era are fucking great. Nice guys who put on a fun-as-fuck rock show, AND Sid looks like a blues-rat Judd Nelson. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. I ASK YOU.
Copy and paste?
Tugboat, I started a new thread for you but the formatting kinda fucked up. http://messandnoise.com/discussions/4394436
congrats to Al, in #'s 4, 6 and 8
Al is the best
does this make Al officially the most popular figure in australian music?
Can I please request untold/animals TL:DR on this list and also trial by .gif because I have a very short attention span pls.
Thx in advance.
A reasonably pleasing result. I'm surprised Adalita didn't score higher. I voted for a bunch of these: Royal Headache, HTRK, Harmony, Witch Hats.... this is a way less pussy list than I expected.
BTW - I made the list. KISS MY ASS MIKE NOGA!!!!!
Are you Henry Wagons, BBS?
Maybe while Noga does that, you can kiss my ass for top 20ing this shit and we can get a Human Centipede type thing going.
Congrats all round! I'm stoked.
I just voted for my friends bands. My favourite Austrlian album this year was actually the Short Stack Remix one.
Blink...
And you'll miss a revolution.
Fuck me.

It's still early days, so have your say. Yeah, it's pretty canberra centric at the moment (was made in Canberra). If you register, you get a personalised top 50 based on you and your friends votes rather than by music industry types or random people on the net you could care less about.
thanks for the link, but do you have to spam every thread carpetsquare?
one link can stay.
